Is it ok to use adult shampoo and conditioner for a 2 year old?

When would you consider using your shampoo and conditioner for your two year old? My daughter has fine hair like mine, I'm currently using JJ's baby shampoo plus conditioner and then put leave-in conditioner in her hair to prevent tangles. It's still a struggle to brush her hair after she sleeps and I was just wondering if my conditioner will be ok to use on her? Any suggestions?

hi kristie,
my daughter is also 2 and a half. i am also a hairstylist...
it fine to use any shampoo and conditioner on your child, with all s&c just make sure it is rinsed well with clean water.esp shampoo because if not rinsed well it can leave residue on sclap leaving it looking flakey and itchy.
your daughter has fine hair?, try this.. when applying conditioner use only a little (maybe the size of a 20p coin) comb it through, then rinse..this is could for tangles.
also get regular hair cuts, just even 1/4 to 1/2 an inch every 3months at least to help thicken her hair and keep it healthy, you will still see her hair will get long.

also another wee tip: mix a little conditioner with water in a spray bottle and use this as a detangler every morning(not to much mind, about 2/3 sprays)it is also great to keep little bugs away!

hope this helps you, all the best..

I mix conditioner in with the baby Shampoo (Pantene), My daughter does have eczema and it does not bother her at all. Makes it so much easier to brush her hair.

I use my conditioner on the length of his hair and not on the scalp. I just find conditioner is a little harder to rinse out than shampoo and i have a hard enough time washing that out of his har without him crying. my son has long slightly below shoulder length curly hair and i found the leave-in stuff doesn't work that well just by itself so i've been doing both and it works great!

I have always used sensitive shapoo and conditioners on my childrens hair. when they were babies up until about a year old I used Johnsons, but I can comb right through my daughters hair with no leave ins, just squirt water on her hair and run a comb through it. My daughter has really fine hair as well.

I've always used my hair products on my daughter's hair making sure to not get it in her eyes. It has always seemed to work better then the children's shampoo lines. I did use one brand on her that she seemed to be sensitive too but no other problems. Doesn't hurt to try. :)

Hi, I asked my hairdresser this question, she said that it really depended on the type of hair she had, she suggested I stick with a children's shampoo for the time being, so if your not sure just nip into your local hairdressers and ask, there a great help. x

yes. I have used Head and Shoulders on my little girl since she was an infant. It got rid of her craddle cap and she has sensitive skin and baby shampoo irritated her. Now she uses my Ausi shampoo.

Yeah of course you can use your shampoo and conditioner on your bady hair. i do all the time. When i rinse i just make sure she has something over her eyes so the soap doesn't get in to them. And it will help with the tangles.

i think its ok to use ur shampoo and conditioner on your childs hair as long as you are careful not to get it in their eyes and they are not sensitive to it, i have used normal shampoo and conditioner on my children for the past year or so they have had no problems

i have been using regualr conditioner omg I guess since she was a year old. I use loreal shampoo for curly hair and then use garnier fructis conditioner.. I have had no problems..

I would apply the conditioner to the length of the hair and keep away from the scalp to avoid any sensitivity. Or simply use a JJ's leave-in creme detangler (teal bottle)...failing that, keep trying some leave-in's and see how she fairs with that. Good luck.

I have used conditioner for my daughter's super curly hair, but if your child has a skin condition such as eczema I would question her pediatrician. I usually pick up Johnson's detangler spray and shampoo based on her hair type. Works great. I pick it up at Wal-mart.
