So yesterday I was on my way home after running errands and I got stuck behind this White truck..you know the typical redneck vehicle covered with the I hate Obama and Liberals stickers. I am used to this I do live in the Southern Georgia in a very red conservative area where mega churches are on every corner and grocery stores sell balloons that say Jesus Loves you. Well this particular truck about sent me over the edge. It took everything in me to not rear end that truck with my SUV. The truck had the typical Calvin stickers but instead of peeing on Ford or Chevy he was peeing on PETA and the ACLU. I did not take offense to those stickers I thought they were funny and wondered if I could get a calvin peeing on the NRA put on my SUV. Then I saw that the ass had a sticker with Obama's face stating 100% douchebag..ok even that one I did not really take offense to either because I thought Bush was a 100% douchebag. But it was one particular sticker in the crap loads that were covering this truck that made me angry. In the righthand corner there was a bumper sticker with Obama's face on it that said "WHITE GUILT 08"

My blood boiled when I saw that racist friggin...ERRR..I get not agreeing with Liberals, Obama's policies, not liking him, and wanting him out of office, but to claim that the reason he is in office is due to the guilt that results from America's racist history is beyond offensive it is in itself racist and crude. I am just tired of hearing and seeing all the racism when it comes to those who do not like Obama yet when it is brought up all I hear is "oh hear you Liberals go again using the race card." Ummm NO It is real the racist views toward Obama EXIST and they need to be acknowledged and dealt with my those in the conservative party who do not agree with it because things have just gone to far and it is time to pull back the reigns on all this crazy hateful crap before we destory eachother and humanity in the process.

Luckily I live in Northern Minnesota - which is quite liberal. Of course there are conservatives, but there are enough like-minded folks of the liberal persuasion that I feel quite comfortable.

True, but sometimes it's fun to poke them a little, and it's easy to win!

Thanks. I'll check it out. I just get so tired of trying to reason with these folks who only talk in Glenn Beck approved soundbites.

Sarah, you should come over to the Political Debating Moms forum here on COMs...we could always use some more liberals over there!

I know I'm late to the party, but I hear you! I live in Northern VA, only 25 minutes from DC, but you'd think we're living in the deep south with the amount of racism and bible thumping that's been going on. I'm about going out of my mind here. I don't know which is worse, the blatant racism or the hidden racism that colors most discussions of politics around here.

I envy you being able to move in a few years. My husband in sporting the golden handcuffs at work and my nonprofit work wouldn't pay the bills. I've started blogging recently to vent my repressed liberal self. It helps but sometimes I just want to scream!

I have a couple of friends who went to DU in Denver, CO for their law degree...not sure about Women's Studies, but it is a wonderful place to live!

Hey, Bloomington is an awesome place to live and raise a family...the women's studies program here is awesome too. We also have the Kinsey Institute here, which does a lot of research in conjunction with the Women's Studies folks....totally awesome! Did I say "awesome" enough? :)

Thank you Sara! Bloomington is on my list. They offer a JD program with a women's studies minor..

I've thought, maybe it doesn't matter where I am.. If it's a college town, surely it will be liberal. However, MTSU is where I currently go, and I'll be damned if that county isn't bleeding red in every single election!! It's not that I need to be surrounded by like-minded individuals, I would just rather it be that way. =)

I live in a University town in Indiana, so thank God I have people with open minds around me, not to mention a lot of culture. But, going 20 miles in any direction will take you straight to "Deliverance" country.

Shelley, I have a degree in women's studies. I think that women's rights law would be awesome! Good luck!

I saw this bumper sticker leaving school yesterday. Next to the confederate flag, yes on the back of a big old truck, "Confederacy. Fighting terrorism since 1864."

