instead of the bottle or cup you could try giving him a book or teddy to replace it with

My son is the same way, he will be 2 next month and is up at least 2 or 3 times during the night to ask for something to drink. I know a few mom's have told me to just tell him no and send him back to sleep but this results in a tantrum at 3am and I live in an appartment with neighbors that seam to have never been abround a child. I need help with this one too, any good suggestions you could throw my way?

you're not alone...my boy used to sleep through the night and all of a sudden the past 6 months he wakes up 1-3 times a night asking for his "bobble"...with milk, its the only thing he won't take in a cup....its been a constant battle...I'm hoping to get rid of it cold turkey by this birthday!
good luck hope it all works out :)

My son was 14 months before he was sleeping through the night. I realized that it was my fault because I kept giving him a bottle when he would wake up. Finally, I decided it was time to stop! So one night, I didn't give him a bottle. Yes, he cried for a while. But after that first night, he started to sleep through the night! He does still wake up from time to time (last night being the most recent). But I just go into his room and lay him back down and he (generally) goes right back to sleep. So, stop giving him his bottle/cup at night. It will be one hell of a night (or more) when you choose to do it, but it should work!

Thanx for your answers, the only thing is he throws one hell of a fit when you don't give him the cup, coz he wakes up screaming.

yah, stop giving it to him. it'll be a crappy week but it'll be so worth it once he breaks that habit!!

Stop giving it to him when he wakes up, just put him back in his bed. It will take awhile but it will work :)

Even though he didn't have a dummy the bottle and drinking cup have been the subsitute so you will need to look at this the same way as you would getting rid of the dummy... My son is the same and i am not fussing with the getting rid of it too much while we are having really hot days during summer.. but once it starts to cool it will be cold turkey for him and will just not give it to him... his is in a no spill cup that stays in his bed with it so will go with the drink in the big boy cup before bed and then nothing after that.. will also be getting rid of all the sippy cups so there is no temptation.. Good Luck
