My daughter has random rash break-outs, mostly on her legs, which she, sadly, got from me-I have sensitive skin. She scratches at it a lot. Here's everything we've tried so far to help her break-outs: Melaleuca 'renew' lotion, Aveno cream, 'oat' baths, all store brand lotions. We need new ideas to help her skin. Right now it's the worst i've ever seen it (it tends to get worse in times where she's teething). Please Help :)

My niece has severe exema and nothing worked for a long time but one thing that helped was dove sensiitve skin soap and when she got out of the bath they didn't wipe her dry. They patted her down a little bit and let her air dry... Don't know why it helped but it did...maybe it's worth a shot.

I have exema I use extra strength gold bond lotion. It has worked for my 21 mo old daughter to but I only use it on her when she breaks out really bad. Lotion with shea butter ususally helps unless she breaks out really bad.

You all should become Melaleuca customers. I'm not trying to make money off of anyone- just want to help. If you could completely eliminate your childs eczema just by switching where you shop, wouldn't it be worth it? It was for me. My daughter scratched her feet until she bled and cried and cried and it broke my heart. God bless Melaleuca, renew lotion, the laundry soap, cleaning products and bath and body products that gave us our life back. Let me know if I can help. And hey- if it doesn't work for you then you can get a full refund. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Sincerely,
Krissi

well, my doctor said to switch to dove deep moisture for the body wash (even baby body wash is not that great for it) and I went ahead and switched to dove shampoo with conditioner (she even had dry scalp this year). then for the breakouts use vaseline (cheap and works the best) petroleum jelly, if she is scratching use the 1% cordizone (not sure of the spelling - the anti itch stuff) until she stops scratching. that should do it.

hi, my 10 year old son can get it really badly and is alergic to most of the products designed to help. we now get double base on prescription, which is a cooling lotion, and he has had a tubifast 2 piece suit to wear at night to protect him from scratching and help heal his skin, also on precription. look out for preservatives in products, the shorter the ingredients list the better, as far as my son is concerned. i really hope you find something that helps, it's horrid when they're suffering and nothing seems to work

Quoting Connie:

Both my kids have eczema, here's what we do.
I bathe them only 2-3x a week
Lotion them up real good with Aveeno baby
Use a vaporizer in their room at night
Use soft, loose clothing, no wool
Lotion them up whenever I think of it LOL about 5x a day
This has helped

sorry found your reply useful  my son born 31609 has excema but in only outbreaks every so often

we have only bath every other day  just depends on the days duties!

I was told not to towel dry him just to pat and then lather up with lotion!  which seems to work wonders!

I might do the vaporizer(did you see a difference?????)

my sons HEAD is sooo bad if i keep his hair short I can lather it up with lotion but I dont like short hair in the winter any ideas on that????

I have had eczema all of my youth and it can be a difficult thing to deal with. One of the hardest things is to figure out what aggrevates it and what doesn't. I find that it is generally seasonal and starts up when it starts getting cold outside, at least for me it did. I would recommend not using anything at all in her bath just warm water and keep her baths short. Anything can irritate her skin when it is already inflammed and when she is soaking in water her skin is more likely to take up any types of chemicals that are in the products she is sitting in. A hydrocortosone cream would definitely help but I would try the smallest percent available over the counter and use it twice a day for no more than 2weeks at a time because it thins the skin out over time. Also I have found that your body gets used to it so starting out the lowest is best. Unfortunately there are only a few body lotions that the dermatologist recommend using for eczema and none of them have nice smells they are just very greasy but they do work. I have found that aquaphillic and cetaphil are the best and they go a long way. Use the lotion all the time and it helps form a moisture barrier it really does help. If it has starting cracking too much you may want to have someone look at it because if it gets really cracked and sore it can get an infection in it and that will obviously make it worse. I also have a hard time not scratching mine too but you could try putting the Vaseline or Bag balm or the aquaphillic lotion on it and then cutting the end of a sock off and sliding it up her leg to cover the area so she can't scratch it anymore. I hope it gets better soon poor baby it really is not fun to deal with!

