At what point did you start introducing regular food vs. jar baby food into your childs diet? What foods did you start with? My son just turned 11 months old, and so far the only non baby food that I've given him has been fruit/veggies.

My son is almost 11 months old and has been eating regular food for a few months. He hates jarred baby foods, even the fruits. He won't even eat baby cereal anymore. Actually, I just think he likes to feed himself. The only thing I can feed him from a spoon is yogart. He LOVES his fruits -- I give him pieces of mandarin oranges, bits of apples, bananas, cut up grapes. He eats chopped up chicken, noodles/pasta, eggs (he's fine with whites), peas, tomoates, toast with jam etc. He isn't much of a meal food baby, though maybe I might have to start insisting he eats it?? Usually, I'll just give him small bits of whatever I'm eating. He loves eating baby snacks: Gerber Graduate Lil' Crunchies and freeze dried fruit bits are his fave.

My son is 11 months and has just started on solid (non-babyfood) foods. He only four teeth, so I didn't want to start him until he started to get a few more. He will eat peas and well-cooked cut up carrots, apples, pears, green beans, pasta, avocado, chicken . . . I've been adding in new foods once a week. It usually takes him a few times before he really enjoys it though.

My son is 11 months today and he's been eating lots of regular food for months now. There are a few things that should be avoided until at least one year - honey, egg whites, cow's milk as a drink and high risk allergy foods (nuts, chocolate, strawberries) if there are any known allergies in your famiiies.  When I took him for his 6-month checkp-up our doctor said to start with orange/yellow vegetables and infant cereal then go from there.  He hasn't eaten anything pureed in months he doesn't like bottled baby food, he'd much rather regular food.  At his 9-month check-up I told our doctor that he eats pretty well everything and the only cautionary note she gave me was to be sure not to give him anything hard (choking hazard) and i always cut things up well for him.  He still starts his day with baby cereal (though the one for 8mos+ now) with bananas mashed into it and nurses about four times a day.  He's healthy, about 25lbs (I can never remember his length but he's at least 2ft tall), he's always been around the 90th or 95th percentile.
