I was just reading some of the posts and it seems like there are quite a few of you who are afraid to approach people about your business. I once heard a stat (last year) that there are 30,000 people in the United States looking for a Direct Sales Opportunity every day. So, my feeling is that if one person says they are not interested in your business, you move on to the other 29,999 that might be. So think about why you joined the Direct Selling Business that you are a part of. What drew you to your company? If you want to succeed in ANY Direct Selling Business, you need to OPEN YOUR MOUTH and share what you love. When I am going through a check-out line, I ask the checker (with my most positive, fun, bubbly, happy voice) if they have a current copy of the Scentsy catalog. Immediately, they are thinking that in fact, they should have a copy and why have they missed out on having one. If you try this with your head hanging low, and you can\'t look the person straight in the eye, or if you talk so quiet because you are afraid of a \"NO THANK YOU\", then this approach won\'t work. If you LOVE the company you are with, be proud of what you have to offer! Our motto for Scentsy is \"Shine in 2009\". Believe in your products, and don\'t let one or two \"NO\'s\" stop you in your tracks. Move on until you get your \"I would love a catalog\" (or a business card, or to set up a party). Be excited, hold your head up high, and know that you may have the opportunity that could make a difference in someone else\'s life. With the economy the way it is, people are looking. Let\'s all open our mouths, be excited, and \"Shine in 2009\"!

So the next time you want to talk about your business or hand out a card or book etc , When you hear Emmy telling you NOT to do it . Tell her to SHUT THE H_ LL up ! You have nothing to loose move forward and face the fear .

Wow. I don’t sign in everyday, but I am glad I did today. Echoing the comments already stated, that is a right on time message. Angela, thank you for cheering us on to take charge of our success. Too many times we blame others for our failures. We must encourage ourselves and think of all the reasons why we are in business and keep it in front of us to pull us along in those times of doubt. You all are absolutely right to say that one size does not fit all. If I wear a size 9 shoe, then the size 6 shoes just won’t fit. But when the shoe fits, you betta’ where it out!

Finding what you love; finding your passion is where you will succeed. I love the health and fitness industry and now I am with a company that supports my efforts and allows me to earn free customers, free business partners and pays me to get fit. I do love that and I will tell everybody I know. As Monique said, it might have meant not right now. Following up is key. Thanks ladies, I needed this push.

I completely agree with your post. We have to remember that we have something to offer, we aren't just bothering people. We have something that others want!! It's up to us to give it to them. If you don't, someone else will. Anybody see the new PartyLite catalog??

Thanks everyone for the inspiration!!! Just know that after each "no  thank you" response, your that much closer to a "YES".  Share what you truly love and  believe in, and good fortune will follow.  I am a PartyLite Unit Leader and not only am I making great money, I am also meeting a lot of fantastic people along the way!!!  I don't plan to stop here ! I kind of chuckle when people tell me they dont have time, because, I not only do my PartyLite business, I work 40 hrs a week and have a 4 1/2 year old and a 2 year old. So in other works ...."their loss"  Just keep it moving!!!!!!

This is so true - I have done several home base companies and nothing feels as good as the one I am part of now. I get to show moms how to cook healthy and fast. So they can enjoy the kids sporting events, concerts, or just having fun in the yard more. An all natural food company that believes in praising you to acheive the most. Honestly it is so easy, no inventory for you to keep, and they ship directly to the customer so you don't have to. Please contact me if you want more info. I have alot to share and if you are willing to learn your opportunity is endless. Super excited with my first few months success.

I agree! My motto is that for every no, there is a yes. You have to look for the Yes's! I totally agree with the way the ecoonomy is, there are lots of people looking for jobs or their own business to start. With Avon, we do the Power of 3, share the business with at least 3 people a day, but I share with everyone I come in contact with because I believe in my business and the products I sell. Anyone interested, contact me at pjblove@msn.com or go to my website to sign up today for $20 at www.youravon.com/perrinlove. What business can you start at this economical amount?

This is so true. I feel that you have to be a product of the product and love using it because if you don't, it will show on your face and in your attitude. People just know if you are being honest and sincere or are just trying to sell them something. You have to love what you do.
I love my home business and wouldn't trade it for anything. I show appreciation and gratitude to others, and it always comes back to me. If you are looking for a business that you would love to do because everyone loves and has a need for your product, then please contact me for more information.

