A couple days ago my 18 month old son had a Febrile seizure, it scared the heck outta me.
He was feeling at lil sick b4 it happened, but hes usually very healthy and doesnt get sick often, so i was very suprised by his high fever. Even more scared when we were watching tv and he broke into a seizure. I guess its common , and i know it was caused by the high fever , within an hour or so he went from normal to being bout 40 degrees. I was jus wondering if anyone else's toddler had a Febrile seizure, and what they did. The doctor said that once it happens it will mostly likely happen again , and im not looking forward to that , since he has his 18 month needles next month.

My 23 month old son also had a febrile seizure. The bad thing was he was also in the bath tub. I was siting right there by the bath tub and he just floped over which was the onset of the seizure he came up and started to cry then he started jerking and shaking. I grab him out of the bath. Then where he had fell over he had taken in some water and he started turning blue.Thank God my dear friend knew cpr, which she performed and he coughed up the water. My husband called 911 and they came and took us to the hospital. They told me he had a febrile seizure and because of that took in the water. This was a horrible ordeal that me and my family had to go though.A good friend, which was my next door nieghbor and a police officer told me about the FDA doing a study about the flu shot called Fluzone which was what my son had recieved about four months before his febrile seizure.I ask anyone whose child has a febrile seizure after having a flu shot go online to FDA.gov and report it.We has parents need to stick together and think about what's best for our children.I would rather deal with the flu than have delt with a febrile seizure and a near drowning.I also would like to state that 1 in 25 children have a frebrile seizure aleast once in their in life, but I also know that the FDA isn't studying this because of one person. It must have been alot of parents to complain as well.I hope this can help someone else, that was truly my wish.

Hi my nearly 3 year old had his first one 2 months ago he had a fever of 42! I could not break panadol and ibuprofen no clothes cool bath cold washers. It so ordered my hubby home ! as soon as my hubby got home I took him to the ER 9 while he looked after the little one.

In the waiting room he had a Seizer there I SCREAMED! he was out for a long time and threw up felt like so long he went all blue they told me its common too.. and I have my little print out they have me in the fridge. he is fine now I don't want him to every have another one he was in my arms and just went limp and his eyes rolled back and it took him ages and ages until he was himself he hates doctors to the doctors kept him in until he started to show he didn't want them near him heheh sounds silly but for about 6 hours he was in and out of sleep and they could come up and he would let them do anything to him finally when one doctor came to him he clung to me and look scared and we both decided he could go home ( if I was happy too)..

They told me he is more than likely to have 4 or 5 more before he is 6 Im not looking forward to them.

I was told panadol and ibuprofen had no effect on weather or not they will seizer and it can also happen with icecream's or hot food.

We are going on a plane ( long haul 26 hours traveling time) and Im petrified he is going to fit on the plane.. he is not sick at the moment so hopefully he wont get sick in the next weeks before we leave. I just have to remember at least if he fits he will not hurt him and I will have min 6 hours of quite time just him cuddling on my lap .. meh =(

Hi. My son is 20 months old and had his first febrile seizure at 8 months (he's had about five in all). Scared the heck out of me too! The doc is right it will happen again. But it is comforting to know that they grow out of them! My doc told me it would be anywhere from 3-5 years old before we saw the last of them.

The best thing you can do is to monitor him as best you can. When my little guy starts getting rosy cheecked, I start looking for signs of a fever. Usually, he's just hot from playing, but those fevers can sneak up on you - especially when they are teething. My son had a 103F temp from teething once and had a seizure because of it.

If he's going in for vaccines, make sure to give him ibuprofin 30 minutes before. I forgot to do that at his last round of vaccines and he had a seizure that night. I was so mad at myself.

If he has a low grade and thirty minutes later its has risen, go ahead and give him ibuprofin (verify this with your doc). When he is sick, we were told we could alternate between ibuprofin and tylenol every 3 hours, but alway check with your doctor.

Also get a cold rag under his armpits and on his head. He will hate you for this, but it helps keep his core temperature down.

Otherwise, just make sure he's safe. Try to keep him away from sharp corners and glass. If he does have a seizure, he obviously won't have any control over where he lands. Kai always vomits during his and it is common with Febrile Seizures. Make sure he's on his side so he doesn't choke on it.

Sorry for writing a book! I hope this helps - I know it's been a while since your post, but I know stuff like this can help other moms too!

First of all, IM soooo sorry this happened to your little guy. My son did the same thing at about 16 months old. He was fine all day then we put him down for a nap. Dad heard him crying in his room went in an he was just burning up, as soon as dad picked him up he started to fall back to sleep then all of a sudden our son started coughing an went into a seizure. Dad had never seen one before so he came out of the room running at me screaming an freaking out cuz he didnt understand, I took one look at my son thrashing around , eyes rolling in the back of his head an the weird hand movements an knew what it was right away( my sister has seizures) We took him to the doctor and they explained it all to us checked him over an let us go home. We havnet experienced it again but everytime he gets a fever i get very scared an we give him tylonol. The doctor told us not to mess around with his fever an if it was over a certain point get him treated fast. Hopefully you wont have to experince it again. I know for months it took me along time to sleep peacefuly in the night, i was always worried it would happen again.

True febrile seizures are common, but very scary for parents! Best thing is to avoid baby's temp reaching 39+ : tepid water bath, paracetamol(or like), cool water and minimal clothing. Once he fits, the best thing is to make sure the environment is safe, make sure there's nothing in his mouth and you could also put something like a teething ring in his mouth to prevent him biting his tongue. It's always best to take them to see a Dr afterwards just to make sure it's nothing more serious eg meningitis (don't mean 2 scare you).
All the best, and God bless :-)
