How do you get a 11 month old interested in regular food?

My son can make the motion with his mouth like he's chewing something but everytime he eats regular food, it's like he doesn't know he is supposed to swallow it and it get's stuck at the back of his throat and he throws up! I am at my wit's end because everybody keeps telling me he should be eating regular food, but his doctor says he just isn't ready yet, he catches on to everything else so fast what is the deal with this?

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem!! My son will eat bits of food here and there, but prefers his baby food. Have you tried canned fruit? Cooked pears or really soft bananas? Also try bread, pancakes, etc. That's the best I can do for my son now...I figure he'll get it eventually.

Hi Michele..... I'm having the same problem with my son. He eats pureed food but when I try him on 10 month and older food from the supermarket he tends to choke on it all the time. I have friends with younger babies who are eating what we eat and my friends keep on telling me that my son should be eating normal food by now and chewing it. Josh is my first child, so I guess it is something that just takes time.

My daughter did that too. Well, she didn't throw up, but she would start choking on whatever she was eating. Only difference, she was about 9mos old. There's really nothing you can do but wait for him to "get it". I tried again a week later, same thing. Waited about another week and she was good to go. What are you giving him? Have you tried the Gerber puffs? They melt as soon as you put it in their mouth (yep, I've tried them - my March 2009 baby is my 5th). If nothing's working, don't worry about it. He'll get it :)
