Full day or half day what do you think?

My son is just finishing kindergarten, our school district up till now has only offered a half day kindergarten program, they're currently trying to pass the budget in town and one thing that is in the budget is funding for a full day of kindergarten. I'm kind of on the fence about the full day, they cover the same material that any other school in the state covers except its 1/2 the time.

Honestly I think my son would of been so bored in school all day. He of course went in knowing everything except how to read, so that has been his only challenge this year. Time will tell for my daughter if I had to go by how she is now she'll benefit from the full day but she has 3 years before she starts so a lot could change!

As a parent how do you feel full day, half day, parents choice? I know a lot of working parents prefer the full day because of the challenges they face finding daycare for the half day but I'd like to leave that factor out of it.

My daughter will be doing a full day where we are. It's the only thing offered. But for her I am not to worried because she dose a half day of pre k now and then finishes the day at daycare from noon to three. I know it's a lot for her but I am a single working mother. She is tired when she gets home but for the most part she enjoys a full day of activity. With kindergarten and my work schudule she won't have to attend daycare anymore, I am most excited about that!

I enrolled Jacob in preschool last year, towards the end of the year. He went half day from April all the way through the summer. I was glad for the small 3 hour break (for both of us). He got socialization and education and I got a little Mommy time. Then, when pre-K started in the fall, he began full days. The bus picks him up at 8:10 and drops him off at 3:40. It took him about 2 or 3 weeks to get used to the longer days, and he was a little tired in the begining (taking naps after school, even though he stopped napping when he was 2). After he got used to it though, I definitely feel like it's done him so much good! My only issue now is that when he first started full days, I was working. I lost my job in February though, so now I have this huge gap at home all day by myself with nothing to do but clean and wait for him to come home lol

My doughter will be five next year but hear in BC we have full days we no longer have the choice. I could be rong. I am still doing my reserch on this. I think it will be ok though. She is aready talking a bout school and we play school at home. We have decited to put her in preschool. We think it is good. I think it depends on the mental stat of the child if they are ready and can handle it.
