LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR AN AU PAIR/NANNY.
Dear Parent,
we are writing on behalf of our current nanny Stefania.
To be straightforward, if you are considering her as a care provider for your child, we are convinced that you cannot find a better person for the job. My wife and I give her our highest recommendation. This letter is unsolicited- we volunteered to write this endorsement based on our family’s great experience with Stefania.
As a professor from the University of Iowa, I (Jeff) had the opportunity to spend 5 months in Italy on a research sabbatical. My wife (Amie) and 3 year old daughter (Willa) accompained me. To allow my wife to complete online course work for a graduate degree, we needed a babysitter for Willa. Upon arriving in Italy, we found several local candidates four aur babysitting job and without question, Stefania was the best interview and we feel unbelievably lucky to have found her.
Stefania is caring, well-mannered young woman who does an amazing job with Willa. Stefania eased Willa’s transition from the U.S. to Italy with silly playtime; Willa giggles non-stop when playing with Stefania. Willa loves her more than words can say and regularly asks when she can have a “Stefania Day”. It was cold and rainy during our first couple months in Italy, so Willa and Stefania had to stay insde, but Stefania never ran out of creative ideas to play with Willa. Stefania is also tremendously generous. For Willa’s birthday, she voluntereed to make a gorgeous Snow White cake and came to her birthday party – all the while refusing to be paid for her time or the cake.
Not only is Stefania great with children, my wife and I have enjoyed having her around. From a parent’s perspective, she is very personable and easy to work with. Stefania offered to drive us to places in the area wich we cannot reach via public transportation (we don’t have a car here in Italy). We trust her as if she was a family member. When Amie and I took an overnight trip to celebrate her birthady, Stefania took the responsability to take care for Willa for over 24 consecutive hours!
We also appreciate how Stefania is respectful and does not try to assume the role of parent, but rather she carefully communicates with us on our parenting philosophy and abides by our wishes. Stefania is kind and patient with Willa’s 3 year old antics. Even when Willa is being defiant, Stefania always gets down on her level, talks to her in a calm voice, and convinces Willa to act in a more appropriate way. We believe that Stefania is meant to work with children and her aspirations of becoming a pediatrician are a testament to that.
We will miss her very much when we leave Italy. We don’t need child care when we return to the U.S., but if we did we would bring her back with us! Stefania has been a true blessing during our stay in Italy and have no doubt that she would be a wonderful complement to your family.
Stefania is an Italian girl and would become an au pair in the United States trough the Cultural Care au pair agency.

Because of financial strain, we recently had to part ways with our beloved nanny. Roxanne was a tremendous educator and loving caregiver from essentially birth to our now 20 month old. My wife is Greek-American and I am Italian-American. Our daughter at 18 months was singing the entire American alphabet counting in English and Greek, recognizing words in both languages, as well as Italian, and speaking in sentences. We cannot offer a greater recommendation for a family seeking an incredible care-giver and educator than the nanny we so woefully had to part ways with. I am writing in reference to Patsy Ellana who has been my daughter Olivia’s nanny for the past four months. I can say this with complete sincerity – hire her! If it weren’t for the fact that my family is moving to Miami, I would have never let Patsy go. She is a truly unique person, and very different from any other nanny that I have met or have seen working in NYC.
I found Patsy through her husband Roger who is the superintendent of the Co-Op building on the corner of my street (West 76th and Riverside). Patsy had been working as a Nanny with a family who needed her part-time for their two children because the mother was working from home but Patsy wanted more full-time work. If there is one major thing I can say is that Patsy is not like any of other nanny's that I have met or have seen around. She is not in this for the money. She wants a quality of experience and she wants to work with a family who she feels comfortable with. She has two grown daughters and two grandchildren in Queens and has been caring for children for 20 years. She is originally from Guyana and is still married to her childhood sweetheart (the reason I mention this is because a big thing that I was looking for was a person with stability in their own family life). The day that Patsy came to our apartment for an interview, she showed up 5 minutes early (which she has done every single day since) and was dressed up with a briefcase filled with letters of recommendation and photos of all of the children that she had nannied for. This left a lasting impression on my husband and I. Here is someone who truly takes pride in her profession.
She came with confidence and the warmest attitude. She came to meet us when I was only 7 months pregnant, and after meeting us, she told me that she would wait for us to have our baby since she got such a good feeling from us. I felt the same way. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I just had a gut feeling that she was perfect. After calling her references, I realized that everyone felt the same way about her, and a huge sign was that they ALL stay in touch with her even after their children grow up, move away, etc.
Patsy started working with us when my daughter was only two months old. As a first time mom, this was incredibly difficult for me, but Patsy made all the difference. She taught me more than I could ever have hoped for, and her sincerity and lovingness helped me through the rough transition. She knew what she was doing with my newborn, and I felt immediately comfortable leaving Olivia with her. Patsy is incredibly loving, warm and supremely responsible. She adores Olivia and Olivia is obsessed with her. Patsy has a firm policy (which she will share with you) that she does not talk on the phone or watch TV at all while she is at work. I can confirm that this is true because on a number of occasions I have returned home when she isn't expecting me, and even when Olivia is napping, she is cleaning my apartment, doing laundry or sitting on the floor reading a magazine that I leave around for her. She is incredibly flexible with her schedule and is more than happy to come back at night to babysit. She has NEVER asked me for anything, or questioned her payments, etc. She has told me before that she believes that if you do a good job, you will be rewarded without having to ask.
Although Olivia is only 6 months old, Patsy has managed to really work with her and teach her a number of different things. She truly believes that babies need interaction, and will never leave Olivia sitting by herself when there is something that she can be doing with her such as reading, singing, dancing or taking a walk in the park. It is important to note that since Patsy lives in Manhattan, she knows the city very well and is very comfortable with taking Olivia out for walks, to the park etc. This is a huge comfort for a new mom who wants to make sure that her child is in the best possible hands.
Everything Patsy does is done with care and diligence. She is proud of her job, proud of the children she takes care of, and incredibly honest and open. She has become a dear friend, and I am truly devastated to lose her in this move. If I could take her with me, I would.

Hello,

I was wondering if you found a nanny yet? I am opening a creche out of an apartment on the UWS. It will be a small setting- no more than 10 babies and 4 care-givers.
