How many kids does everyone have? ........Why are all family meals at restaurants/fast food places geared to 4 or 6? What if you don't have an even number of kids?

We have 5 boys, ages 9, 7, 4, 2, and 3 mo. I'm so thrilled to hear that you other moms get the "OMG" looks and whispers. I honestly don't know why so many children scare people. It's not like the kids are going to kill or maim anyone. As far as restaurants go, we live in a community stock full of mom and pop stores. We get put as far back as they can get us and then we get looks for snagging two (sometimes three) tables. I've had to pick up the pace and get comfortable with cooking at home. I think the biggest WOWs we get is from our cargo van that gets us from here to there. I laugh (inwardly) at all the women who swear up and down they could never drive anything that big. I tell them I'll be driving a full tractor trailer by the time we're done with our kids.

I have a family of 5 children and I have to say that I hate going out with all of just any of them because they alway eat something very safe like chicken fingers of hotdogs, something i can buy for much cheaper at the market fo half the price.

I have 4 ages 11,10,8,6 and a stepdaughter age 9. My husband and I usually do takeout. I know what you guys mean about the stares...I hate the comments (are they all yours, you look too young for this many kids, how old are you, i know you are done, etc). Buffets usually work out best for lunch or late evening when they are less crowded,

Together we have 4 girls (11, 11, 7, &2), 4 boys (14, 3, 2, 6mths), 2 angels boys and expecting in March '10. We rarely go out, it's too hard to get a table large enough and well, manners are still lost on our youngest ones. lol We will do take-out, but not drive-through, they mess up the orders or want to end the order thinking we must be done ordering!

We have 4 girls (14, 9 and twin 20month old) we still go to restaurant. I get the how well your kids are all the time. Expense is the only reason we wouldnt take them out, I feel they should get the fun of going to a restaurant just like everyone else. If they get a bit noisy, I feel a bit bad, but everyone came to the restaurant knowing they were not going to have a quiet dinner at home or they would have stayed there or gone to a quiet, expensive restaurant.

He we have 7...we dine out and for the most part they have to pull a few tables together for us. We have teenagers and lil ones so I don't have a problem with letting my kids sit at a table together if we are close by (like the next table over)

Hi. I have 12 kids. The youngest two are new arrivals and we have not yet been out with all 12 children, but with 10 it is very hectic. We are also a vegetarian family so there are few places that we can go out to eat. It's always hectic with all the kids, but most places we have gone have been very accomodating to us, but it always helps to call ahead.

My husband and I have 14, and then 6 nieces and nephews raised since they were young (orphaned), so that raises it to 20, then I can't begin to tell you how many others claim us as parents. When we have family get togethers it's a riot! :) As for the restaurants, it's for a quicker turn over!

We have 8 children living with us and they are 17,14,11,10,7, 4,3,&2, so you could say we have a family of 10. We also have a 18 &19 year old who live on their own and don't got out with us. We don't eat out very often, but when we do ut is usually a drive-thru and a picnic table at the park. Once in a great while we will hit a buffet for a special occasion and seating usually the problem. We get lots of funny looks and people staring, but I can't complain cuz my kids are pretty well behaved. The older ones are really good about helping with the younger ones.

We have 7 boys, ages 16, 13, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 1. We love to go out to eat even if we have to take up 2 booths. We usually get a lot of comments on how well behaved our children are and it is very rewarding to be able to take such a large group out and have the people around you still enjoy their dinner. We do get a lot of looks and we joke that we are the newest zoo attraction, but the kids don't seem to mind the stares and usually win everyone over by smiling or talking to them. :o)

More power to you! I just felt that having more than four was as much as I could cope with, I would have more if I felt I wouldn't buckle!

Going out for a meal is a bit of a hassle and will get even more so as mine get older so I try to avoid it, but every so often I think so what I'm paying, they're working! They can earn their money tonight! lol!

All the best to everyone, much admiration for you all!

I have 5, my 3 daughters and 2 stepsons. I'm not sure what you mean by "family meals" after seeing others' responses, but just order 2 or 3 of a combo for 4, I would guess. Like, if there are 7 in your family (like mine) then 2 orders of a serving for 4. And if there are more in your family, like 9, then get 3 orders (and you might have leftovers!)

Our family is 5 fulltime and 6 partime (kids and adults included).

My thoughts: Because in today's time .. BIG family's are looked at as "Gee .. don't they know birth control? Who wants to be tied down with that mob of kids!?" Even with having 3 to 4 kids we get odd looks and the "Wow .. are you done (with having kids)?" I honestly think it is the restaurant's and the staff's laziness .. "I gotta clean that table" and "all the fuss that family will make!"

We have 5. I think that they're geared for an even number of chairs because most people go as couples. If you don't have an even number of kids, ask for the bigger table and use the extra chair to hold all of the stuff. Or you can split into two tables. That's what we do.

well i have two.. but we are planning to have another.. Yeah i agree family restaurants are so frustrating. I grew up as a family of five, and very few restaurants actually had seating for us. One thing though indian restaurants do, as usually you go in groups of more then five , indians go like two or three families together..

We have 5 (6 really, but 1 died)...HE has 1-a 17 year old son and I have 2- a 20-year old son and an almost 16 year-old-year old daughter, and WE have had 3, an 8 year old son, an 18 month old daughter and an angel baby girl who died at birth. So going out with 5 kids (or more if friends join us) is not usually a problem for us, probably because of the age difference ...we're just considered a large party.

I am a huge fan of the drive thru also ...especially when I'm out alone with younger ones (our 8 yr old,Chase was originally diagnosed PDD-NOS, now just ADHD, but I know they will eventually go back to Asbergers/Autism Spectrum again.. all of us are ADHD to varying degrees, including the adults, but Chase is different).. So, anything I can do at a drive thru (pharmacy, fast food, banking)...., I'm all over that !!

We have 8 , 17,16,12,9,7,5,3,and 8 months and we love to go to "Dim Sum" ....we have been going for about 22 years ( together while dating ) and just introduced our children to it as each on came along ... they all love it and we actually go to the very same rest. that we went to years back . There are a few of the old staff there. They think that it is pretty cool when we go in. They love to see us and watch our family grow. We even get a gift at Christmas. It is pretty reasonable for us to eat there and the tables are a large size cause it is set for oriental culture. They usually bring family and friends or extended family..... our children are home-educated so they are with us all the time no matter what we are doing so they are pretty well behaved in many different situations so we have no reservations when it comes to going out anywhere. They have their moments , trust me , they are children :) LOL, very much a blessing though....we love them all very much and have such a blast here .....

We have 4 - 16y/o, 2x13y/o and 11 - but we stopped eating out 'cause it's just too expensive. Other than pizza, our biggest treat is ordering Chinese food, which costs us about $80.00....we usually do that for New Years.

I've even stopped taking the kids to McD's 'cause even that is almost $50.00 and I can make burgers for so much less!
