we play In my suitcase. it is fun and easy you start with the letter and and say I am going on vacation and in my suitcase is... each person adds to the suit case. example. I am going on Vacation and in my suitcase I have an apron, the next person would say apron and ball and so on. my kids get very creative and we end up with things like zebras in our suitcase.

I was on a long trip and a made up game...name as many things you can from the clouds you see...since the clouds move & change & disappear so quickly its fun to see what the kids can make out of the clouds they see & no repeats. sometimes there aren't any clouds but even the little bit can make out something. you can have someone write what they see under their names & by the end of the ride whoever saw the most wins. but my nephew & nieces just love doing it without keeping score... just to pass the time & to hear what the others see. its fun for them & funny to hear what comes out of their mouthes.

I went on the Crayola website and printed off all of the Travel Bingo cards. I glued them to heavy card board and covered them with mac-tack. I give my kids a dark coloured wax crayon to cross off the items as they see them and an old (clean) sock to clean off the board when it's full. Since there are multiple different boards, they can play several times before they have to clean off a board to play again.
We also look for shapes in the clouds and try to spot as many different species of bird and wild life as we can.
Yarn is also a favourite with my kids for whatever reason and they will happily sit and tie it into funky looking jewelery to exchange with one another.

ABC sign game. You have to find the letters of the alphabet in the signs, you have to say the word that the letter came from and you have to say it before passing the sign. You can't skip a letter just because it's hard, like Q & Z lol. And you can't do it off of license plates either. :) Fun game!!

do they play well together or do they like to do their own thing? if they like to do things together I would suggest you have them draw & color something together or play a travel memory game for children. they may have fun looking at the pictures & numbers. If they play seperately, my friend did this with her children, if they like coloring, Get one of those large print coloring books & B4 the trip cut one or two up like puzzle pieces depending on how long the trip is & glue them on heavy stock or cardboard so the kids think they are making a special project & having fun...end result puzzle put together by 3 seperate children making 1 picture for mom 2b framed.

Color wonder markers, pipe cleaner sculptures, paint by water books (use pre-moistened q-tips instead of brushes), eye spy bottle (fill a clean plastic bottle with small toys, charms, marbles, etc...fill with rice and glue on cap or tape over it with duct tape. Be sure to attach a "Key" sheet showing the items to find)

Slug bug minus the slugging, spot the alphabet in signs along the road, what kind of vehicle (can make age appropriate), spot the state plate, sing alongs, and I have now run out of ideas since I haven't been on a long car ride with my kids in a while. It's pretty amazing the stuff you can come up with on the spot in the car. I don't know what age yours are, but even little ones can entertain themselves for a while if you make them do it. They fuss for a bit and then make up their own game, as long as you don't give in and do it for them. Hope this helps and safe trip.
