I had a hard time weaning my daughter from the breast to the bottle, when I went back to work when she was 3 monthes. Still at this point -she is 6 monthes now...she will only drink 3-4 oz at the most at a seating. Most times it is only 1-2 oz according to her daycare sheet.

At her 4 month check up the dr said to start her on solids and continue to bf. I did that ...exactly what was said breakfast---ceral and fruit, lunch -veggie, dinner, veggie.

Her 6 month check up was yesterday and she only gained 1lb, between check ups. The Dr is now saying to drop the veggie =lunch and only offer the breastmilk bottle and feed her the meat/veggie combo for dinner. I now have to document all meals and how much she is eating for this week and call the dr to report back. We also have to go back to the office in 6 weeks for a weight check.

So, question====should I be worried??? Also, what advice do you have to get her to drink better from a bottle?

Follow your doctors advice and monitor your baby's progress. Try to check also your baby's nipples if your baby is comfortable with it. Baby percentiles ranking are used to compare your baby's growth with other baby's with similar age and gender. What matters most is the established pattern of growth. As long as your baby is gaining weight even if it is slow, it is something to be thankful for. Babies are different, so you really have to know what works with them or not. http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Help-Yo...

hi . after my big ole baby was born at 9 pounds I wasn't worried when he dropped to 8 at his 6 week check up he was back to just over his birth weight the midwives were concerned but I still felt he was happy and healthy.. then at his 12 week check he has only gain 300 grams and he had started to become very unhappy he would push off the breast and scream as if it was hurting him he also has some nasal problem and he was wheeze abit when he breathed Iw as told this was not to worry about as he came out so fast he didn't have a change to get alot of the muscus out of him. then the next doctor said he had a cold.. this went on for sometime and I was told to weigh him every week I did and he was gaining but no were near what he should be and he was so so unhappy I was sent to an hear specialist you sent us straight to the children's emergency and has said he is struggling to breath there is something wrong.. they told us yes there was something a mater but it was non urgent so we went back to our local gp and he said yep there was something going on and referred us to a pead he looked at him and straight away said oh he has a floppy larynx simple as that in 5 minutes we found out what we had be searching for for months thats why he didn't feel comfortable drinking they said he gets worse between 3- 6 months and it sure did so many time he sounded horrible and refused to drink he was take 40 mils at a time and only 3 times a day and that was me forcing it down his throat but the ped told me to put him on solids and since then we have not looked back as he got stronger due to actually getting some food into his belly he got happier and he now takes 120 ml ( that for me is amazing) now he is one big ole boy again..

Has your doctor offered you any reasons as to why she might not like her bottle ? she could just be like my first son and not be to fussed on it and is much more a solid eater does she eat well?.. from 6 months both my boys were eating what we were eating just mashed up ( of corse low salt) my first son took him self down to 2 feeds a day at 7 months and he is fine and healthy .. not all babys are that keen on milk .. I guess if I were you I would up the food not down it if you want her to gain weight and I would try the milk in a different cup instead of a bottle.. any way Im sure she will be fine I know my first son gained next to nothing between the 6 - 12 month age and then stacked in on 12 - 18 months and my second son gained next to none until he turned 6 months and his now staking it on they are grown and change in there own time if she is happy then she is prob just as healthy GOOD LUCK babys are baffling !!!

My daughter was born weighing 6 pounds 7 oz. At 4 months she weighed 11 lb 2 oz. She weighs 14ish now. At her 4 month check they basically told me to stop breastfeeding and go to formula. I felt that discontinuing bf was a dumb idea. Developmentally she is where she should be, she's happy and active so I basically told the doc to shove it :-) Babies go thru growth spurts at various times and breastfeed babies are also on a different growth chart than formula fed babies too so take that into consideration.

yes my daughter didnt want the bottle at all either so the advice is you have to get the tommy tippee bottle close to nature and serve the milk very warm everything has to be warm baby doesnt like cold at all but dont worry its just a matter of time dont worry everything will be back to normal soon promise
good luck to youxxxxxx

My son is in the 10th percentile for weight as well...but he is in the 75th (i believe either 75th or 90th cant remember) for length. He turned 6mths on the 6th and is 14lbs 15oz and 27ins long. My doc told me not to worry about his weight b/c of how active he is but she said if I could squeeze in more formula/baby food it wouldnt hurt. Try changing your bottles and see if that will help her drink more. My son was stuck on 4oz and 4mths old and finally I switched to the faster flow nipple(tried it around 3mths and it was too fast it gagged him) and switched to the playtex bottles with the bags. what a difference within 2 days he went from only 4oz to 7oz each feeding and no gas. He takes 4 7oz bottles and then eats baby food 2-3xms a day (he isnt big on breakfast yet)

Even I have the same prob with mine...she drinks only 3-4 oz at a stretch, but my mom is there to take care and so she gives more feeds like every 2-3 hrs and solids as well, and 'coz of that my baby is maintaing the weight and we also have changed the nipple ...we are now using the infant nipple, which she seems to like...

We have tried 4 different bottles...The one that she likes the most is the NUK brand. I usually don't switch sides BFing unless I am empty or she starts fussing for some reason.

She seems to be eating pretty good this weekend. I think BFing instead of feeding a veggie at lunch has helped alot. I guess the true test is when she goes back to daycare tomorrow....cross fingers that she will drink.

Maybe she doesn't like the kind of bottles. Try a different type of nipple. Or try ones with the soft spout like Advent and Nuby's have.

Do you nurse when you are with her? Try not switching sides until she's gotten all that superfat hind-milk.

Good Luck!

i wouldn't worry to much - easier said then done i know. keep an eye on things but for now your daughter is a happy healthy child. the only advice on drinking from the bottle i can offer is trying different teats, the varying shapes etc do change how the accept the bottle.my little boy doesn't drink well if we change the teat even if it's just putting in a new teat the same as the old because it's just a little bit different from the old one.good luck xx
