my son MIcheal is 13.5 months old.....i have since he could eat food been blending my own i just feel better about it that way i know what is in it. Now since he has teeth and is at this age i have tried giving him little chunks of this and little chunks of that whatever is soft enough or boiled that crap out of so he could chew it with what few teeth he has (8 and all at the front ). Do i continue to feed him from the blender or do i keep trying onthe cubed food? All he does is put it in his mouth suck on it and spit it out. Am i doing something wrong or is it natural for a baby to do this?

I would stick the food in your mouth and check if u can easily disolve it using ur tongue and the roof of your mouth, my daughter also has 8 teeth but does not chew she swishes it in her mouth and then swallows, if he is not ready for cubed foods try gerbers step 3

my daughter started solids at 4 months....
we dont blend anything anymore.
however it comes down to what your comfortable with.
just watch your bub with chunky food and see how he goes.

My son ia a March 7th bub. He eats;
breakfast; porriage
morning tea; pieces of fruit (pear quarters / grapes in half)
lunch; meat / vegies / rice or quinoa (I still blend the vegies cos he seems to still prefer the smooth taste but I leave the rice and chop the meat into small pieces. That was he is getting a bit of texture. Then yoghurt
Arvo tea; Crackers with ricotta or homemade muffins etc
Tea; same as lunch but without meat. He may also have some finger foods, such as tonight he had zuchini slice. Salmon rice loaf is also good for finger food.

Corey still prefers blended food (especially at tea time where he is getting tired.) but I offer a range. Yesterday I fried in a drop of olive oil some baby zuchini, squash and asparagus. He muched on some, didn't love them but had a taste which is what I am all about. Stick with the favourites, offer a range of home made, fresh meals and introduce a fee different items here and there to encourage different tastes and textures.
Corey has only 6 teeth, I have never found teeth an issue with his eating, he managed to munch his way through bits of steak without any teeth!

When I started with my daughter, I only ever gave her chunky foods, not cubed, not that theres anything wrong with it, but they struggle to understand the chewing concept at first, you could try making chewing actions in front of him lol. A friends mother did that, with her own and my daughter and they started to mimic.

My son is 12months and 3 weeks and he has been eatting soild food since he was 5 months old I started him with mash potatoes and some rice pretty much anything that I had cooked for dinner.. He has only 8 teeth too and all in the front. Just try simple things like mash potatoes, ice cream because they will have the instick to wont to chew the food then try bananas (my son loves those!) He will eat soild food when he is ready just give him time. If your still blending things try leaving it still a little chunky that may work too... Hope this helps.. Good luck!
