I have some soft tissue issues to begin with and have a trainer who helps alot, but I'm in more pain now than I'm used to and honestly way to pregnant to hit the gym. I'm still doing reasonable areas of my regular physical exersize to keep myself going. My hips and my back are the worst and I can't seem to find a position that will allow me to sleep more than a cupple of hours or let me get up easily when I wake. I can't even sit for periods of time, and I'm starting to get too big to be moving around a bunch. When I can't take it anymore I take Tylenol, but I can't take enough to actually make it go away while I'm pregnant. I don't remember being so completely uncomfortable at this stage of pregnancy, is it normal? What do you do to eleviate some of the pressure?

I send you all my love as SPD is common but not normal in pregnancy and it is a hard condition to deal with as if affects our mobility. keep your chins up and im here if you need any help from the charity.

OMG!  I can imagine!  A few nights ago I took every extra pillow in the house and made a bed on top of the bed with a GIANT hole in the middle for MY giant middle!  I got made fun of for it the next day, But I actually slept - so I didn't much care!  Wish I could figure out how I had it so comfortable again!  Thank God there's no photos!

oh to have a set arrival date wouldnt it make it all so much better i used to not be able to sleep on my sides or bacl so i have had to have a huge adjustment but if i sleep onmy back my braxton hicks get rather quite bad the other night i ended up falling asleep up on my knees with my head facing the pillow so head down bum up position just to get comfy must have looked shocking. the couch seems to be good but i cant sleep without my df there so. its all downhill from here it will be over soon ( i hope).

LOL!  I prefer to sleep on my stomach normaly, but not at 33 weeks!  I can't even roll in that direction!  LOL!  I wish this kid had a set arrival date so I could start counting the days (and nights)!

I'm late to this posting, but just had to chime in b/c my back aches horribly each day.  I also can't sleep for more than 2 hrs at a time b/f I wake up feeling like my ribs are cutting open my stomach/uterus OR my back/hips are killing me from being in the same position for so long.  So I turn over, then the other side gets sore and then I can't find a single position that's comfortable.  Can't do the back (even though unpregnant that's my preferred sleeping position) and of course can't do the stomach.  Ugh...I'm at 32 wks and wondering how much bigger I'm going to get and how I'm going to get through 7 more weeks (c-section at 39th week).  Thanks, I just need to vent!  I'll feel better tomorrow morning and then by noon it'll all start again.  LOL

Oh my!  I've not heard of PGP before.  It would make sence though, as the posision you describe is similar to the ONLY way I can lay on my back (each heal next to same butt cheek).  Would my OBGYN be able to tell me if this is a concern? Could this also be what's causing sharp stab-like pains on one side of the pelvic bone?

hi, it sounds to me like you could be suffering from PGP (pelvic girdle pain) and/or SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction).  I've been suffering from SPD a bit over the last couple of weeks, and after being to a physio have been given some specific stretching exercises to do, as well as a list of 'do not do this' and have found they have really been helping!  I highly recommend going to see a physio who specialises in pregnancy and post natal work.  hope they can help!!  the stretch I've found the best so far is laying on my back but with my legs in the yoga 'lotus' position...knees wide open, feet together and as close to ur bum as u can get, and just letting it rest there...also ice can help heaps!!  Physios can also prescribe a special belt that holds ur pelvis togethr and apparently has helped heaps for some people!

All the best for both of you!!!

Hey Tiff,

I'm 33 wks, and I don't remember being this uncomfortable during my last pregnancy, so maybe I'll forget again soon.  LOL!  I'm okay sometimes proping a bunch of pillows around me and between my legs to support different areas (my hips have litterally spread 150%!), but that doesn't always help.  My husband's a big guy and our bed's old, so when he shifts I get moved.  LOL!  I can't lie flat on my back because I have a small curveture that makes it hard and now that I have a backside it makes my spine bend funny.  The best place I've found is the sofa!  If I lie at a 45 degree angle (leaning against the back) I can take pressure off the hips and back.  But to be honest; the sofa's a lonely place, I wake up from street noise, anyone that wakes at night wakes me too, I'm constantly tempted to turn on the tv, and I really miss my husband at night!  Not to mention that the living room is a little colder than upstairs!  I guess I have to take the good with the bad and be thankfull I can move around at all!  At least we're not pregnant for three years like elephants! Right?

I hope you find some relief, the pressure can leave you miserable sometimes!  It's nice to know I'm not alone though!

hi tara,

i am in the same boat as you to the point where sometimes i just cant get up or even consider trying to walk as faras i know thereis nothing medically wrong with me and all i get told is it is everythign getting ready for labour. i find these problems are the ones that make this stage of pregnancy the hardest to get through. so as i say i have been told it is normal but have also been informed to talk to a physio and see if there is something they can recommend to help supposrt your lower back / hips i find laying flat on my back in bed for a while makes the pressure pull away for a bit but some days it just wont go and i have found with sleeping that i have a belly bean ( really just to small round pillows joined together by thin bit of fabric) to have one small pillow under belly to support that and then put the other under your knees so you body is slightly twisted if that makes sence made my sleeping a little less painful other than that i dont think there is much else you can do. if you dont mind me asking how far along are you??? i am 31 weeks and driving me nuts lol. hope you find something that works. tj
