I was the only girl and my daughter is the only granddaughter on my side. My SS is the only grandson on my husband's side. It's all kind of funny because my brother has two boys and my husband's sister has two girls. And we have one of each.

Lol. I thought for sure my first was gonna be a boy. I am the only girl in my family and my hubby has no sisters. Its all boys all around. Then we found out it was a girl. Then with my 2nd my pregnancy was SOOOOO different from my first that i thought for sure she was a boy. but i knew the 2nd i saw the u/s that she was definitely not a boy.

You know, I was sure I was going to have a boy. I didn't know what to do with a little girl and surely God wouldn't do that to me. He did. But I love it, girls are emotional and have drama, but you get to do so much that you just don't with boys. I think everyone should have one of each. Lol

yea. Just have a party for whoever in late afternoon/early evening then after that everyone but the ones chosen to stay the night would go home without any idea of the sleep over. Then she gets her sleep over without mom losing her mind!! lol

I have debated that part too. Have a party, then all the parents and kids that can't stay go home and then the sleepover starts? I do have 6 weeks to decide. She's in cheer and girl scouts now too, so maybe some of those girls can come over. I just know I'm not cut out for 10 girls staying up giggling all night. I'll be calling parents at 5 in the morning saying they're ready to go home. LOL

I'm glad her cousins came, at least she wasn't the only little kid. I took K and her bff to the park one day this summer and there was a girl they knew from school having a birthday party there. There weren't very many kids, so they invited us over. I felt bad about crashing, but they didn't mind. My daughter doesn't like to go to parties empty-handed, so there have been a couple times that she would take one of her old toys and give it to the birthday kid. Or, it will take her forever to pick out what to get them.

My niece's feelings were really hurt and she cried for awhile, but she did cheer right up when we got the party started and all her cousins came. She isn't friends with those kids anymore

I've thought about that. She's been planning this for about 6 months or so. She had 7 girls she wanted to invite, and I'm pretty certain not all of them will be able to come. Since then, she has started school and made some new friends. I will limit the guest list though. I'm thinking, movie, pizza, popcorn, ice cream cake, and maybe make-up/dress-up.

Julie - posted on 09/22/2011

That's the bad thing about this age, you can't hurt anyone's feelings and not invite them, then no one RSVP's so you don't know if you're going to have 20 kids there or 2. That's why I don't invite everyone. If I know their mom, I'll invite them personally. My neices haven't been the last two or three years for my daughter's birthday. Her feelings were hurt so she asked to not go to their birthday last year. We didn't make her. :/

Cara - posted on 09/22/2011

yea, probably not quite as much. lol That would be a cool way to celebrate. When i was a kid i had a slumber arty for my bday. My parents let me invite 4 friends to stay so i just picked my closest friends to stay with me.

My daughter's bff had a bday part last year, and only my daughter and one little boy showed up. That's how my daughter became such good friends with her. So this year, they didn't invite everyone. We have a Safari place close by, so they invited my daughter and we all went their for her birthday. It was very cool and cheaper than the zoo. They even got to hold a baby kangaroo. I just don't think the kangaroo enjoyed it as much as they did.

Oh...and she won't eat cake. Last year, I took cupcakes to school for her to share with her class on her birthday. That night, she got the stomach virus that was going around. Apparently, throwing up cupcakes makes you anti-cake. She wants an ice-cream cake instead, so that part is easy.
