Hi Everyone,
I stumbled upon Circle of Moms by accident and love the support that women are giving to one another. I have been doing research on how to get into direct selling, I have checked out Northern lights, Pink Papaya, and jewelry companies but I can’t seem to go the extra mile to get starter kits because I don’t really know how to go about doing the selling part and to whom, I’m scared and worried I won’t choose the right company. I WANT to invest but don’t really have a lot of money, the need and drive are there I just feel that I could use more info. on how to succeed in this field so I don’t fail. Maybe, who to choose and how to go about getting a business going from my home, if anyone could help me I really would appreciate it.

Thank you,Marie

Well Congratulations on deciding to start your own business. First off I suggest investigating several companies just by doing a google search. Talk to other consultants. Find a company/product that you love and go from there. Enlist friends and family to host parties or look at books which ever is best to promote the products you are selling. There are lots of great companies with great products that practically sell themselves. I hosted many Epicure parties and my friend and family were getting me to order from my consultant before I decided to sell it, who doesn't love to eat and it's like groceries so people need to restock. So maybe host a party of two of your own first to see if it works for you and if you have a market.

Good Luck!

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

Hi there not sure if you already found a perfect fit for you... If not I might have something you would want to look into. If you love coffee or green tea and enjoy helping people become healthy then Javita is for you since it sounds like you have the excitement and determination :-) we are a weightloss coffee and our motto is to 'change lives one cup at a time' and since people forget to take their vitamins they never forget their cup of Joe - so why not drink a better coffee infused w Garçinia Cambogia (as seen on Dr OZ as the holy grail) and other great herbs (Yerba mate, green tea) for sustained energy as majority of moms need to get through the day! Feel free to check out my website myjavita.com/jenniferaz or send me a message to find out more - it's a debt free company and great support & tools to share this amazing product huge opportunity for residual income as well - xoxo Jennifer

Have you heard of Jewelry in Candles? i just joined for FREE. i got a FREE website. and I didn't have to purchase anything. until 11/24/13 it is free to sign up to "sell" and after that you HAVE to buy a rep kit. they are less than $30 as of today. you get one candle or tart melt that has a hidden jewelry surprise and the samples of all the smells. these candles are 100% soy and include a piece of jewelry of choice (necklace, earring, ring sized 6-9 or pick random and be surprised!!) there are no costs unless you want to purchase it's basically an online business and the product gets shipped to the buyer. you can earn 30% commission on all sales. you DO NOT have to have home parties. you DO NOT have to meet any quotas for the month! sell as much or as little as you want!! take a peek at jewelryincandles.com/store/jennifer_b and let ,e know what you think or contact me for more info! ive tried partylite before and could not keep up with it, but this is totally my pace what i want to do and when i want to do it. sorry for any spelling errors and my non capitalizing!! lol

Hi Marie,
I am not sure if you found your direct selling home yet but I wanted to share my story with you. I too stumbled upon Circle of Moms by accident and registered. I recently became involved with a direct selling company because I was looking for something I am passionate about. Their mission statement spoke to me:

Younique's mission is to uplift, empower, validate and ultimately help build the self-esteem of women around the world. Through high-quality products that encourage these core values - along with spiritual enlightenment - we're enabling opportunities for personal growth and financial reward to women everywhere.

I would love to speak with you about the opportunity. The starter kit is $99 and if you decide it isn't for you, you at least have a bunch of beautiful, non toxic make up to keep!

Best,
Gina

hi Marie
I have been in direct sales now for 9 years. Some important questions are is the company financially sound, debt free, does it offer a ground floor opportunity, is the product line saturated in the industry, how many consultants do they have, type of corporate support, field support, product return rate, to name a few. I left a jewelry direct sales company after 9 years because the jewelry market became saturated and become more difficult to have others host parties and sign up new recruits. I love the company i am now with because, they are debt free, a unique product line, little industry saturation, ground floor opportunity to grow, quality product and amazing support from corporate and the field. I would be more than happy to share more with you...

You can go to the BBB or the Direct Selling Association to check out weather or not a company is legit. I did a ton of research 5yrs ago before I found one that was a good fit for me. The other thing I would look at is the product or service something people need and will spend money on in this tough economic time? I am so blessed to be able to help others work from home and save money on health care they so deserve! I would be glad to answer any questions I promise no hard sell or pestering you can friend me here or here http://www.facebook.com/TeresaAnnMartine...