I have to move for law school, and I'm looking ONLY for places that will get me out of the South! I worry about what my children will be confronted with here in Nashville as well, Mary. It's very encouraging to see so many who live in Canada and Colorado that say it really isn't like this everywhere. That motivates me even more to move!! I'm also very interested in finding a school with a dual degree program for an MA in women's studies or even just a feminist legal journal to further my credentials b/c I made up my mind last weekend to focus on women's rights law. =) I look forward to not surrounding my kids with people who are content in their ignorance. Goodbye Bible Belt!!

I've never lived in a crazy red-neck area, but I just recently moved Capital Hill in Denver, CO. (The next most liberal place in the state next to the Republic of Boulder), to a small town in IL. The Homophobia, and lack of education overwhelm me on a nearly daily basis. It is still a "blue" area due to high Union involvement...but that doesn't mean open-mindedness or intellectualism are running amock here...unfortunately! My hubby and I have been seriously concidering moving to Chicago (despite it's many problems) just to make sure that our children aren't surrounded by ignorance and bigotry. It's very frightening to me to think about what my children will be confronted with if I keep them where we are...it makes my hubby and I really doubt the decision we made to move back closer to my family. I'm not sure that it was worth it!

I see a good deal of support stickers here and I think because there is a military installation in the area that this helps add some different views but I see more negative angry stickers then anything. When I go to visit my parents in Northern Alabama there are a good number of republican supporters but I find the difference is in how they convey their support. Around where I live in Augusta, Georgia it tends to be more angry and crazy while if you go to an area in Georgia like Savannah there tend to be more liberals and the conservatives are intellectual libertarians who are not angry just mindful of financial conservatism. I just cannot deal with the crazy angry racist conservatives that live around my area they make me sick to my stomach.

I live in the Charlotte, NC area, and while it is a very conservative area, we libs sure give them a run for the money! I see just as many support stickers as I do non. But if you drive about 40 miles in any direction....that changes...BIG time.

Hmm. I thought that my thinking that the American south was just full of conservative rednecks with a few lonely liberals sprinkled around was a misconception on my part, but I guess it's true. I live on the westcoast of Canada where I rarely meet those types. I have to come on COM to meet up with people that close-minded.

IDK what I'm going to do when I graduate and don't have fellow-minded liberals to interact with on a daily basis... Maybe I'll move. I feel your pain Joy.

I feel you guys, I lived in Alabama for 23 years! After my work didn't do anything about certain coworkers stating that my beliefs were "disgusting" because it's their right to believe that, they wouldn't let me put up my "Obama Mama" bumper sticker in my cube because it might upset someone and work isn't the place to state your values. The South is AWESOME.

Pack up and move out! I moved to Colorado, where nature is beautiful, the weather is cool, and while it's still a little conservative, no one (that I've seen) is actively crazy or racist. I never feel judged or attacked or hated because of my views here.

I am so ready to move. I told my husband and could not deal with retiring in a conservative area. I would snap. He is going to Korea for a year so I have a little over a year left here. We are already discussing where we might be stationed next and I told him to put in for a European assignment so the kids can experience some cultural and intellectual views outside of America which it is likely if we push for it we will get it. So in a year or so I may be in Belgium, Italy, Greece, or Germany. Sometimes I want to go back to work and teach college courses just so I can surround myself with liberalism and intellectualism.

Has everyone forgotten that Obama is half white anyway???

I know!  I will never understand why if you are half white and half whatever else, you're always viewed as not being whilte, but being whatever other race you are part of.

People are trying to claim that race doesn't motivate some the hatred for Obama and his policies when it clearly does, I think don't want to be to introspective because they might learn that maybe they don't like Obama because of his race...head in the sand, head in the sand. Of course the middle-class, suburban white folks (and backwoods yokals) are threatened by him. He is a challenge to every single one of their status quo beliefs...and race plays a big part in that. If Hilary had been elected, we'd be hearing all this stuff about her being a woman, no different in my mind to race. Hell, people are saying that Sarah Palin was treated unfair because she was a woman and I'd have to partially agree with that. I think she was held to tougher standards because of her sex, and it certainly didn't help her cause that she's a dumbass.