This is so true!! In my former direct sales business my upline director always used this analogy: Think about when you go to a restaurant or even through drive thru of a fast food place, the person serving you will ask "Would you like a dessert today or supersize that meal? Sometimes people say no, but do you think the waiter or drive thru person takes your no personally and doesn't ask anyone else for the rest of their shift? Absolutely not because some people will say yes! We have to look at our business in the same way. It doesn't mean we have to be pushy or desperate. Just ask!

I am now with Noah's Ark Animal Workshop and have been working my business for the last two years as a summer job only because I worked full time as a teacher. Now I am a stay at home mom and work my business full time. At first I was timid about making phone calls because I thought maybe my daycare/school/ business contacts wouldn't want to book workshops during the regular school year and if the interest was going to be there due to the economy right now. I have worked very hard to establish good relationships with my customers and when I started making phone calls it was like talking to old friends for those that have booked workshops with me the last few summers. 95% of my existing customers have rebooked and many of them more than one workshop while I have also picked up new customers too. Some have declined because they are hesitant about the economy, but I haven't let that stop me! Usually the very next person I call will book a workshop or better yet call me to book!

It does happen with consistent effort, allowing yourself to step out of your comfort zone and focusing on building solid relationships rather than how much profit you are going to make off of the person initially.

Angela, you are so right! I am a Regional Vice President with Arbonne International and am so excited about what my products and opportunity can do for people! I love what it has done for me and my family.

We hear all the bad news, some of which is very real, but another part of the reality is that there are good things happening! In fact, I watched a video clip yesterday with Maureen Mulvaney, author of The Women's Millionaire Club and I loved what she said. She refuses to participate in the "recession" , the "depression" or whatever the news is calling it. That is the true entrepreneurial spirit and attitude.

Here is the link to that interview

http://www.abc15.com/mediacenter/local.a...

Hope it works! My company, Arbonne International is celebrating 29 years and we had the largest growth we have ever seen, in January. This is after averaging 100% growth for the last 5 years! We had more than 64,000 new people join us in January!

So, be confident ladies and be the best representation of your company you can be! Be the consultant/representative that you would want to most have on your team! We small home based business owners can make a difference if we choose to.

I have to agree with you. You have to open up and talk to complete strangers about your business. I sell Avon and am continually offering fast food employees and cashiers at Wal-Mart, etc my brochure. All they can do is say NO right? And even the Men...a few go, "No, that is ok...but then I tell them there IS a men's line and they should look...therefore leaving my brochure after all. :) A fellow rep that I am good friends with even goes far enough to approach women in the grocery store, or calls random phone numbers every once in a while. She gets more customers and reps to sign up under her!

Hi everyone!

I would like to share my business opportunity because we have an amazing special promotion this month...FREE February!  That's right...you can become an Independent Distributor without having to pay for the enrollment fee!  What's the catch?...nothing at all.  Simply log on to my website at www.nutritionaljuice.com and enroll for FREE (we don't even ask for a credit card).

Have you heard of MonaVie (www.monavie.com)?  This company is # 1 in it's category, the Functional Beverage Industry (which includes energy drinks like RedBull, athletic recovery drinks like Gatorade, nutritional drinks, etc).

MonaVie is an awesome company because:

- billions of dollars in revenue generated since it launced in 2005 (we are breaking records in the Direct Selling Industry)

- fastest growing privately owned company and debt free (no need to worry about MonaVie in the stock market)

- 50% of their revenue is paid back to their distributors WEEKLY

- # 1 compensation plan -- you get paid 8 ways!  (how many different ways do you get paid?)

- # 1 product and the # 1 acai

- excellent Management Team

- projected sales goal of $20 billion in 20 years

- strategically developing international markets and rapidly expanding around the world

- MonaVie has an awesome Science Advisory Board

- nearly a dozen doctors on MonaVie's Medical Advisory Board

- MonaVie has a Distributor's Advisory Board (because they care about their Distributors)

- they have the right cause, the M.O.R.E. project (www.themoreproject.org)

- MonaVie & Acai has been featured in local news on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC as well as many shows including General Hospital, Rachel Ray, Oprah (with Dr. Oz and Dr. Perricone), the Today Show with Matt Lauer, MTV Cribs and most recently on The Doctors (which aired 1/7/09).

