i started my son on baby rice in his bottle at 5 weeks and had not problems, HV advise against it but my son had bout 14 bottles a day and he sleeps thru the night too

Noooo cerial in the bottle!! At 6 weeks babys digstive sytems are wayyy to immature.. Its suggested to wait until atleast 5-6 months before introducing anything besides breastmilk/formula!!

My son gets cereal in his bottle for reflux...he is 8 weeks old and is still up every 2-3 hours to eat. Sometimes it just really doesn't fill them up anymore than just the formula :( You could ask your pedi. who will probably recommend against it unless she is suffering from reflux or something else...but just incase they could tell you how much to add to each bottle.

This is a tough one....the American Pediatrics Association says this is a no no....offer her a bottle or breast more often and see if she consumes more ounces. Some children get bound up, gas..it is as if their bodies are not ready for it. There are some that have the belief that this may lead to obesity in young children.

I am breastfeeding and was having the same problem--my little girl was born 3-5-09. My dr. advised me to pump 30-45 min. after my early morning feeding (around 6 am) to get more milk. She said your body produces the most milk in the morning and it declines the later you get into the day. You can use that milk in the evening. Once my baby started sleeping 6 hours through the night, I set my alarm and I pump in the middle of the night. I can also use that in the evening until she can take cereal. Good luck!

every one has there own opinion, mine was eating baby food at three weeks. our doctor said it was okay and he was diesting it fine ... you just could not keep this baby full it was nearly impossible. and now he's fine he's eating baby food. I started him on rice cereal at three weeks like the doc told me too, and now he's eating almost two cans of baby food a sitting. every baby different though if you think he's ready then go for it, every doctor is going to say something diff, and i mean every one. but if you think about it baby like 20 years ago were eating baby food at an early age and they turned out fine and now they have all these things that babys should and should not do and most kids these days are obese. so if you think he's old enough go for it.

A lot of mother's have advised me of the cereal plan in the milk, but like mentioned in some replys, I advise not to do the cereal mix either. Those same mother's also told me they just wanted their baby to go to sleep too that's why they did it(plus it's an old school remedy). My daughter wb 2mths Friday and I, like another mom's reply below, just increased her ounces of formula(I breastfed my son & did that then too). I couldn't breast feed her though(I got preeclampsia after I had her & was hospitalized). Cereal, I was told by her doctor, is not good on the digestive system until late month age. I just went back to work Monday but it seems to be helping with the increase in ounces of formula. Good luck & take care of that precious little one.

I don't know if it is a good idea to give your little one cereal you should ask your doc. My Baby is 6weeks and she only wakes up once a night. She eats 4oz before bed at 10pm and 4oz at like 3am then she sleeps till 8 or 9, I would love to give her cereal so that she would sleep through the night.

My daughter is 4 weeks old and has been getting ceral since she was a week and a half since she has reflux and it helps thicken the formula so it stays down and she doesnt reflux, and that was per her doctor. She gets 4 oz bottles everytime she eats. I give her ceral in the AM and PM. I make the 4 oz bottle and then I have a special bottle for the ceral.. I take 2 teaspoons for ceral and put in that bottle with 2 oz of formula. My daughter has always slept 8 hr at night after her last bottle. My best friend started my God son on ceral at 2 weeks, the same amount I do my daughter, and he started sleeping through the night. Good luck!

it's not a good idea, what milk are you using? My boy is on SMA white. for hungrier babies. It seems to help him feel more satisfied, along with breast milk. Cereal may harm your little girl's kidneys. Please be careful. ask your midwife. Can't go wrong asking a pro x I hope i helped x x x Bambie x x x

I have 2 children and my husband has 2. Both of us started our children anywhere between 4-6 weeks of age. What I do is for the first feeding with cereal make a 2 oz formula bottle and then take your formula scoop and fill it half way with cereal and mix with formula. This is just to make sure she is not allergic and to see how she handles it. After that move to 4 oz and one whole scoop of cereal. I feed it to my son only at bedtime though because too much may cause them to become overweight. My son is 6 weeks old now and he has been eating cereal for about a week and a half. The Drs may say no but honestly mommy knows best.

i know you can give them a lil baby rice or rusk with there own milk but they not ment to have that till atleast 3 months and even then they say thats early, i wd try stage 2 milk or seek ur dr advice as u dnt wnt ur child to add to much weight

Hullo Erin!!! cereal in the bottle is a no no especially so young as their digestive systems are still so immature and can cause terrible cramps. It actually doesn't help them sleep through even at a later age. babies will sleep through once they are neurologically ready and once their nervous system has matured and of course each baby is different i.e. one will start sleeping through at 8 weeks the other at 6 months. believe me, I've tried the cereal thing with my fraternal twins, and firstly they didn't finish their bottle and secondly it didn't help them sleep through. Your routine may be a bit out of wack that's why your baby may seem hungry. you can try reading gina Ford's contented little baby's book, or if you send me your email I can try help you with a routine if you like. have just worked out a new routine with the help of a friend for my 7 weeker and it's starting to work - after the 11pm feed he only wakes up once and then I'm only giving him brown sugar water as he is drinking 150ml per feed but is only allowed 150ml if he's drinking 5 bottles a day, not six - he'll be dropping this feed very soon though and then he'll be sleeping from 7pm to 7am.

hi, is she on formula? if yes just try upping the feed than what you normally give her, say 30mls more and see how it goes. I would wait till she's about 12 weeks before you start the cereal. My son is 6weeks today and he was like that but i did that and he seems more settled now. I am going back to work nxt week. Good luck

I have been told by numerous people to put about 2 tablespoons in a 5ounce bottle so it's like orange pulp- not much thicker than that...it's hard to say I was given cereal and so were all of my nephews and cousins. We are all fine. When I tell them that I really dont want to do it they tell me well good luck sleeping through the night! How nice, huh?

I don't know that's a tough one, I read you should wait till they're 4 months old.  My mom put me on serial when I was 3 months.  Good luck!
