Just kidding about taking the kids. Of course you take the kids on family vacations. But I was wondering where do you go. Do you take a car trip or do you fly. Do you visit relatives or go somewhere exotic. I really want to know. Thanks.

It's some type of scam Shannin. I just reported the same poster for a similar post in another community. Sic Katherine on her.... ;)

Shannin why can't you travel ? Your kids are old enough to enjoy it and not be so dependent.

We go all over the place. We LOVE to travel, and yes, we usually have J in tow. We only have one kid and he is 7 now, so he is really easy to travel with.

We take lots and lots of weekend trips to Savannah, Charleston, Gatlinburg, Hendersonville, Ashville, Atlanta, Ocean Isle, Chatanooga, Hickory, Chimney Rock (Parts of Last of the Mohekans(sp) were filmed there) , Lake Jocassee, Lake Lure (Where Dirty Dancing was filmed! lol), And probably a few others, we live in a great area.

Bigger trips have been to Paris, We've been to Mexico several times, we did a costal tour of California, a cruise in Alaska, we go to Presque Isle MI almost every year, we did a tour of Florida once that encompassed a short stay at Disney, Cape Canaveral, and St. Thomas. Hawaii was AWESOME. Seattle was less family friendly than we anticipated.

Next year we are planning trips to the Grand Canyon, New York, and Washington DC. We sometimes drive, and sometimes fly, just depends on our schedule and budget.

I did my first real camping trip last summer at Mammoth Caves KY. That was.........an experience. The caves were AMAZING!!!! But there is nowhere to eat or buy food--you have to bring your own food--something that would have been good to know in advance.

I don't know about prices being jacked up from tourism, but stuff costs a heck of a lot here. We do/can get local discounts at hotels and stuff, but I still couldn't afford them.

No not really adventurous. Those places are great for kids. I started traveling when I was 10 mths so we knew we would be ok when our little one was 9 mths. I really want to do Vietnam but have been advised to wait till the kids are older as there is a lot of traveling by buses and trains which isnt the best for little kids. I would love to do Sri Lanka and India, my little one who is extremely fussy with food would love it. Her fav food is curry!

Wow Sharon, that sounds very adventurous. I wish I could be more like that. I get nervous. But what a great experience for your little one. Where next.

We've never taken a family vacation. The last vacation I went on with family was over 10 years ago. Now our "vacations" consist of trying to catch up on rest and deep cleaning the apartment.

The last real family vacation we took was to Disney 2 years ago thanks to my parents who took us. We probably won't be going back for another year or so since my daughter is only two and it doesn't make sense to go until she's at least 3. We do take trips to my parents house they live 4 hours away but I don't consider that a vacation, although they do have a pool so it's better then sitting at my house in the summer.

No not husband yet ;-)

His grandmother just went home yesterday and wants us to come visit her in their spring time, apparently it gets REALLY hot over there. I don't want to travel for 12+ hrs with 2.5 year old :-/ lol

LOL Paparazzi, it is me. I have the problem with wide open spaces. I get lost. ha ha We do what we can as far as going places. Put it this way. You would NOT want to get stuck in an elevator with me. lmbo I panic at everything.

Lol...travel is pretty much all we spend $$ on. We don't sit still much :P We actually traveled a lot more internationally before J was born, but the Paris trip was difficult with him, so we are waiting until he is about 10 to start taking him overseas again. We still do Mexico, but that is different.

I would LOVE to take J to Korea--I think you will have a wonderful trip!! Your husband is Korean isn't he? J is one belt away from his Black Belt in Taekwondo and his Master usually takes a trip home and brings several of the Black Belt students with him. I am hoping to get J on one of those trips. I've never been to Korea.

We usually go to Florida since that's where most of my family lives and it's beautiful there! So we get to visit with family and enjoy the beaches as well. We usually spend a week or so with family and then another week exploring on own. However this past August we went to Bend Oregon and stayed at my Husbands grandparent’s condo on Mt. Bachelor, which was soooo fun! I'd like to go to Italy one of these years....

ETA: We camp every summer as well but only for a weekend at a time so it's not really a vacation but more like a "get away" weekend :)

Thanks Teresa. I just thought that it would trickle down to the local residents. Its good to know that you would get discounts. Sorry you couldnt afford them. But you live in a beautiful state. :)

Teresa you live in Hawaii right. Do you find that because of tourism that the price of thing gets jacked up for the people who actually live there. I am just curious.

[deleted account]

The last family 'vacation' we took... the girls were a year old, so.... 9 years ago.

Granted, we DO go to the beach a lot. That's just part of real life though and it's not quite the same as a vacation when you LIVE here.... cuz all the real life crap still follows you where ever you go....

We love to camp and go to national monuments etc (we went to mount Rushmore over the summer). We end up going to see relatives because most of the time they will not come see us so it's that or not see them. Sometimes we fly places and we're talking about maybe an Alaskan cruise in the next couple of years.
