I have a 5 yr old daughter that has always slept in her owm bed up until a year ago. We have tried EVERYTHING and she still comes down in our room @130 everynight. We tried taking things away and huge rewards.. The thing she wants more than anything is a puppy.
We even went as far as borrowing a dog for 2 days and told her it would be hers if she just slept in her own bed all night. We went through countless arguments in the middle of the night to no avail. We try taking her upto her bed when she comes down but she yells and cries and follows us right out. We've had to either sleep in her bed or let her sleep in ours. I recently bought 2 twin beds and put her in with her 3 yr old sister thinking that would work...no!
She is terrified to be in her room without an adult. We turned around the locks on her door and she was in sheer panic!! I'm no "lightweight" mom and I'm not afraid to let her scream. I just don't no if I will traumatize her if I follow through on locking her in her room. She won't even walk upstairs during the day without someone going with her. I have no idea what makes her so anxious because other than this issue she is a very well adjusted, out-going child. There have been no incidents, deaths in the family or anything out of the ordinary her entire life! Please HELP!!!!
