She doesn't lie to her father but only me (I'm not her birth mom but has been her only mother she ever knew) and over the dumbest things. Grounding her doen't seem to work taking toys away doesn't work. Talking to her about how disrespectful and hurtful isn't working either. Has anyone else dealt with this? any ways of handling it or is it her age?

what about saying to her 'you need to go away from me until you can come back and tell me what....a b or c......i can't talk with you if i don't think what you are saying is right'. at 8, she should be able to understand that....give her plenty of opportunities to show you that she can make the right choices and tell you the truth.....little lies are a pet peeve of mine as well!

what kind of dumb things? If it isn't something major, just play along for awhile and see what happens.
