I'm what you might call a "social smoker". I don't smoke on my own, but when with friends who do smoke, I may have one or two. It evens out to no more than four a month for me. My beau used to smoke - recently quit, in fact - but when he did it was always outside so it wouldn't be around our little one.

It's definitely hard to quit! Especially when you use it as a stress crutch. I have tried many times. Used the patch (just took it off) Wellbutrin, the inhaler etc.....nothing worked for me :(

No. Never even a puff! Probably because my parents smoked and I remember the smell, the staining on the ceiling, the constant interruptions smoking brought to anything we were doing. Now I am even more aware of the dangers smoking as my husband and I care for his mother who is a life-long smoker with diabetes that has led to mini strokes which brought on vascular dementia. She STILL smokes and is at risk for a big stroke that could change her life forever. It is sad, frustrating and inevitable as long as she keeps smoking which constrict the blood vessels to her brain. Smoking doesn't just affect the smokers, it also affects their loved ones. I adore my mother in law and she is very diligent about not smoking in her home or around my children. I only wish I could help her help herself. (she said those smokeless cigs would kill her) ha :)

Non smoker. Both of us are. But we have an ash tray for smoker guests who always walk around the back of the house to smoke.

I dont. I used to, avidly. I love it. I adored it.

The taste, smell, action, all of it. I purely enjoyed it as a hobby and hated quitting.

That being said, I now have more money to spoil my two babies with. I feel healthier, and am actually training for a marathon now. I tried to years ago, and my lung capacity was just sub par.

I crave it every day, I miss it. I just think...my kids would miss me more if I was gone. Having a few family members die of lung cancer and one of throat cancer, I really dont want to risk it.

And of course, we always smoked outside only.

I smoke..... and I've tried quitting but I know I'll have to do it in tandem with my fiance. If he doesn't quit, I know I won't. I"ll come up with a million excuses "Well he isn't quitting" kinda stuff. Totally lame, but they seem so logical when I'm craving a cigarette.

I tried really REALLY hard to quit with both my kids, when I was pregnant with my daughter I had cut down to 3-5 a day, ultralights (I know they say there isn't a difference between them but smokers know there is, they poke holes in the filters, etc) But my daughter's dad started being a...well not nice and i got stressed, so I went back to lights, bout half a pack a day. My daughter was hours shy of being premature, but she came out healthy.

With my son I was surrounded by smokers ALL the time. No one took my pregnancy into consideration, so all the secondhand smoke thwarted any chance I had of quitting.

This time is the same, and we do smoke in the house, but when the weather warms up it will all be moved outside at our spring cleaning. THe walls will be scrubbed, the ashtrays will be put away, the whole nine yards.

I think once we get to that point it will be easier for us to quit together.

I do, well sorta...If others smoke, I smoke, if others don't I don't.

In other words, I buy a pack, but don't completely jones out if I can't smoke. I tend to smoke if I drink, and if I'm stressed...Unless of course, I'm in the parking lot at the children's hospital, I feel way too guilty about that...LOL

Don't smoke around the kids as much as possible, but they're older now, so don't have to police it as much, since they know I don't like it around them.

But, my grandmother bought us a superb air cleaner when my oldest was born. It ionizes and cleans the air even better than an ionic breeze does. I LOVE the smell when I come in the house, all fresh and rainstormy like. So, even if hubby can't contain it indoors, the cleaner helps tremendously. We weren't actually sure about that until this last couple of weeks. My MIL smokes too, outdoors, and when she comes here, we smoke indoors, in our smoking room. She started getting really sick, allergy type sick. So, we fired up the air cleaner, and put away the smokes. As soon as the air got cleaned in the house, she started clearing up, and could breathe. We kept it running, and she hasn't had a problem since.

So, even though it's not the best habit, I've done my level best to mitigate the damages. And, my house smells nice...LOL

I don't but hubby does. He smokes ouside - no matter the weather- and doesn't smoke in the car, even if he's alone.

I smoke too since I was 17, but I smoke outside in the backyard. I don't smoke in the car and not around my kids either. I did quit smoking when I got pregnant each time, but I start up again. I keep trying to quit but it hasn't been successful at all.

Stopped smoking when I fell pregnant with my 4 year old daughter, breastfed her for 18 months, and after that started smoking again, same when I was pregnant with my 15 mnth old son, he had colic, and chose the bottle at 3 months, started smoking again!!! I smoke in the garage, not in my car, though. Don't smoke at play-dates, school functions, only when hubby and I go out. He does'nt smoke, hates it that I smoke. So he is breathing down my neck every day, to quit. i want to do it on my own, not him telling me to quit. Aaarrrgggghhh.

I don't smoke. Both my parents are chimneys and I smoked as a youngster (to be "cool") but never became addicted, thankfully. my MIL died with COPD and recently my mom had to be put on oxygen because of her smoking. i know you've heard it all before, but smoking is bad. stop it!

Outside, we also dont smoke in the car. We had a hard time in dominic republic trip because everyone was smoking in the resturants, and we were totally grossed out.

BTW- kudos to everyone who doesn't smoke in their homes or in front of their kids. I know that's not always an easy thing to do.

I'm a non smoking asthmatic. My husband smoked when I met him, but he quit a few months after we got married and I love him for doing it. He hasn't smoked in 5 years now.

He smokes in the car, although not with the kids in the car. If he's outside with the kids he'll smoke although he tryies to keep it away from them, he's got other habits he's trying to quit so I try not to push it. I only quit when I was pregnant and just really don't have the money to spend so I haven't taken it back up although I still have cravings when my stress levels go through the roof.

My husband was a smoker when I met him. He hated seeing me have asthma attacks so much that he quit cold turkey two months before the wedding. It was tough but he did it for love.

Jane, I WISH I was allergic to it. Such a nasty habit. I just can't bring myself to quit.

Sorry, I do not smoke. In fact, I am allergic to cigarette smoke. It causes me to have asthma attacks. Thus, no one is allowed to smoke in my house.
