cough and cold remedies

Boil some fresh or dries rosemary on the stove and then do a craft in the kitchen... supposed to clear up congestion.

If you aren't opposed to vapor rub, but don't want it on the child's chest... you can also rub it on their feet and put socks on over that... it's a really odd remedy that kinda works. I've done it several times on mine.

When my daughter has a cough what we usually do is take a full onion and cut in up or just in half, place it in a bowl and put in under her bed when she goes to sleep. It does make the room smell like onion, but in my opinion, it works and I would rather her room smelling like onions for the night then her on different medications.

My son has also been very sick on and off last 2 months i have had him in hospital with fevers and convulsions and all the say is its viral. I give him everyday since then from the health shop the immune system booster its just a liqued and when he gets sick there is also stuff in nz called kiwi crush in the frozen section like hydralites.

I have been using a homeopathic cough syrup called phyto tux. I also have been giving both my kids a mulitvitamin, vitamin c, vitamin d and omega 3&6 daily. This has helped my kids have not been sick all winter. They are 2 and 9. Hope this helps a bit.

My two year old has a horrible case of daycare germs and she's had a cough for weeks. We're not a fan of medicating children unless necessary and neither is our daughter. He always encourages people, especially with very young children to just use natural remedies and let it run it's course. However, I will say that I found a new gem of a non-drug safe for children. If you go to any pharmacy / grocery store they should sell one of the variations of this honey based medicine that's good for a cough. It's all natural and there's no actual medication in it so it's ok to use on young children. Little Remedies makes one of them, but there's some other brands too. Off the top of my head I can't remember what the one we bought is called but it's a combo of honey, oatmeal and banana. Within a day her cough has almost subsided to nothing and we only give it to her in the morning and night. It worked so well on her I took a couple hits myself for my annoying cough (that I think she gave me) and feel a LOT better. It's a sweet tasting syrup so I had no problem giving it to my daughter. He said he found it in the organic section. Maybe try that....
