Do you think 5 year olds should play sports or let them be kids?

I think as long as they want to do it and they're having fun, then they're still being kids. As long as you're not one of those parents who yells at them for not being good enough at age five, I think it's great for them to get involved in sports. I started when I was four.

How is playing sports not letting them be kids? Most clubs and associations understand that sport is for fun, fitness, confidence and learning new skills such as team work and do not turn it into a competitive battle ground.

I believe that making structured exercise a normal part of life from early-mid childhood is a good thing. Having a training or physical activity scheduled for a couple of times a week ensures kids get out and exercise and dont fall into the trap of sitting indoors every day.

Most clubs will let kids try out the sport for free so you can take your child to a few places and let him choose which type of sport, gym, dance or martial art he likes the most.
