Walking yet?

My son is almost 14 months old and EVERYONE is asking me "Is he walking yet?". He creeps along furniture, walks holding onto my hands, and stands once in a while by himself. I was hoping there are other babies out there that took their time learning to walk.

My son starting walking at 13 months, my daughter also at 13 months but my middle child, son, didn't start walking until he was 15 months old and we had to practice with him daily to get him to take those first few steps. There is nothing wrong with your child! It may take him or her until they are 15-17 months old to walk well and there is nothing wrong with that. I read a research paper once that said that babies who crawl, creep, etc. longer are better readers, don't know how true that is but it made me feel better and more positive with my older son. He now loves, loves books and is starting to learn how to read and just turned 4 a couple of days ago. Give your little ones some time and they will accomplish that wonderful milestone of walking and don't worry about what others says, it's not their child!

i dn't think thats true about girls being faster, my son was nine months when he started walking probably and no girl babies at his baby group walk even now at 14 months

My 14 month old doesn't walk, she RUNS all day long! From what I hear, girls tend to hit developmental milestones quicker than boys.

No worries unless they hit 18 months with no signs of walking. Meanwhile, count your blessings! My three walked at 15 months, 11 months, and (gulp) 8 months. WAAAAYY better when they start walking when a bit older.

my sone started walking at nine months but he has always been very independent and wanting to do things on his own, but you shouldn't let that worry you they will all develop at their own rates.

My daughter just started walking over the weekend - she still will crawl when she wants to get somewhere fast, but seems to walking more and more. My son was 12 months old when he became a full walker, so I was thinking she was a little "slow". It is great to see her up and moving. Hang in there, it is just around the corner.

my son will be 15 months old on the first and he's just now starting to walk on his own. He creeps along on furniture and walks very well holding our hands but he is just not that interested with walking on his own he would rather get along on his knees.

It took Wally a long time to muscle up the courage to walk. He's been cruising for months and started walking between two people over a month ago and just last week started doing it on his own. He'll work to it in his own time, don't worry.

My daughter was walking at about 12 months! However, my friends son was 17 months when he started walking!! All children differ!! My daughter only got her 1st tooth at 11 months!! Where as my my friends little girl had hers at 6 months!!! I also know someone whose daughter didnt really have any hair till 24 months, where as my daughter was born with a full head of hair!! What Im tryin to say is, all children are different.... where one child progresses, another doesnt... however they may be advanced in another area!! Plus..... once they start walkin..... you end up chasing them everywhere..... so enjoy it while it lasts!! LOL x

My son just started walking about 2 weeks ago.. now I can't keep him down. I was worried to, but as long as they are walking by 18 months you shouldn't worry.

My third child didn't walk until she was 15 months, but she was tiny for her age. Once she started though, she just took off.

That's how my daughter started out but then one day when she was roughly 13 months old she started with a step then it seemed the next day she was running!! it happeneds all to quick but it will happen soon, I swear kids hear us say things like " Oh she'll be walkin in a week." and just to spite us they will put it off for that week!

My son is almost 14 months and is standing and just starting to cruise along the furniture. He crawls everywhere and is starting to take more of an interest in being upright. He's always been slower with his milestones, so I'm not worried. They do it when they can, you can't force it. It took him a long time to pick up fingerfoods and put them in his mouth. He used to just throw them on the floor, and recently he starting putting them in his mouth. They just decide to do what they want out of the blue!

my little girl just started to walk about 1 1/2 weeks ago and she turned one on march 7! my oldest daughter walked at 14 1/2 months, and my son at 13 1/2 months. most of our family thought this was late, but oh well. before my youngest started walking on her own, she was very good at walking along furniture, but mostly she walked on her knees! one day she just started walking and hasn't stopped walking since. it's amazing when they realize what they can do and actually decide to do it! now she hates her stroller and wants to walk with her big brother and sister, so it's kind of a lot more work going out with them! your baby will walk when he is ready so don't fret :)

Hi! I have 3 kids and my youngest was born in March 08. He started walking by 13 months. Which most ppl think that it's quite normal.

My eldest son actually only started walking when he was near to 17 month and my 2nd somewhere near 16 months. I thnk it's ok if they start walking later than the others. Just let them take their time, relax & enjoy learning at their own pace. I think that is what matters most: to enjoy the process....

I always get asked that question as well. My twins will be 14 months on the 13th and are not walking on thier own yet. My son can take 6- 10 steps on his own but my daughter just started this week to walk with us, on furniture and with her little walker. There is nothing to be concerned about, from what I've read only 1/4 of babies walk before they are 1 and the reast fall between 12-18 months.

I'm actually affraid of the idea of them both walking, that just means climbing everything is next. I just wish they could wear padded suits for the next year LOL.

In my mothers group of about 10 mums and bubs, less than half are walking at nearly 14 months. Most are cruising around holding the furniture or trolleys, some are still rolling and crawling. My son was one of the last to roll and crawl - and I too wondered what was going on, but then he was one of the first to walk - they like to keep us guessing!

Thanks! Its great to know I'm not alone. It seems like all my friends kids were walking by now. I'm thinking when he starts walking he will be running. Maybe I shouldn't be in such a hurry! lol

So it's not just me! My son isn't walking yet either. He is a speedy little guy with his push toy. When I try to get him to walk he just falls forward on to his hands.

My sister works at a daycare and said some babies take 14 months in daycare and ones who are at home with parents instead take longer.

I just hope he starts walking soon!
