My son is almost 14 months and I would say he is taking steps - not walking yet. I found that if I sit in front of him and let him walk to me it works best. I'll reach my arms out so he almost reach them and then slowly move them as he gets closer. He'll take 4 or 5 steps at a time without walking.

my son was walking holding on to the coffee table at 8 months and did not walk on his own until 11 months...you could try sitting on the floor with someone else and let him walk between you two . good luck! :)

Taking steps.... Not walking yet. I reckon it's fine that he wants to hold your hand, he'll be off and independant in no time!

My daughter has been walking on her own since december, throughout Nov. she was also scared to let go. I tied a scarf to my belt loop and would hold that between our hands, she got used to that and would hold that without my hand being there then one day she just let go and took off on her own

Walking holding hands, (told by pedi) still cruising, and that when they walk alone it is because their balance has improved enough to not feel the need to old onto something..
Likewise William cruised from about 7 months but didn't start walking by himself until 10 months.
It's not abnormal for a child to not walk unassisted until 18 months...

Mine cruises all over the furniture and will stand on his own for a couple of seconds but no walking yet. I wouldn't worry, my pediatrician said wether they start a 9 months or 18 months it is perfectly in the normal range.

My little guy just turned 1 on the 21st. He started walking a few steps only a couple weeks before his birthday, but mostly he would hold my hand or onto furniture. It wasn't until the last day or so that he has built confidence enough to walk on his own more than just a few steps. I think it just takes time for them to realize they can do it! Keep encouraging him and helping him when he needs it, eventually he'll gain the confidence he needs.

My son turned 1 on the 28th. He's taken one step forward and fallen. He motors like a pro while holding things or having my hands. I figure he'll go when he goes, just lots of encouragement and practice makes perfect.

my daughter Chloe started walking @ 10months now she's unstoppable!!! I started by holding 1 hand then letting go or holding her wrist. She had quite a few tumbles but once she got the confidence she was off & running! Remeber practise makes perfect so just keep at it & he'll be walking before u know it ;)

Landyn isn't walking yet. He will walk if I hold his hands. He is so scared he won't even stand by himself..he has to hold on to things. My girls were both walking by 9 months old and so I was suprised that he isn't walking yet. I'm sure he'll walk soon. 15 months is the normal time what my doctor said anyway. He'll go when he's ready.

My daughter Savannah took her very first steps on Christmas day but then was afraid to try again for a few weeks. She started walking officially at about 10 1/2 months and runs now! We did a lot of walking holding hands before she became comfortable enough to walk or her own, and she still has a lot of spills because she is clumsy like her mother!

They all start at different ages. Our daughter started the day she turned 9 months, now she's less than a week under 1 yr., and she is into everything, and starting to climb! Let them go at their own pace, it gets harder once they start walking because they get into everything!!

dont fret - as long as theyv started by 18months its fine... my son was a little scared as well - he was walking agingst furniture since before 9 months and took his first step wen he was bout 11months but then got scared or only walked wen he was excited or distracted... i used to walk behing him holding his hands or his dad and i would let him walk btwn us... his confidence grew very quickly and he now almost runs he walks so fast or gets so ecited he doesnt look where hes going - he now is over confident in his walking... dont fret, itl come

hello, my son just started walking as well. i usually let him hold on to something in his hands, so he is little distracted. i also would walk fast with him and let him go, but stay close enough so you can catch him if he is going to fall. This way he would take few steps before realizing that i am not holding him.

My son started walking at 11 mths. He is pretty much keeping me on my toes now. I would try one of the standup push walkers. My son loved it. I wouldn't worry to much about him walking and holding on to you fingers. Pretty soon you will be wishing he would hold your hand. : )

My daughter took her first steps in Jan/Feb time, but wouldn't totally take off on her own until abuot four weeks ago. I used our walker which gave her some confidence and I think it helped her leg strength, then after she'd get out she'd just want to walk so she started to. I hope that helps a little.

My girls have both taken steps but no more than a few. I am not pushing them to walk -- I am letting them do it when they are ready.
they have a few toys they can push which is super cute to watch!

The way i got my son to walk is to hold something that he likes, then have your husband hold him on the ground until he is steady and has his balace, then he should do it, but mostly he will do it when he is ready!

yeah my baby girl was walking like a pro at 11 months. now my other two were atleast a few weeks past thier first birthday. you can try holding spoons, let your child hold onto those and when they get going let go of the spoons. same concept as teaching a child to ride a bike. more importantly just have patience he will go when he is ready
