Just curious what fun activities you lovely Bitchin' Ladies do with your kids for the month of October?

I love October! The trees changing colours, leaf piles, crisp Autumn air, scary movies with hubby, getting dark earlier (feels so cozy), harvest moons, Thank's Giving (here in Canada), Hallowe'een at end of the month.

This year my kids are a bit older and able to do more Autumn activities. I'm really excited to have a Fall/Hallowe'en filled month.

One day, Ben and I harvested seeds from our garden for next year. Ben had a blast figuring out how to get seeds out of different plants and flowers and we sorted them into cups.

We just bought a bunch of Hallowe'en stuff. The kids got glow in the dark bats to stick to their walls above their beds. We got them Hallowe'en place mats. These little capsules you put in water that turn into foam Hallowe'en characters. And ended the night with the movie, The Hallowe'en Buddies. The kids had a blast.

Then we did apple picking the following day and bought the kids their pumpkins. My hubby makes mean pumpkin seeds with brown sugar, cinnimon and spice.

I'm trying to find an album with contact sheets! Can't find them anywhere. I want to use one to collect and press leaves and flowers with the kids.

Also planning on attempting my first Candy Apples this year! And/or making sugar cookies the kids can decorate. Just have to get some Hallowe'en/Fall cookie cutters.

So we're planning on watching lots of Hallowe'en movies this month. We have Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin (is that what it's called?). But anyone have any other suggestions for Hallowe'en movies?

@Jayce, I will for sure... My MIL said she seen them somewhere but doesn't recall where. She *thinks* the dollar store but.... errrm I'm not sure about that one.

The only type of albums they have in our grocery store's photo shop are the kind with plastic folders.

I use to have tons of those contact sheet albums when I was a kid for my sticker collections. :/

Awww. We don't even get kids on our street. It's a busy road. We had 2 trick'er treat'ers last year. We had to take the kids over 2 blocks to this newer subdivision.

We still decorate but it's more for our kids. Cheap decorations from the dollar store! Last year we just got that spider web stuff, tinsel with ghosts and had our pumpkins.

We also take our corn down from our gardens in fall, tie it up and put it on our front porch. This year were going to use our dried out sunflowers in the arrangement. But nothing too fancy here either. We also grew our own pumpkins last year. Although, I told my hubby he wasn't allowed to grow them this year because they took over the entire yard!

Total cost of decorations = $5

Yup and we *usually* wait until right up until the end to buy costumes. But it's because they all go on sale then!

Oh Jenni that sounds like a fairy tale. I love all the things you mentioned. You really know what you are doing. These are going to be great memories for you kids. . . FOREVER!

Us not so much. Costumes are usually too big because they were all that were left over. Because we always put it off to the last minute. We dont decorate much because we always go to this outrages party on the island. The houses are smaller and on the water but you get lots more candy and dont have to walk far. Can we say Lazy. Hey I can. We all take turns passing out the candy and take turns walking the kids. All the while eating and drinking everything. It is a complete Blast!!! We do it every year and bring the neighbor kids with us. There are really no trick or treaters in our neighbor hood. Its a more mature neighborhood. Not many kids just a few.

Raking piles of leaves and jumping in them
Make a maze using leaves
Leaf rubbings
Apple picking (made my first apple jelly this year)

If you have any luck finding an album with contact sheets please let me know. I want one to store my guy's art work in.

I thought I'd decore the apples for candy apples. Then fill the middle with melted chocolate chips to hold the stick. An ingenius plan by me to get my kids to eat the entire apple. muhahahah *evil genius* ;)
