my daughter is just over 15 months. the doctor recently switched her to soy milk due to lactose intolerance i was just wondering if anyone knows about how much milk she should be drinking in a day. i also have a 4 year old and i know she is supposed to have 16 oz a day so i am assuming my 15 month old should be getting a little more than that! right now she is getting about 26 oz a day!

When I took our daughter to her one year checkup, our doctor told us that she shouldn't be getting more then 16 oz of milk a day. The rest of her calories should come from food. I know that every doctor is different though! Good luck!

I had this same exact question, and just got back from my sons 15 month checkup. My pediatrician recommends 16 ounces at this age. She mentioned that it will go back up to 24 ounces when he is three. She stated that if babies at this age get too much milk, they can actually get enemic (sp?).

My daughter is just about 16 months old too and she drink 26 oz of milk a day. I think what you are doing is just fine. If she doesn't finish the soy milk in her sippy cup just put it back in the fridge.

thanks!

was also wondering if anyone else out there has to warm up the milk for their kids? brianna has a thing about everything having to be warm!!!!

26 ounces sounds about right- my son loves milk too! He is also lactose intolerant and is on lactose free whole milk which might be an option for you as well. I think it might have more fat than some soy milk which is good for their brain right now. =)

i tried lactaid whole milk but she was still throwing up. when the doctor said it sounds like she is lactose intolerant i told him i tried lactaid so i didn't think that was the problem but he said in most cases lactaid doesn't work. i guess it depends on the severity of the lactose intolerance!!! he also told me that soy milk is actually healthier than cows milk because it has alot of b vitamins and omega 3's like the dha and ara they add to the formulas now.

i dont hink that they need that much after a year as long as they get alot of calcium in their diet. from a year my eldest only had about 8oz of cows milk at bed time and she was fine with that. i still breastfeed my youngest who is 15 months and she feeds morning and night andf ocasionaly a quick one in the afternoon.

i would say that 26oz sounds like alot iw think that 16oz sounds more like it.

I am not sure how much she is suppose to have but Kinsey is 16 months and is drinking anywhere between 18 - 24 ounces a day. That is just all she will drink and she is on Silk too! Never could handle milk protein.