- MonaVie & Acai also appeared in articles published in Fortune magazine, Beverage World magazine, Direct Selling News, Good Life magazine, People magazine, People Style Watch magazine, Reuters magazine, Soap Opera Digest, Success from Home magazine (twice), The Boston Globe and Your Business magazine.

- Featured in several online publications such as aol.com, businesswire.com, functionaldrinksnews.com, forbes.com, dallasnews.com, morningstar.com, marketwatch.com and yahoo.com.

- MonaVie produced over 40 cash-flow Millionaires in 40 months...that's 1 millionaire per month since the company started in 2005.

Why should you enroll as a Distributor with MonaVie (especially if you're already passionate about your business)?  I believe it's important not to put all of your eggs in one basket...just like in the stock market, it's important to diversify.

MonaVie has an open door policy...you can still do your business while you're a MonaVie Independent Distributor.

When you enroll with MonaVie during the month of February, you...

- secure your spot in one of the fastest growing company in the U.S. for FREE

- become a business owner (the CEO of your MonaVie franchise) without having to pay for overhead, operating expenses and payroll for your employees...but you will have MonaVie employees to help you with your business

- own a MonaVie virtual office for FREE (renewal fee of only $20 after 1 year)

- receive FREE virtual training and support from your virtual office

- receive FREE leadership support and training (team website, conference calls, webinars)

- receive FREE cutting-edge information (www.blackdiamonduniversity.com)

- purchase your MonaVie at wholesale price

- get the nutrients and antioxidants you need when you consistantly drink this amazing product that really works...don't believe me, try it yourself or watch some of the media coverage on www.realhealthanswers.com -- MonaVie works!

If you decide that you simply just want to secure your spot in MonaVie or you just want to drink the juice for now...that's okay too...there is absolutely no pressure.  It's your business (or MonaVie distributor membership) and it's up to you how you would like to proceed.

I've been a stay-at-home Mom for almost 8 years and I didn't want to go back to the corporate world.  Now, I'm currently one of several top distributors for MonaVie and I show people how to get better health, more wealth, and time freedom.  I simply provide you with the training and support that will help you reach your measurable goals...whether it's to earn enough money to pay for your MonaVie or extra income to pay for your MonaVie and car/car insurance or income to pay for your MonaVie, car/car insurance and mortage (or rent).  You do not need to be a sales person to be a successful Independent Distributor for MonaVie...you just need to know what you want.  Do you want to seize the moment to take advantage of the "right place, right time" opportunity?  Then enroll today at www.nutritionaljuice.com ...it's FREE!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes,

Wow, what a great selection of home based business opportunities -- with very sound and positive feedback!

That is what I love about this industry--and my business.  We do it b/c we love our products or services (in my case) ...I get paid everytime my cell phone or home phone rings, or when  I surft the web and because my husband ordered his NFL Sunday sports package!

And for my business partners who have  a little harder time coming out of there shell----well Donald Trump takes care of that - as our company spokeman!

In fact, for those of you who enjoy the Apprentice---Donald Trump is going to feature my company and introduce the next explosion in telecom technology...  newest Videophone that has been said to be the best shift in technology since the invention of the telephone!

Episode airs March 22

Thank you for sharing your business opportunity and letting me share mine!

I have called people and have received mostly "no" responses and I have thought about getting out of the business. However reading these posts have really boost my moral! It is every 10 no's to 1 yes.  I do need to take myself out of the equation and let them decide how they want to share their "story"

Awesome Angela! I tell my team the same thing. My business is dong great because I talk to people and ask EVERYONE if they are familiar with The Pampered Chef. I tell them to go practice in another town if they are afraid because chances are they won't see those people again unless they book a show, become a consultant or attend a show!

Get pumped 2009 is going to be an exciting year!

What a great post Angela! I am a Tastefully Simple consultant and with the state of the economy EVERYONE is looking to make a little extra cash. We are doing a disservice to ourselves and our clients if you are not offering them the opportunity to both save money by doing parties or by signing up to be a consultant. The average american who claims bunkruptcy would have only needed an additional $300 per month to stay out of bankruptcy!! Just by doing a few parties per month they could avoided financial disaster!! So speak up ladies......you never know who's life you might change!!

