Could denying climate change one day be regarded as a crime against humanity. If people like Inhofe continue to fight against change designed to slow or reverse global warming, can they be blamed for the demise of humanity?

I was talkin about that the other day Natalie - veganism - it was a discussion about abortion though. And the whole "You're killing God's creation" argument. I said I find that argument to be 100% hypocritical solely based on the fact that most of the people who use that argument think nothing of destroying the planet or murdering animals for dinner. I'm not a vegan or even a vegetarian but I respect earth and EVERY animal, plant, creature, rock, life, that is on earth A LOT more than the majority of the jackasses that stand on picket lines in front of abortion clinics.

Anyways - I think they should be held accountable for crimes against humanity - I don't give a rats ass if you think Jesus is coming back for you or not - I DO NOT and you're not allowd to ruin earth for ME and my son and his children and the billions of people who believe the way I DO over the way YOU DO. I don't care if you want to believe that way - if you do you probably also think that "god works in mysterious ways" and "god has his path" and it is NOT ANYONE'S BUSINESS to make that happen any sooner or later than it's naturally occuring.

So back up off --- OUR OUR OUR OUR OUR --- planet and get a fuckin hobby that DOES NOT destory our precious resources.

Quoting Mary:

I have a friend who is a brilliant scientist, and also a catholic nun...She tells me that there are certain sects of christianity that suggest to their followers that when all of the resources of the earth are used up, Jesus will return and take all of his followers to heaven with him. So...if they use them faster, God will bring them home faster. She believes that this is why they deny that climate change is a problem, and why they insist on using environmentally destructive techniques to extract fossil fuels from the earth, etc. I don't know enough about different sects of christianity to know whether she is correct or just biased, but it is an interesting theory...

I grew up in a fundamental Southern Baptist home. When I first expressed concern about the environment, my mom explained to me that God created the Earth for humans to use, so it was our right to burn up resources any old way we pleased. She didn't make the direct connection that Jesus would come back when they were all gone, though she did say that He'd be back before it became a problem. She also used that to explain away my fears about overpopulation, nuclear war, and veganism.

And he continues to perpetuate a big pet peeve of mine, referring to CLIMATE CHANGE as global warming. The point of this is of course to allow for those who deny it point out all of the circumstances where CLIMATE CHANGE is leading to cooling temperatures in order to make their point that global warming does not exist. I find this man's entire stance on the issue, and those who stand with him, morally repugnant.
