Ferber Method

So I finally started using the Ferber method after one night of my baby waking up almost every hour. Before that, I had to get up 1-3 times a night to pop back in his soother or pat his back a few times.

We're on day 4 and night time sleep is a lot better. He feel asleep after about 20 mins of crying last night. He woke up crying once in the middle of the night and put himself back to sleep. My huge problem is with naps!! He won't nap during the day in his crib!! Yesterday, he only napped 20 mins the entire day after falling asleep in his highchair during lunch (poor boy!!). I give him about 45 mins to let him soothe himself (the book says 1/2hr, but I so really need him to sleep) He also has a cold now, I guessing from the lack of sleep so today after letting him cry for 45 mins in his crib, I held him till he fell alseep, then put him back down in his crib.

Anyone else do the Ferber Method and have this much trouble with napping?? Any advice??

Also, he freaks out even when we go near his crib now. Is that normal till he gets used to putting himself to sleep? He's also super clingy now and wants to be carried everywhere!! I can't even leave the room for a second without him starting to cry and crawl after me! I hope this isn't going to scar him!!!!!

I did the CIO but didn't use the Ferber method.  I tried it but everytime I would go back into the room it just made it worse.  So basically I had to let him cry until he would just go to sleep.  I felt bad but it was only the first couple of days and now he is sleeping like a champion.  I felt I had to do it that way because he was getting next to no sleep and was not a happy baby.

The Ferber method worked wonders for us. Although when my son is sick or teething all that goes out the window and i pretty much have to ferberize him all over again. He only had troubles with napping when he learned to crawl and stand in his crib and i would just leave him in there because i knew he wanted a nap and eventually all that stopped.  He was super clingy as well but i think that was also a phase because hes not like that anymore unless hes really tired.