Wow, love all of the comments.  I will say that you have to get those No's to get the yes's.  It's just a numbers game.  The no's are not personnel, it's just there not ready for your product at that point in there lives.  I will say don't ever dismiss or put there names in the back of you business binders.   You never know what may happen and when they will need your product.

I was in Mary Kay for 4 yrs.  Became a Director is 3 months,.....love your product and your passion will sell it for you.   Always, Always give everyone you come in contact the oppertunity to view your product.  I am currently in direct sales with MonaVie.  A heath drink.  You obtain so may benifits with this drink.  (please visit Monavie.com)   This  company that has been around for only 4 yrs and produced several millionairs already.   It a prime time to be in this company, kinda like starting out at the beginning with Arbonne, Mary Kay, Pamper Chef.  You better belive that I am going to ask everyone to taste my product.  :)  Not just for my benifit but for theirs.......I LOVE this Product!!!!

Even if your company has been around for a while you must a  have that Passion and it will do wonders for your business.   Believe, Believe, Believe....people will want what you have if you excude that passion.

Hope this helped.

If anyone is interested in Mona Vie for personnel use or as a business please contact me at melissa.bolado@yahoo.com or visit monavie.com

Angela, I agree - just like all the other wonderful responders!

In my MARY KAY business, it seems pre-judging whether folks will want to hear about it or not, is the only negative.

Every time I've asked a stranger, friend or family member to just sit down and try the #1 Skin Care in America (15 years running...), they have said "yes" or have eventually agreed. Haven't found anyone who hasn't LOVED the products yet... What a valuable tool our mouths can be.

Wow, that was powerful and SO TRUE. It can very difficult to break out of the mold and learn to promote yourself and your business. People should really stop saying the don't like sales because the truth is everyone must sell something at some point in their life. Don't you have to sell yourself and your abilities at a job interview? The key is to make sure YOU truly BELIEVE in what you are offering. If you are not happy with what you are offering you will NEVER feel comfortable promoting it to anyone.

Don't worry about people giving you a date set in stone for a party. If they said they want one, they really do, but they usually just want to make sure their day for the party is a day where they can really focus on the party instead of worrying about about playing hostess. In my experience, when they feel organized enough they will definitley have the party, but be patient and keep them in the back of ur mind and give them gentle reminders every chance u remember.

Not all of ur business will come from just having a party either. If u just happen to mention what u do to ur friends they will tell others, it's mainly word of mouth in which I find results.

Also, be urself! People can tell if u r just trying to "hunt them down" or if ur sincere in helping them w/ what they want in the way that u speak to them. It always helps to be honest and forthcoming in ur business relationships, because they usually turn out to be repeat customers and they can feel a vibe of goodwill.

Just be urself and treat ur customers as if they were ur friends.

Hope this helps:)

The company I'm with is positioned to be the next billion dollar company! We have technology that no other direct sales company has! We have combined online social networking with the health and wellness industry! We are launching something on Feb 7th, that will set our compensation plan apart from all the others!

I agree with what you said.  I think we are almost as afraid of success as we are of failure.  Get out there ladies...step out of your comfort zone and make something great happen.  Now is the time 2009'.  The economy is not great so people are looking for great opportunities to make extra stable income. I am an independent distributor for Exfuze and am really fired up for the new year and making great things happen.  Good luck to all!

WOW! That was so inspiring! Thank You. That may have been the boost I needed.

I totally agree with you Becky! I started with The Traveling Vineyard to make myself move out of my comfort zone of just blending into the backgroung.  I want my children to feel the self-confidence I've never truly possessed at a young age so they won't go through all the difficulties i did as a "shy" child.  Although I'm not there yet, everyday I'm working on it and just take it one glass of wine at a time! (which by the way, is a great way to get over your shyness talking in front of people--drink for a living!)

Thank you so much for the encouraging note.  I feel like I have reached a dry point with my Stampin Up! business and you have brought a fresh new light to my approach.  I love the Shine in 2009!

Quoting Rachel:

The ratio is about 10 no's to every 1 yes. They are not saying NO to you but to what you are offering at that time. It doesn't mean NO NEVER but not right now.

. I finally started to bloom even more with my business when I finally learned to take myself out of the equasion. It's not about ME - it's about helping my customers, hosts, and recruits with what's best for THEM!

