My son is 2 and toilet training. I have noticed that instead of pushing at first for a wee and wee streaming out, he is having 6-7 (or more) goes, sometimes seeming to push really hard for a little wee.
I am concerened about this, as it doesnt seem normal to me :( Is anybody else's boys (or girls) doing this??

He shouldn't have to push at all. If the connection is made between the full bladder feeling and the idea that he needs to go to the toilet then the rest should follow and when he sits then the muscles should relax and the wee should "stream out" as you said. It may be that he has the idea of what is supposed to happen on the toilet but hasn't made that neuro connection of the "full bladder" feeling yet and so doesn't actually have a full bladder and is trying to "force" it because something is "supposed" to happen when you are on the toilet.

If he continues to force it, he could actually do some damage (UTI's etc) so I would stop that. Put him on the toilet when he thinks he needs to go and only keep him there for a short period of time. Tell him not to push and maybe sing a nursery rhyme to distract him. If nothing has happened by the end of the song pop him off and try again later.

He is still training and there is actually a set of neurons that have to connect properly for all the steps to work so just give him some time.