Marie, Hopefully you have found a business already :) Your post was in May and it's now Nov. You've received lots of great advice (and many offers too). Bottom line, find a product you love madly, one you would use/take even there were not a pay plan attached, then 'shop' upline for a dedicated, long term mentor; realize ANY business takes time, invest in growing yourself, and report back how you're doing! Good luck! There are tons of excellent opportunities that are out there! If you've not already, you WILL find one.

Hi Maria,
Wow you have alot of good responses. I didn't see where you had posted that you had made your decision. I am a personal coach with those looking for home businesses. I have reviewed alot of different types and I would be happy to help you evaluate the compaines you are looking into. I have seen so many people start with a company without really weighing the pros and cons and end up unhappy in 3-6 months. I found the right one for me but it took some trial and error and I have found that I enjoy helping others sort thru and find a good fit for them (even if its not my company). Please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to help you.
By the way I am a consultant with Scent-sations, Inc. Learn more about us here: www.TheLastingCandlelady.com

Hi Marie,

I hope to provide some information that will help you.

When starting your own business, you have to look at what its going to take for you to market your business. You should consider current trends, what people want, what people need. We are in a recession, you may love the product that you are trying market to other people but do you think most other people will? If you had the money to open a store, what would your store have in it? You would try to find a product that would appeal to most average people, not just a select few. You have to believe in what you are doing and have a passion for it and when you start a business there are so many things to consider. I was with a jewelry company many years ago, I LOVED the jewelry, but it was expensive and I had to convince people why they needed it. In today's economy that is very difficult right now. I spent a fortune on the kit and then 6 months later they retired most of what I had and then I had to buy new jewelry. This was a vicious cycle every 6 months, they were retiring jewelry and I had to find a way to get rid of that and buy more. Then I had to buy catalogs, order forms. I spent WAY more than what I took in. Other people are very successful at it so it can be done. At the time I did not have children but even then trying to book parties every single weekend was difficult. Again, you just have to decide what its going to take for you to grow your business.

About two years ago I started looking into starting a home based business. Because of my previous experience at my failed jewelry business, I spent a lot of effort this time around researching a good business model. I researched companies and looked at opportunities with an open mind. I sat down and made a "wish list" of things that I wanted in a business and things that I did not want in a business. 1. I did not want to do parties (I have a child now and a husband that works a lot and that is just not feasible) so I knew I wanted to work strictly from home 2. The product had to be something that people NEEDED and USED - a consumable product 3. The products had to be affordable 4. the products had to be safe and green as health and wellness is something that I am very passionate about 5. the compensation plan had to provide residual income, I needed money that I could count on monthly 6. I did not want to take orders, stock inventory, make deliveries - my customers had to shop directly with the company 7. The products had to be refundable - if I hated the business and products after 2 months could I box it all up and send it back 8. the company had to be BBB accredited and 9. They had to be in business for at least 15+ years. I did not want some fly by night company.

When I had my "wish list" completed I set out to find a company that could meet or exceed my expectations. My time and money is valuable. It took me a year but I finally found a company that fulfilled my wish list. I highly recommend that you get a business plan together and do your homework on any company that you look into. See if the company you are looking into meets YOUR list of expectations. I started my jewelry business because I loved the jewelry but I quickly discovered that it was a hard product for me to market to others. I can't be successful if I can't market the products and sometimes our personal excitement is not enough. Good luck with your business search and let us know how it is going for you.

Best of luck to you,
April

Hey Marie, Did you find a business opportunity for you? If not here is some tips that might help. First step check out a few business that interest you. See what they have to offer. Also interview the people that are showing you the various opportunities. This person is going to be your business partner so you want someone who you feel a sense of trust and rappor with. Ultimately they will be the ones guiding you in the right steps to succeed. Who you choose as your enroller, mentor, trainer will derfinitley be instrimental in building your business . You need to feel a sense of trust and belief that person will be there to help you. Picking the right company for you that has products you can be passionate about and picking a good mentor will increase you chances of success in what you choose. Look for a company that has been in business for at least 5 years and that has a good track record. You should have to pay more than $250-500 for a start up kit. Make sure the start up fee is refundable with a trial period. Ask yourself when you are evaluating products, what is my target market and it this something that people would still be buying in hard times. Good luck in your search. If I can be of any help send me a message.
To your success, Denise

Hi, Marie! I have benefitted from reading everyone's comments and input as i have only recently gotten involved in a direct sales business too after much contemplating. I also strongly advise a company listed with Direct Selling Association so you know there are high standards the company has promised to maintain. If possible, depending on your interests, consider something new that you have not heard of before and that you know your prospective customers have likely not heard of either. I really enjoy telling people about my business venture with Initials, Inc. because it is new to almost everyone I meet. Initials, Inc. offers great, quality products and free personalization on every product. (Please email me a private message if interested in learning more about this opportunity that offers an inexpensive kit for getting started and you personalize products to your own liking -- www.myinitials-inc.com/kristarexroth). Freebies and unique incentives like free personalization, help to excite prospective customers and convince them of their need for your product.

