Has anyone started feeding rice cereal?

i started both of my kids on rice cereal at 2 weeks old off the spoon. i didnt bother with putting in the bottle. both of my kids did great with the spoon and the cereal.

My mom was over and tried before I did (last week)...he got really gassy. I am going to wait until he is 4 months now. 2 weeks away now!

hi.. my daughter is 3 months born march 17 and i gave her rice cereal for a week now. it is fine as long as they enjoy it. my oldest daughter is 6 now and I gave her cereal at the same age and she is fine.

I have been giving Alex Rice cereal also since he was about 12 weeks, he is now 15. He is loving it! I give him some at his last night feed and he is doing great, I am also beginning to give it to him in the mornings now because he he feeding so much more and cant seem to get enough.

My son was born on the 29/3/09 and he started his rice cereal yesterday for the first time i really should have put him on it weeks ago. i have been putting up with a crying irritable and grumpy baby who wouldn't sleep for more then 30-45 minutes through the day and did alot of comfort feeding. I was amazed to see the difference in Josh he was happy content slept for 3 hrs. I no longer had to feed him all the time. It was the best thing i could have done, although my Dr wanted me to wait

ive been giving my baby cereal bottles since she was 2 weeks old but lately i have been giving her cereal off the spoon. she was born 3/27/09

Also refering to the question above my post, usually the box has instructions on how much milk and rice cereal to mix together, the rice cereal i use is 1tbs to 2tbs of milk or water. I had the same problem my son hated the taste of the rice cereal so i pureed some fruits and and mixed it with them. i started with mashed banana and then transitioned to others. hope that helps. i never tried through i bottle because it was to thick!

Hi there my son was born 7/3/09 so he's 3m 2.5wks, just before 3mths i started him on rice cereal and he loved it! Now he has a bottle and rice cereal(only 2-3tbs) for brekky, bottle and vegies(2-3tbs) for lunch, bottle for afternoon tea, bottle and vegies for dinner, he loves it and is doing really well.

Question - how much rice cereal do you mix in a bottle of formula? I'm completely confused on this transition. I tried mixing some rice cereal with formula in a bowl but he didn't like it that way so I put the mixture in a bottle and he eventually ate it. Can I just put the rice cereal in the bottle from the beginning? If so, I'm not sure on how much cereal to mix in.

hi my baby boy was born on the 4 and i started him on the rice cereal about 3 weeks ageo he loves it he gets it with the first bottle of the day and about lunch after the cereal he has a bottle and he is loving it.

I also had to start my daughter, born 3/15, on cereal about three weeks ago because she was drinking formula every hour and it didn't seem to fill her up. once I started her on the cereal she went back to her regular feedings with the formula.

I started Padraic on cereal at a little over a month old. Today I started him on solids, though he'd had tastes already, now it'll be part of the routine. Oh yea, he was born 18|3

my little girl was born 3/25 and i havent fed solids yet.. i want to exclusively breast feed until she starts trying to eat off our plates. hopefully that doesnt happen until 8-9 months.

I started my daughter out with rice cereal when she was 3 months old, and she did fine. Same with my son, he just turned 3 months old and he is doing fine too. The only thing I can suggest is to give it to them gradually, start off with small amounts 1-2 times a day, and slowly work into it. I didn't do that with my daughter and she had a rough time going to the bathroom, but my son does just fine. :)

I haven't started rice, or any food yet besides breastfeeding for my son 13 weeks. He is healthy, and gaining rapidly, and is 13 lbs 13 oz already. He was 8 lbs at birth at 3 weeks before his due date. I don't plan to give him solids until 5 or 6 months old, but that is just me! I did the same with first 2 kids, and that worked good for us.

My daughter slept through from 8 weeks old but had a weight chart that was all over the place. She started waking up again in the nights ravenously hungry and teething at 10 weeks. So by 12 weeks i put her on solids, she started sleeping through again and has been a really happy average sized baby she currently weighs 13 lb 10 and is 15 weeks old. However she was born 10lb 2oz and 16 days late so she is rather advanced so I would recommend this for everyone but you know your baby best. Hope I helped some what! x

my pedi told me to start at his 2 month check up once a day probably his night time feeding, and he likes it. He was born march 20 and I think next week I will try the rice cereal with a spoon.

My pedi. doc told me at 2 months to start cereal so I did and he loves it..... but it has only been once a day. I started once a day since he was 5 weeks, but only 1/8 of a teaspoon then, not he is at about 5 teaspoons for a six ounce bottle... my babay was also very big for his age.

We were having some of the same issues, staring at us while we ate, acting hungry all the time. The doc also wanted us to wait until 4 mo, really what's a few weeks?

i havn't started yet, im going to start rice this friday when she is officially 3 months old :) against her dr. wishes, but he wanted me to wait till she was 4 but she is so hungry all the time and she stares and trys to grab at spoons and such also. so we will give it a try :)

I have started rice cereal as well. I only feed it to my son, Skyler, the last feeding before bed.. It helps him sleep longer through the night. :)

my daughter was born on 3-6 and her pediatrician told me at her 2 month check up to start rice cereal but only once a day so that it was i have been doing. she does ok with it, so no i don't think it is to early to start it!

My son was born 3/12 and started rice cereal 4 weeks ago...he was always hungry and he was drinking 8oz bottles. It was crazy... and was spitting up a lot. We started him with it in his bottle for about 3 weeks, then we started mixing it in a bowl, watered down, and feeing it to him in a spoon. He had started staring at our food and grabbing for it if we were holding him while we were eating. We just started him on actual baby food on 6/12. He had peaches for 3 days and just moved onto peas. Do what you feel is best...we would be feeding him every hour if we had just stuck with a bottle. Don't feel bad....your baby would let you know if she wasnt able to handle the rice cereal...trust your instincts, your doing a great job!

I started giving my daughter rice cereal at 12 weeks, because she was/is a big baby (birth weight 9lbs 14oz). She isn't fat, just big (22" at birth and now 26"). She is 14.5 weeks old today. She is doing great. I had tried putting her on rice cereal at 1 month and that caused her to be gassy, so I took her off for a while and put her back on, and now she is great. I was just reading another post about mixing probiotic with the cereal (Natren Life Start) so I'm going to go and pick some of that up and tried that to help keep her happy and healthy. Sam is doing great though, and she is SO much happier. She was up to 7oz a bottle every 2-3 hours and that was WAY too much - she was spitting up like crazy and ALWAYS hungry. Now she drinks 5oz every 3 hours and has 2 tbsp of cereal mixed with watered down apple juice (1 oz) twice a day. She is happy and healthy.
