At what age did you let your child start sleeping with a pillow?

both my children had pillows at around 1.5/2 whne they started wanting cuddly toys in bed and using them as a pillow. I would be cautious if your child sleeps face down though as they wil do the same with a pillow so I only introduced it when they started lying flat and not on theirs knees (if that makes sense). Hope this helps.

My son has been sleeping with a pillow, comforter, blanket & stuffed animals since just before he turned 2 yrs old. At this age they know when to move if they are sleeping in a way that restricts breathing and things of that nature. But it also depends on what kind of pillow you are allowing her to sleep with. If its a fuzzy pillow with loose strings and such I would recommend against it... Just cause its a choking hazard for them. I would recommend the 'Comfort Baby' pillow from Toys R Us. Its affordable and very soft and my son loves it. He refuses to sleep without it. Its also very supportive for their head and neck.

Hi. My name is Lili and I'm new to the board. My two year old daughter has been sleeping with a pillow since she was about 1 year old. She has always been a picky sleeper and the pillow helped. :o) She has never had any issues with it. I think your daughter will be fine.

I bought my son a toddler pillow when he moved into a toddler bed. However, he has been using mine when he sleeps in bed with me. I read somewhere that it's a suffocation hazard and shouldn't be offered until he's older but he's fine.

I gave my son a pillow when he was about a year! I was so scared to with him rolling over, but I gave him one that we had for awhile so it was flatter than a new one. We never had an issue with it and he loves to snuggle up on his pillow and sleep to this day still : )
I spoke to my Chiropractor about it and he said that there isn't really a right or wrong age because we actually don't ever really need a pillow. He also said that at this age it is more a comfort thing than a support issue so just make sure it is quite thin and it won't do any harm. As they get older trade it for one that suits the height of their neck and firmer is better than softer.

I just got a child sized pillow for my son this week (he's almost 26 months). I thought it might help him sleep better, being more comfortable, but so far he hasn't even used it! He usually ends up snuggling on top of his blanket. He's also still in his crib and he moves around a lot so it probably doesn't make a difference to him yet.

My first had a pillow about 18 months and my second had a pillow at 6 months (under the sheet) due to reflux problems - they both love their pillows - everyone is different and hey anyone will try anything for a good night sleep!

my daughter started sleeping on one since she was 2y4m old. She had an ear infection at the time and we thought it might help her sleep better.
she likes the pillow, but 2 disadvantages:
-daycare beds didnt have pillows. Big fight, when she had to sleep there because she insisted on sleeping on a pillow.
- she uses only 2/3 of the crib. Start sleeping on the pillow but wriggles during the night until her head is next to the pillow. So we had to buy her a big bed because she doesnt fit into the 2/3 crib anymore

hi my son is 2 yrs old and i brought him a duvet and pillow cos he is in a bed now and i was like u did'nt know when the right time to give him a pillow was so i just decided it was time for him to have a proper big boys bed spread, as the little cover i had over him at night was no longer enough to keep him warm and he sleeps better at night now.
I think now that they r that bit older it is ok to give them a pillow hope that has helped you

My son has been sleeping with a pillow for a while now. I gave him one to sleep with when he was sick (so he can breath better)...then I just never took it away. Hes in a toddler bed now too so I think by 2 years old they are ready!
