Elizabeth: When Isobel was sick last week they said the way to see if they're dehydrated is to feel the inside of their mouth. If it's wet they are fine, if it's a bit dry then get some fluids into them.

Shortly after I last posted last night, Donovan started with grumbling guts and horrible dry heaves about every 15 minutes.

It will depend on weather and money mainly and if I can stand to be away from my little one that long.

Now that I think about it, do what Shannin said. Get your finger in his mouth, no matter if you wake him or not. If it's not dry and he stays asleep, let him sleep. If it's dry or it wakes him up, try to give him fluids.

I guess I'm shutting down for the night. I'm going to be busy forcing liquids.

Good news is that as I was bringing him downstairs, I felt his diaper get warm. It wasn't a lot, but he did pee. Unfortunatly, every time he gets a little fluid, his guts really grumble.

Good luck Elizabeth. Hope he gets better soon. It's horrible when the little ones are sick.

Well, I'm off to wake the little guy. If I can't get him to have a wet diaper in the next 4 hours, it's back to the ER. Wish me luck.

When we went to the ER, we had to wait in the waiting room there were so many people there. I counted 13 groups waiting for a room and more came in as we were being sent to a room. Mom wondered if it was full moon. Sure enough it was, a nurse confirmed it.

Carolee how did you know to let beth in BL. Just wondering. Glad you were on top of things. I have been a little lacks lately. I got a pm after I saw her in the group already. Just being nosy. And you can let people in. But please let me know who they are so I can welcome them. I am trying to do that again.

In the past 24 hours he has only had 2 barely damp diapers. I have been forcing liquid with a medicine dropper.

I forgot that the Cleveland Clinic has a nurse on call after hours. I'm on hold now.

I know exactly what you're going through. I went through it last week with Isobel. She didn't eat for 48 hours and wasn't wanting anything to drink the 2nd day. We had to hold her down to get the syringed fluids into her otherwise they were going to put her on a drip.

Crap. It was a lot easier to moniter him when he was awake. I had his behavior to help me gauge how he was doing.

How strong are you feeling right now Beth. Are you up for a battle just in case it becomes one.

Also keep count of his wet nappies (diapers). If he doesn't have a wet one in a 12 hour period that's a sign that he's a bit dehydrated as well.

If you have any syringes you can get small amounts of fluid into him easier than him refusing a bottle/cup.

We had to get 10mls every 10 mins into Isobel. They said small amounts often are better than large amounts less frequently.

He hasn't puked since this morning so it's not that. Although it could be from the sugars from the Gatoraid. He has only had 8 oz of fluid in the last 27 hours.

If your going to wake him up anyways go ahead and stick your finger in his mouth to see what it feels like for future reference.

That could be a sign of dry mouth, or it could be leftover stench from him puking. Maybe give it another hour?

I couldn't get my finger in his mouth, he kept moving. His breath really stunk. That's a sign of dry mouth isn't it.

I'd do what Michelle said. Check his mouth. I'd let him sleep a bit longer (as long as it's not dry).

Did you try the finger in the mouth test. That sounds like a really good idea. I would try that Beth. Makes sense to me.

She's been grumpy today :-)

I'm also biding my time because he is taking them to South Africa for a 3 week holiday so I'm not doing anything till they get back.

OK, going to change her bum.

I feel like a glutton. I ate an entire bag of Boy Scout Caramel Popcorn today. It's the only kind of caramel popcorn that I like that doesn't have nuts/peanuts in it. I can only get it once a year, so when I get it, I gorge myself.

He's been asleep almost 3 hours now. He only had a 2 1/2 hour nap at home, and a catnap at the ER.

I'll be back in a minute. There's an awful stench coming from Isobel's direction!!!!!!!!!

If I'm not back in 5 mins please send some hunky paramedics to revive me :-)

He's not showing any signs of dehydration, right? And you did get at least 4oz. of fluid in him a little bit ago?

I just thought of Niki. LOL I farted by accident of course. While lifting tyler. I will forever think of Niki anytime someone farts. Katherine when someone has the runs. Beth when I pee myself sneezing. And you Carolee when tarah screams. Only because we skyped when Lynn was has a little fit and we tried to get her and tarah together.

He stopped fussing but I went to check on him anyway. He feels like he still has a fever but not as high.

I need your advice. Do I let him sleep longer, or wake him and try to get more fluid in him. I'm torn since he didn't sleep much last night and he needs sleep to get well, but I don't want him to get dehydrated.
