Cannot remember when I stopped using them with my first son. Is there some sort of dead line? He does use a cup but still enjoys his milk. I am afraid if I take the cup away he will no longer drink milk. That is what happened with the first boy. But he also eats other daiy products.

my 2nd dd has been using normal plastic (bounceable) cups since she was 2yrs, still use the straw bottle or water bottle when we're out in the car to save spillage's. But in restaurants out she drinks out of a glass or sometimes with a straw if they have any. Trip with none sippy cup is to only fill the cup up about a third of the way, less to wipe up if they spill them!!!

He will drink milk, I just threw them all out on night and told him the slippy cup fairy took them to babies and because he is a big boy it wasn't too much of an issue. He only ask for one in the car sometimes but he enjoys a bottle of water which helps Good luck these almost three year olds can be stubborn.

We stopped using sippy cups last fall. The daycare started using regular cups, and I just followed their lead. My son does not have spills very often, since I only fill the cup about half way. He likes to be a "big boy"--and watches the preschoolers at the daycare and tries to be like them. In the car, we use cups with straws. You can try giving regular cups with a little drink while in the bath tub. My older son (he's 16 now) loved that, and he started to use a regular cup when he was 3 yrs old.

i don't see any harm in a sippy cup,it's kinda lkie a securty thing for my son. my oldest had a bottle till he was 3 and my daughter had a paci till she was 3 1/2 and now my 3 year old he still has his baba(sippy cup) and his teddy balnket.I'm sue my last one will be attached to her paci too.if he's not attacted just gradually take it away, or put milk in a cup and water in the sippy.

Both my kids still use sippy cups, and the eldest is 3 in March. She likes to use a proper cup at the table, however, so we keep a variety of straws around to try to minimise the mess.

UK government guidelines say that kids shouldn't use sippy cups for a long time because it encourages them to hold the drink in their mouth longer then necessary (it's the same excuse they use with bottles) which as a consequence means that their teeth are more likely to decay due to the sugars in the drinks, and that they should only be drinking milk and water, squash and juice as an occasional treat. I don't know whether the same thing applies in America.

So I guess there's a good reason behind moving them on to cups, but most children around our ones age, unless they've used normal cups for a long long time will just play with it and make a mess... so mats are advised, and lots of showing them what to do and how to do it is always a good idea

My son is going to be three in March and uses a sippy cup when we travel, but I have him use a regular cupat home know and have a few cups with straws. You will have some spills, but will lessen as times goes by.

I only use a sippy cup in the car or sometimes if he wants something to drink while he plays in his room. But 90% of the time it is a regular cup. He still makes messes just because he does not pay attention. I think I will continue this for a while. I have been having problems switching to the sippy cups with the straw. He still tips the cup then he can not get anything out of the stray, it really frustrats him!

I've just started taking sippy cups away in the last few days.....mainly because they've been so easy for me :) My almost three year old is excited to use a "big boy cup" and we haven't had any issues. If anything he's driking more because he likes using his new cups so much! We're still using the sippy when we're out of the house but I plan on having them completely gone by his birthday in March.

Just curious...Is there a reason you want to stop using them? I've never hear of any negative results from using sippy cups (teeth etc.). Anyone else?

We are going to stop at 3 unless we are in the car and we will only use a strawa cup in that case.

hi I still use a sippie or straw cup with my 4yr old just so that there is less mess if the cup gets knocked over. I know she can use a normal cup but what a mess if it gets knocked over.

I have not stopped using the sippy totally, I still use it when my toddler is not at the table. She started using a regular cup at the table by 13 months. You could try a straw cup for milk to transition.