Try Vaseline Cream.. not lotion.. I think the jar says Vaseline Cream White.. it's a little bit greasy but I had to use it on my son's back and bum bec it was so bad.. almost bleeding.. the pediatrician told us to try it.. it's in a round jar.. not a tube or bottle.. should be easy to find.. and it's by far the cheapest one.. I found ours at Shoppers.. I don't know if you have one where you are but try looking around for that cream and let us know how she does with her rash breakouts.. should work.. worked like magic.. I was told to switch his body wash as well.. to Dove Sensitive and advised me not to use libredurm unscented.. told me to use vaseline cream.... I don't bathe him every day as well to keep his skin moist.. he gets his skin from momma... momma has breakouts occasionally as well. I tried the vaseline and it worked for me..

Hi there.Does she have atopic or seborrheic eczema?

If it is atopic, try to bath her in rooibos tea.Rooibos is a natural anti inflametory product and it will take some of the itchyness away as well.Just put 1-2 bags in her bath water a day.Dab the rooibos tea directly on the inflamed area if neccessary.Apply Natura Vitamin E cream 3 times a day.If your perhaps formula feeding, change to special allergy formula.Cow milk and even soya milk can cause eczema.Diary and grain products are also big triggers for eczema.Perhaps change your baby cereal as well.Try to bath her with soap free, purfume free products and avoid bubble baths...sad but true.

Then there is a whole list of additives that can also cause rashes.Try to avoid these :

E621 MSG

E622 Monpotassium glutamate

E102 Tatrazine

E104 Quinoline Yellow

E110 Sunset Yellow

E122 Carmoisine

E124 Cochneal Red

E129 Allura Red

E133 Brilliant Blue

E951 Aspastame

E211 Sodium Benzoate

E220 Sulphur Dioxide

Goodluck!!!Hope it will help.Try to to the above yourself as well.

well for the itching try calomine lotion, for the break outs, have you taken her to the pedi?

When my son had eczema my doctor prescribed hydrocortisone. It's now all gone. My mother told me that she read somewhere cinnamon and honey (on the eczema) works well, and I think also taking a spoonful orally.

My son has random exema break outs too. Hydrocortozone cream clears it up fast. I got 2.5% perscription strength from his pediatrician. I just apply it to the spots. You also should use Lubriderm unsented lotion for sensitive skin twice a day or other lotion to make sure her skin stays hydrated.

We have the same problem with my daughter born in March, 2008. I have tried many creams and ointments too. So far the only thing that temporarily helps is hydrocortisone prescribed from the Dr. Her legs have bright red patches all over and her arms too. She is so itchy all of the time and lotions tend to make it worse. I am struggling with it just as you are. I keep saying I need to take her to the dermatologist soon, but then the hydrocortisone starts working... If you hear of a cure all, let me know!! Thanks:)

My daughter has mild eczema, and I found that switching her body wash was the only way to get a handle on it. I tried Aveeno baby oatmeal bath, all the popular brands "sensitive skin" formulas, and she still had scaly patches on her back and arms and thighs. I finally tried Dr. Bronner's All-in-One Castile soap (sold in Target now!! also health food stores and some supermarkets with natural food sections) and it is so much better now. I recently ran out and used a different "mild" baby soap, and the patchy, rough skin came back. We use lotion after every bath too, and don't bathe her every day unless she really needs it! Just look out for any baby wash or lotions that contains alcohol. Why they put that in "moisturizing" body wash or baby lotion is beyond me, but it's more common than you'd imagine! Good luck!

I know what you're going through. Since my son was around 5 months old and until about a month ago at a year and a half he has had REALLY bad eczema. Nothing over the counter worked for us. We went to a dermatologist for him and she gave us some cream to put on twice a day, which does help keep it under control so he doesn't scratch. There really isn't a 'cure', you can only treat the symptoms. Call your ped. or a derm. and make an appointment. One other thing that helped is using a humidifier at night turned up to high. It made the room a lot more moist and kept his skin from drying up more. Hope that helps!

My daughter had problems with exema as well. From the time she was an infant, we tried every thing. She would get it mainly at the elbows, knees, with patches that would flair up other places. We eventually had to get a mild prescription steroid ointment that we applied to the break-outs. It was called Hydrocortisone Valerate Cream, which we used in very small amounts. Once we got it under control, we have been able to treat it aveeno lotion (dark blue cap) which we now use every night on both of our kids. She now only has occasionally break-outs which we use a 1/2 % hydrocortisone on. We also limited her baths in the winter time to try not to dry her skin out more. I'm not big on using tons of medicine especially steriods but this was the only thing we found that helped her.
