My 14 year old started having gran mal seizures when she was 5. She was put on tegretol then and was taken off, seizure free, at 11. They are scary and unsettling to watch, but with treatment child onset epilepsy is nearly 100% cureable. Educate yourself so you know how to react, and assure him he will be alright. Tell him how brave he is. The more you educate yourself, the easier it will be to handle. An epileptic child can and should have a normal life. Have faith and don't lose heart. He'll be ok, mama. And you aren't alone.

My son had seizures when he was born, but also grew out of them and was weened from meds. Epilepsy just means they've had more than one seizure.

Hang in there!!

My son had a developmental form of epilepsy. Three years ago he started having grand mal seizures. While the seizure itself only lasted 30 sec or so, he would be out of it for a day and a half. They put him on Keppra and it controlled them. After 2 years of being seizure free, he has weened off the medication (just within the last month) and is doing fine. They said that some kids will get it for a few years while they are toddlers and grow out of within a few years. How old is your child? I understand how you are feeling, and you are not alone. Since my son started going through it I have discovered how common it is and how much support there is.

My daughter has a mild form of epilepsy. She has Absonse seizures. Commonly called staring spells.