Good luck to you and to all the ladies that have posted through your initial post!

Hi, Marie~

I just joined Circle of Moms, so I'm not sure if you've found a direct-sales company to invest.

Definitely be a part of a company & products you believe in!

I'm a Senior Educational Consultant with Discovery Toys. I became a consultant after watching my son play with his Discovery Toys and realized that he didn't play with his other toys. Discovery Toys products support learning paths for exploration, math, motor skills, reading & language, thinking, and expression. I love the company's core beliefs, their dedication to providing the highest quality books, toys, and games available, and their product & safety quality (each backed with an unconditional satisfaction guarantee).

The Educational Consultant Kit is $125 (this month's promotion $105) and filled with classic top-selling toys, retail value of over $400! In addition to rewarding commissions, you can earn your kit for free, earn free products, and additional bonuses when you follow the Discovery Toys Success Start Reward Plan.

Please feel free to contact me & Good Luck~

Hi Marie,

This is a normal feeling. I understand where you coming from. When Scentsy was introduce to me I didn't sign up right away but I just knew I wanted to do this. Like many I was also looking for something to do and was ready for the corporate world no one was hiring. A blessing of disquise Scentsy was introduce to me in December. I then signed up in February of this year two things that drew my attention 1) $99 to start your own business & my sponsor showed me how I can earn that right back and 2) the maintenance was not bad either $150 to stay activate every 3 months. I asked myself what do I have to loose. I have been doing so well in a matter of 6 months I have accomplished a Star Consultant with 12 people under me. My team is growing I've established a wonderful group of ladies who I help accomplish there goals as well. The support is very important to me and I am here for you if you decide to be apart of my "Dream Big" team.

Lastly, I also have a reason why I am doing Scentsy! I have to keep my 2 kids in a private school with the economy we were close to putting them both to a public school. That wasn't an option for me so Scentsy has been an blessing for me and my family. The kids are doing well in a private school and I have Scentsy to be thankful for that.

I would love the opportunity to speak to you. I I will send you a message with my number & maybe we can chat answer any questions you make have.

Congrats on taking the first step. I wish you the best success!

Hi Marie. What will you utilize and what do you know your friends, relatives and neighbors could use? With me it was Herbalife. We are a top in the Wellness Industry, which is the "hot" market to be in this decade. Baby Boomers want to live healthier, longer, and look and feel the best they can. We have the products and excellent Research and Development to keep us at the top! Training is never ending. All available on line at your convenience. Help is only a call away. We are all friendly and work together well, since we don't have to compete against each other, in this industry. The population of overweight and obese people alone is HUGE (pardon my pun)! I was a size 22 last year and I wear a size 8 Levi now. I feel great. No naps and lots of energy that I never knew I was capable of having. I love Herbalife and I love being a distributor. The product is not only excellent, but the company is global. In 30 years we are available in 73 countries and are still growing by leaps and bounds. I had the same concerns before I became a Scentsy consultant! But if you sell a great product, your business comes from referrals. Everyone that comes into my home comments on how great it smells and they become a customer. Then they refer me when someone compliments their fragrant home. One customer has sent me 10 referrals..and these are all people I have NEVER met! This is how I have built my business and become quite successful! I never thought I would be a direct seller of any product, but when I received Scentsy as a gift, I fell IN LOVE! As a result, my husband suggested I sell it purely for the tax benefits of having a home business...my income has far exceeded what I expected and I couldn't be happier. I was looking for an opportunity to make some extra money -- Thirty-One Gifts was the opportunity I was looking for. I loved the philosophy behind the company and the people within it!

Thirty One Gifts offers a unique product line, ranging from purses and hand bags to stationary and personalized accessories. Thirty One products are outstanding, unique, and are very-high, if not the highest, quality. The Thirty One Gifts mission is to celebrate, encourage and reward, because of this we put all effort to ensure our products are cleverly designed, gift-able, affordable and of very high quality. Gifts from Thirty One will always bring a smile to the recipients face.

The best part is that I create my own hours. I can work as little or as much as I would like. The income possibilities are endless. There are also fantastic rewards and incentives with this company. The company is so new in the marketplace that no one has really heard of it and the consultants are not saturating the area. Our start- up fee is $99 and they have a promo now to earn $50 cash back!

