just wondering how many hours of sleep your almost 2 year old is getting at night? my little boy used to sleep 11-12 hours thru the night, but in the past 2 weeks or so, he's only been sleeping about 10.5 hours (from 9pm till 7:30am). i've tried putting him to sleep earlier, but if he manages to fall asleep 1/2 hour earlier, he just ends up waking earlier. just wondering if this is an average amount of sleep? he naps 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon as well.

9p-7:30a is a great 10.5 hours of sleep and if he still takes naps during the day it's plenty ... girl don't you even be complaining cause mine is gonna be 2 at the end of March and she sleeps ONLY 8 HOURS at night! (usual 9pm-5am) and maybe 1-2 hours during the day for her nap. If we keep her up all day without naps she falls asleep at 6pm and wakes up at 10pm then 12am and then finally at 5am! It's rediculous, I'm about to throw in the towel on that subject cause we're definitely aren't lucky in that department ... BE GLAD he sleeps that long for you =)

I think that all is well with that. My almost 2 year old does the same thing for the afternoon nap and sometimes we can't get him to take a nap at all.I have found that if I need him to sleep longer in the morning then his nap time is shorter. I have found too if I keep my little guy up a little longer at night then he will sleep a little longer in the morning. This is what all three of my boys have done at about this age. I don't think that there is anything to worrie. I hope this helps

my son is nearly 2, and he doesnt sleep well at all. we put him to bed at 7pm, but he wakes up about 5 times a night for a juice. he naps for 2 hours a day and wakes me up at 6, sometimes earlier. his health visitor is trying to help us, she said that, he needs his nap so he'll sleep more at night. i really wish he'd sleep all night so my boyfriend would come to bed earlier than 5am!

I believe the average is 11-12. My little man sleeps from 7-6:30 most days of the week. He shocked us the other morning by sleeping til 8:30. most days he only takes one nap that lasts right around 2 hours.

yah i don't plan on taking away his nap yet. if he's still napping 1.5hours, i think he needs the sleep. i'm just being lazy cuz i liked his previous 8:30-9am wakeup time!! but i can't really complain with his new 7:30-8am wakeup time. for like 4 or 5 months, he was getting up every morning at 6am. that sucked.

It sounds ok to me - does he seem tired or cranky during the day? My girls (twins) are usually in bed by 7:30 and wake around 7 but some nights it takes them longer to get to sleep than others. Their naps go anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours and on the rare day none.
I certainly wouldn't take away his nap until he seems ready though.

My baby only sleeps about 9 hours at night - from about 20:30 - 6:00 in the morning. Sometimes he is already up at 5:00.

10-11 hours of broken sleep is what my son gets. My girls were sleeping 12 hours straight at the same age though.

Oh my goodness, just reading your posts makes me wonder about my own son. He is almost 2, and just doesnt seem to need much sleep. Im lucky if he sleeps 5 hours at night, and am in Heaven if he sleeps more. He naps for about 2 hrs in the afternoon. I finally gave in and bought him a twin size bed, and put it in his room. When he gets up, I have to go sleep in his room, and he will play in there with the door shut for a couple of hrs before I wake up. It is exhausting!

he goes down at 930 and will sleep till 730-830 most days. and then takes a 2-3 hour nap everyday. but if your little one is teething it will throw everything off.

Yes, it's normal! My son usually sleeps anywhere between 10-12 hours a night. There are some times when he gets less. That's usually during a time where we've had something really big to do. (Like last night was a surprise party for my mom and aunt who turned 50. Or if we're traveling.) And just like you, I can't put him to sleep earlier. I have also found that if I put him to bed later, he just wakes up earlier!!! This is bad, as you can imagine! He was waking up very early (between 5 and 6am) for about a week or so not too long ago. My husband and I think it might have been more teething or another growth spurt. Things like that can have an effect too.

He might be ready to start dropping his afternnon nap (although that's probably the last thing you want to hear I'm sure).

My daughter only ever slept about 10.5 hours at night until she dropped her afternoon sleep and now she does 12 - 13.

My son sleeps an average of 12 hours a night, sometimes 13. He naps anywhere from 2-3 hours in the afternoon. Hope your little man starts sleeping a little later for you =)
