Are you going to have your children do extra curricular activities such as sport, music, dance, chess or foreign languages. Just wondering. We do football so far. We were trying drums. What was I thinking. No more drums. ha ha

I did piano lessons as a kid. I hated it with a passion even though I begged my parents to let me do it. Piano is great though, I did violin at the same time and it confused the hell out of me.

Anyone have their kid in music lessons outside of school? Our school has music, but it is not centered, it is more just an exposure to music and different aspects of it, along with some music theory, but my husband would like J to learn an instrument with some more in depth theory.

We are thinking either Piano or Guitar.

My daughter is doing cheerleading right now. She has done soccer for a couple of years, because of cheering for football, she will miss out on the fall season, but will probably do spring. She did gymnastics last summer and wants to do it again. She also wants to do softball, but since it starts before soccer is over, we haven't let her do that yet. She is also wanting to try out basketball this winter. She cheered last year for basketball, but now she wants to try playing. We are all for letting her try out whatever she wants and in a couple of years, she'll have to pick what she wants to do and what she wants to let go.

My daughter currently does Swimming Lessons and will be doing Martial Arts, Cheerleading, and/or Gymnastics/Dance once she gets to a certain age she can help make the decisions in which extra curricular activities she would like to participate in.

My son only does rugby. But they have training 2 nights a week and then the game every Sunday, so it's quite a commitment. That, together with his 14 year old social life which often includes me driving him to a friend's place, or him off to the movies or the basketball courts, or any number of other things, I think that's quite enough.

My daughter is in swimming lessons one night a week. She is a bit of a free spirit. I have asked if she wants to play netball, do gymnastics, ballet or dance, athletics, but she simply isn't interested. She has indicated just recently she'd like to play soccer (I think some of you guys call it football.....), but it is too late to enrol her this season, so I will bring it up next enrolment period. Otherwise, she is actually happy spending time playing hopscotch or jump rope in the back yard , or playing whatever ball game her brothers end up playing when they are home.......

Oh, she does want guitar lessons, but they don't start them until year 3 at the school, and outside the school they are way to expensive. So another 2 years for those. We have the guitar though!!

Both my kids will do some form of martial art from age 6 that's not really negotiable, apart from that they can take up anything that interests them as a second activity

I'm waiting until my little guy is 5 before we try anything again (we tried Little Kickers for him and it did not go well). He seems really interested in music - loves guitars, piano and drums - so I think that's the route we'll take.

We'll be doing baseball in the Fall and Spring. Im lucky that my sons school has drama, dance and music as part of their curriculum. He also gets to pick a micro for the year, last year was steel drums. Cant wait to see what he picks this year.

J does Taekwondo year round, Base Ball in the Spring only, and swimming in the summer.
It sounds like a lot, but I try not to have him in any more than 2 things at once, and I don't put him in anything other than Taekwondo in the fall so that he can adjust to the school year.

John wants to put him in a music lesson, but I'm not sure where to fit it in--seems like it would need to be a year round thing or he would fall out of practice. We'll see.

He is an only child, so he needed the social interaction before school started, but I don't want him over scheduled either. He also wants to do Civil Air Patrol, but you have to be 8 for that, so I've got time...

Nah. If they want to they can.
