My daughter isn't walking yet. She hasn't even pulled herself up to her feet yet. Is anyone else in the same boat?

If she isn't pulling herself up yet, I would ask your doctor to check her feet for over-sensitivity. A co-worker of mine had a little girl who was almost 2 and still not walking or standing. She would crawl and scoot on her behind but that was it. Turns out the nerves on the bottoms of her feet were just ultra-sensitive, so standing for the poor little one was painful. In every other way, she was completely normal, but I know my co-worker was a little embarrassed that he and his wife let it go on as long as they had. (Too much listening to the "every child develops differently" lines.)

Every child DOES develop differently, but there are averages on milestones for a reason. If you really think something might be off, get it checked.

Oh, and by the way, my co-workers daughter got her sensitive-feet situation taken care of with a minor procedure in the doctors' office and was walking a week later and running a week after that.

Good luck!

Every kid is different. My husband didn't walk until he was 18 months!! And he's perfectly fine now. My baby is 10 months and he's pulling himself up and cruising around, but I hear things get a lot crazier once they start walking so I'm not in a rush!

I think with every baby it's different. My son Miller just turned 11 months old and he's walking completely on his own. He's even started running in the past few weeks. He didn't start crawling until 7 months, then started pulling himself up straight after that. At 9 & a half months he took his first steps on his own. I have a friend though whose baby didn't start walking until 15 months and he is perfectly fine. Each is different. Enjoy it while they can't walk!!!!

yes..my son hasn't started walking yet either.  He's trying to pull himself up.  I guess all babies walk when they want.

If your really anxious to get her moving, it's just a matter of encouragement and she will do the rest when she is ready. Just give her more opportunities to pull herself up, such as helping her pull up with your fingers or putting a toy just above her and encouraging her to reach for it, or putting her hands on the edge of a chair while she is sitting down and encourage her to pull herself up while pushing up on her bottom. Also if she wants to move badly enough she will figure it out as long as she is given the chance.

my daughter is 11 months now and is walking around the furniture and is using a push along walker with ease but has not yet got the confidence up to let go. her cousin who is 7months older has only just started to take a few steps alone so i would not worry. i know of 18month olds who are not walking yet. is your daughter's language development high as doctors say they tend to develope strenghts in different areas at different times rather than all at once

My son isnt walking either, only been crawling for about a month now anyways. I am happy the way he is, everything at his own pace. I know when he can walk, I am going to be running circles around him. They're too fast even when they crawl!!

My son is 10 months and is walking around on his own(and of course is into everything). He started cruising at Christmas and by the New Year he was off and almost running!!! But everyone who sees him is amazed that he is walking already, so I wouldn't worry that your daughter isn't walking yet. Once she starts walking you'll be wanting her to sit still for even a second.

Don't feel bad, my son is 10 1/2 months and shows no interest in even crawling! He is a really big baby and at his 9 month visit, my doctor said not to worry about it, that some babies are just more laid back than others and are happy right where they are. We work with him every day, and encourage him to crawl (laying on his stomach, putting toys out of his reach), but he just rolls over onto his back and starts laughing....I guess he will crawl when he is ready. The doctor even said that some babies never really crawl and go straight to walking. (We bought him a walker and he cruises around in that pretty good, so if I were you, I wouldn't let it bother you too much right now, just enjoy the time you have with your daughter while she is still not too mobile. :-)

My son cruises, but he doesn't seem ready to walk alone yet. He briefly lets go of whatever he's holding onto, but he doesn't take free steps. I know he'll do it in his own time.

What helped my son learn to pull up and cruise was spending time in his playpen, and also using his FP Crawl and Cruise Jungle.

At 10 months - I wouldn't worry about it yet.  All babies develop at a different rate.  Mine can pull herself up and will try walking while holding our hands, but I also know plenty of other moms whose child didn't start moving around a lot until they were at least a year old.

This just goes to show you that every child is different. I have 11 month old boy/girl twins and the boy has been pulling himself up on furnitere and taking a few steps for just over a month now and his sister doesn't want anything to do with standing. It was the same when they started crawling he was 6 months she was 9 months. One thing I have learned from having two at the same time is that you should never compair them to each other or other children of the same age. Your daughter will develope at her own pace. If you are really concerned you can get her checked out but the doctor will probably say the same thing as me.

Well, 10 months is early.  Anywhere from 9-14 months is the expected time for walking.  My son stands on his own, but has yet to take a step!

My friends daughter is 12 months in a week and she will not even let you put her in a standing possition!  As soon as you pick her up she puts her legs out for the "pick up" possition.

My other friend's son didn't walk until 18 months!!!!!!!!  She really thought there was something wrong with his legs, but it turned out, he was just really, really, REALLY lazy.

My Marchie will pull up and cruise but will not even try walking on her own. When we try to get her to walk while holding our hands she sits straight down. My oldest who is 2 did the same thing. And she started walking at almost 15 months. But like someone else said once she started she just took off!

My daughter pulls herself up and walks around furniture or walks when holding both of our hands (she will not move if she only has one of your hands though). And just the last couple weeks shes started standing on her own. I was really worried about her cause my oldest was walking perfectly on her own at 8 months. We asked her doctor, and like everyone has said here, he told us she'll do it when shes good and ready and not a minute before.

My son is just about walking, walks when we hold his hands, stands on his own for a couple seconds etc... but every child is different I have a friend who's daughter didn't take that first step until she was 14 months old, so don't worry about it. It's going to happen sooner than you think, and then Watch out, everything goes Up and out of reach!! lol