Check out my website at http://www.mythirtyone.com/perkinson for more information and see the amazing Thirty-One products. Feel free to message me at any time :-)

Hi Marie,
I just came across your post. I understand the lack of money to start up your own business. I was there as well. I am an Independent Demonstrator with Gold Canyon Candles. I have been in the business for 7 months and have already received 3 promotions on top of the extra income! It is not required to have inventory. The start up cost is basically free. You can email me at tricia.metz@goldcanyon.us or visit my website at www.mygc.com/uncommonscents4all When browsing the site, please keep in mind that the kit costs on the website are not accurate due to the July and August promotions we have. I look forward to hearing from you and wish you luck with your endeavor!

Hi Marie,

I always say the products should be able to sell themselves. Look at it like this...you'd rather provide a much needed service/product than SELL a product. If people can relate to you and trust you they'll buy from you. They see you as the expert for whatever you're offering. It sounds like you're on the right track by doing your research. I'd also suggest writing down 3 goals that you want to achieve...either long term or short term. Make them attainable but not too easy. As far as succeeding, get your name out there using every avenue possible. Your local Chamber of Commerce, trade shows and bridal shows could all be great business boosters. My goals were making time for myself, paying off credit card/school debt and buying a brand new car. After doing all my research I decided to do Slumber Parties because it seemed like fun, I liked the products and their overall message of woman empowerment. I've already reached my first goal and have half way completed the second. You just have to choose the opportunity that fits your goals and makes you happy. And don't get discouraged if it isn't easy at first. You've got to put in a little work to be successful at whatever you do!

Absolutely find something that you LOVE! I worked with many different home businesses and it was not until I found something that I could really believe in that I have had success. For me, the things that I like are kind of 'silly', but I love it!
If you can make AT LEAST 25% commission that is something to look into. Also, a web site that your customers are able to purchase the product directly from is a HUGE benefit! One of my businesses allows this kind of shopping and it is very beneficial. You also may want to think about the kind of people that you live close to and who you will be contacting. Are they well off? Middle class income? Etc. Make sure that the products have a fairly large price range. Is there something for $10 along with the $50 items? This will insure that EVERYONE can purchase something no matter where they are at financially. Fundraising is a HUGE thing right now...see if you can find something that either has a fundraising program with the company or make sure that you make enough of a profit that you can offer fundraisers by giving part of your profit back to the organization.

I hope this is somewhat helpful! My websites are following:

You can view the entire catalogs online!

I have been a business owner with FHTM for one year and in that year, have been able to replace a 2 person income. My husband and I do this full time and our company is 9 years old, debt free and international. We live in CA and my husband got laid off from the construction industry on Dec 31, 08 and I was laid off from my sales job in April 09. We were introduced to and started our business June 1st of last year and we have promoted twice and make a 5 figure income monthly that grows each month. If you would like to see what it is that we do, please go to www.lifewithapayplan.com. It has truely changed out life and we are helping other people change theirs.

Find something you love and sell that! I'm a Kaszazz consultant (stamping, scrapbooking and cardmaking) and I joined 2 years ago. Because I love scrapping, it's been very easy for me - and I think that's the big thing - love what you sell & really believe that it's a great product. Most companies have plenty of support for their consultants and there are heaps of websites where you can get ideas.
Best of luck in whatever you choose!

They are right...you need to believe in what you are doing. when You are passionate about what you do, people are going to want what you have! The company I am with is called RELIV. It is a health and wellness company and is a member of the Direct Selling Association. The products are consumable, which is another thing you want to have. It is an international business, with 14 countries to work with. There is endless support from others in this business. Your start up is as low as $40. The products have changed people's lives for the better...they get their health back. With Health Care these days, people are looking for alternatives. These are things that peaked my interest. When you become a product of your product you cannot fail. People will notice and your business will grow. Hope this helps, good luck!

With any business you are looking into be sure to check their rating with the Better Business Bureau as well as The Direct Selling Association. There is nothing better than having your own business with products you really believe in. I work with a direct selling company that I absolutely love!! Message me your e-mail if you are interested in looking at another possibility in your search.

Hi, Marie. Regardless of the product you're selling, the way to get started is to make a list of your friends and family. Then, expand the list to include their friends and family that you know. Once you've signed up with a company, let everyone know. You could even ask them to host a "party" for you in their home, or host your own, and give the guests a chance to browse catalogs and see the products for themselves. You'll also have to talk to the people you come across in your daily life in order to continue growing your business. I've sold art with Artistic Impressions/Elegant Trends, and I'm currently selling Avon (which I LOVE), and the only difference is the product. I hope this helps; if there's ANYTHING else I can do for you, just let me know.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.
