Am I crazy?

Okay so a frequent discussion in my house is how clean it should be to have people over. I was raised in a house where you cleaned your house before people came over. It was the respectful and appropriate thing to do. My husband is of the "nobody will care" club. I hate it. He invites people over and doesn't clean. He doesn't tell me that he's having people over so I have no time to clean. He says I'm old fashioned. What about any of you? Clean or not to clean?

I always tidy before poeple come over - especially the MIL. My husband never used to care, but about 5 years ago his mum was coming over and he was running around doing dishes and picking up his shoes etc before she came. All I said was, see - you can be trained I didn't even have to ask!!

Clean. You always clean before people come over, at least that's what i was taught. It's the respectful thing to do. I'm sure someone would actually be embarrassed walking into someone's filthy house. I know i would be, and it's happened to me before. I can understand toys and clutter and such. We do have kids after all. But I've walked into FILTHY houses. So I say clean.

My house is always pretty clean--I'm a sahm to one school aged kid, so I don't really have an excuse for it to be too messy. That, and too much clutter really messes with my ADD. So, I don't usually worry about it when people come. There may be dust under the sofa, and if they catch me on a Tuesday the polishing won't be done, but I don't care. Sometimes it's nice to walk into someone else's house and think "Good, I'm not the only one struggling to keep up with this stuff."

Oh, and I do always clean the bathrooms before people come. Not sure why, I'm obsessive about that--they gat cleaned every other day and anytime someone comes over.

I am glad to not be completely crazy. According to my husband I'm the only person he knows that cares enough to do it.

I tidy up before people come. I don't want them to see the trashedness of blocks everywhere and dishes all over the bench.

I also had this attitude growing up, although my sister doesn't. Now it depends who is coming over and for what. I like to have the place tidy before my in-laws come over, but I have a feeling that even if I hired a maid, the house wouldn't be clean enough for my FIL. Oh, don't even get me started on him!

I like my house clean when people come over period. If I know they are coming I really clean but in general I like everything to be clean. Yes toys get all over and dishes can not be done straight away but I try to do all the house three times a week not matter who is coming over

I'm a neat freak normally, but I get a little obsessive if we're having guests I know are coming. A lot of people do drop in on us unannounced, which is why I like things to stay tidy, but if we're hosting a dinner or something, I get a tad obsessive.

I clean. And I freak out about cleaning when my hubby tells me 5 minutes before they get here that someone is coming over XD.
I don't obsessively clean, but toys get picked up, dishes get put in the dishwasher (where no one can see) and the floor gets vacuumed and swept.
We never really have company over to visit for long, mostly just drop in for a few minutes, that sort of thing. So it's not as big of a deal :P

I agree with you Michelle. The only time we do spring cleaning is when we invite people over. Like for the holidays. I am lazy so generally I dont invite people over. And the ones that do manage to get threw my front door understand me and forgive my mess.

I grew up with the clean before they come attitude. My husband didn't care, but he loved me so he played along.

It's the oly time the place gets a real good cleaning. It gets cleaned at other times, I'm talking about the obsesive someone-may-find-a-dustball type cleaning that I only do when company is coming over. I really need to invite people over more often so it gets that good of a cleaning.
