What Made Everyone End Up With Only One Child?

We decided to have only one child because I work full time and travel for business. I thought if we had a second child that it would end up taking time away from our son. Our son was also extremely difficult as a baby and todller and at the time I could not imagine going through that stage a second time.

We are also on Division Avenue. It is a small world.

That is funny that we live close to each other. My nephew lives on Clinton Street off of Divison Ave.

Lydia, that is too funny! I also live in Massapequa. I live right by Marjorie Post Park. How about you?

I hope so. I live in the Massapequa area and the people here seem to be nice. Although they seem to have a lot of kids.

Lydia, you're welcome. That's great that she is having a lot of playdates. She will probably make a lot of friends once she starts school since she is so used to playing with other kids.

Thats exactly what I am doing, giving her constant playdates. I can't wait for her to be in full day kindergarten. She is only 5 years old and it is a full time job being a stay at home mom, with only two hours, three days a week of preschool. I will be going back to work once she is in full day kindergarten. Thank you for your advice and support.

I would say to keep her as busy as possible with playdates. That' s what I do with my son and he almost never then complains to me about being lonely.

Thanks for your comment. It is just that my daughter complains that she is lonely sometimes. I do know some siblings do not get along. My brother and I have a rocky relationship. But as I stated earlier I do not want to lose what I have, like my house. (LOL), if I had one more child.

You shouldn't feel guilty. All I ever did growing up was fight with my two sisters. I never played with them or hung out with them and that happens more than you think. I feel with one child that not only can I give my son more financially but I can also give him a lot more attention than I received as a one of three children.

That seems to happen in my area. However, I do feel guilty when I see siblings together. These families must have old money or a lot of family help (LOL). A lot of families all live together in the same house. But it is still expensive. I grew up in an environment that was not rich at all, so I do not want to lose what I have.

I don't think people seriously consider how expensive children can be. I hear people complaining that they don't have enough money to pay their bills and already have two children, BUT, want to have a third child. It doesn't make sense to me.

I totally understand the way you feel about how expensive it is. However, everyone I know are having second children. Aren't they scared? I am glad I am not alone in the way I feel. I am so glad there is a group for women with one child.

I don't know how people do it financially with more than one child since having children is so expensive especially as they get older. My son was also very difficult when he was younger and was one of the reasons I only had one child. I have to say now that he is almost ten years old it really is so easy just having one child as compared with people who have 2 or more children.

Having one child wasn't really a choice, I did want two children, but I started having my daughter later in life. The economy is really bad, and I do not know if I can handle all of the newborn stuff again. My daughter was also very tough. My husband is almost 50.