You truly succeed by helping others to succeed themselves. (I forget who's quote that is)

That is a fabulous point and I have heard that from so many Direct Selling coaches.  NO doesn't mean forever.  It just means now isn't a good time.  A few months or even a year down the road it may be a Yes.

I love the part about taking "ME" out of the equation.  We are so quick to not want to get our feeling hurt that we forget it's not about us.

Thanks for the encouragement. That was really well said Angela. I don't know how to read all the other posts but I was able to see all the replies here. I've just recently joined so I don't know how all this works. It is interesting to learn all of the different types of home based businesses out there from the responses. I've never even heard of a lot of them! That means many others havent' heard of them either! So get out there and get heard!!

Attitude is everything. You are so right about looking them in the eye. Expect a YES!! You can project your outcome on your prospect. Also know that NO's are normal. EVERYONE get's no's. Every no you get you are closer to a YES. The ratio is about 10 no's to every 1 yes. They are not saying NO to you but to what you are offering at that time. It doesn't mean NO NEVER but not right now.

Think of it like you're offering them a peice of gum. If they said No when you offer a peice of gum - would you go home and cry? Of course not. So why should a NO be so scary in your business? They are the one that's loosing out - you've already got all the benefits - you're a consultant. Many people have different reasons for saying no too - it could just be a bad time. They still could be very flattered that you asked.

I think you're absolutely right! I have a corporate gifts business. Sometimes I don't have the confidence to solicit new business. I believe in what I do. I know I have the best prices because I used to work for a large company who charged more than 40% markup at minimum when I only mark things about 10%. I don't know what makes me scared to solicit business to everyone. Sometimes I get a sudden surge of confidence. I will solicit the business owners of where I am eating dinner or otherwise am a customer. I guess it is just hard sometimes to summon up courage. It might have to do with the fact that some days I still don't even have time to make myself up! I think it is important to get dressed every day and look good for myself. Sometimes, though, it doesn't happen.

That said, with this confidence, if anyone needs any logo items or gifts for Valentine's Day, my company is called Say Thank You and you can find me at saythankyougifts.com. My website is only a small sampling of what I have and I don't have online ordering. Thanks!

Thank you, for your inspirational message! Great positve energy for 2009 and defenitly a good way to voice opportunities to others about what you do.

I am in a business called SHOP TO EARN. An earth friendly company inspired to help the earth and becoming the largest shopping Portal in the Planet. At this time we have hundreds of the top department stores and online businesses affiliated to the program like Macys, Expedia, hotel.com, target, Kmart, avalon organics, true green, and hundreds more. When you begin your business, you get your own website being able to shop on your own site and get cash back and points everytime you shop. ALL points become cash at the end of the month. It is such a great business; once you see the benefits of shopping online by saving time, gas, and money, you defenitly refer friends, families, and inform others of such a great opportunity to make extra money. Everyone shops on a daily basis which makes it easier to shop onine for what you need. I was refered by a friend who I thank her now for her recomendation.  I hope everyone who wants a grand opportunity to make money and help the planet will be able to take a look at my website.  I have many people in my business and I help all my downline in the development of a successful team. I will guide and send you all th einformation you need to get started. When you shop, you shop through your portal (website), choose the store you want to buy from and you will shop directly through the store you want to buy from. It is great for schools, parents, and etc. All the cash back you receive from your shopping is non taxable. DUe to this feature, In my team , I have schools even the Miami red cross joining as a website owners to promote their organization as a non profit and raise money. You can also become a broker and of course the commissions increase and on that side of the business you would have to pay taxes. I can explain in detail when someone is interested. If you want to hear more about it I can assist in any questions you might have. My name is Joyce, my email is www.shoptoearn.net/joyceh .  I can help anyone who wants to start their own business or as a non profit organization .....and assist them in the growth process. Good luck you will see the great potential I saw. This has really helped me and my family in these harder economic times. =) JH

It's so nice to see such positive outlooks toward all of your direct selling businesses! I often tell people they get out of it what they put into it and a postive attitude makes a huge difference. I think that's one of the reasons I have so many repeat customers. They love having the positive energy around them and they get to learn some new paper crafting techniques as well. Some ladies get together with me once a month and have for over 2 years now. I just have to remember to open up to people not in my circle. That makes a huge difference.
