I attend a small branch and teach sunday school. My 9 mo old and 2 1/2 year old goes to nursery during the sunday school and relief society. During Sacrament, my son takes the girls to the nursery after we partake of sacrament, but not before because it is important for all of us to partake of the sacrament. My son then goes to his sunday school class and priesthood. I don't let him watch the girls during those times because it is important for him to attend his classes. There are always women available to watch my girls for me. That is just my thought on nursery. My husband is just beginning to attend so it is very important for him to attend his meeting as well and he has a baptism date and I don't want him to think he has to spend his time at church in the nursery so I have talked to some of the women to make sure that the girls are covered so he can attend his meetings. I think if I was attending a larger ward I might reconsider my girls going to nursery. Also if I wasnt teaching sunday school I would reconsider that was well. I kept Chloe with me up until I started teaching then she started going to the nursery.

If you take your child under 18 months up to the nursery, you have to stay with them. I don't want my son to get used to me being up there. I want him to know that I am going to go to my class, and he is going to go to his. I have seen a lot of parents just roam the halls during Sunday School and Relief Society with their toddlers - and I think taking them to the nursery would be a better option than that. But I still try to go to class. We just sit in the back with some toys on the floor. If there is enough room I will put chairs at the end of my row closer to the front so he can't get out either side, and let him play on the floor there. So, I agree with you.
