hi im a mum of 2 gorgeous kids could anybody shed some lighht on night lamp situations my 7 mnth old has suddenly started wanting a night light on all the way through the night hes not content with a plug in light its got 2 be a lamp is this normalxx

Its not common no. Being opposed to the dark is something that happens when they are much older, it is strange for a baby to suddenly want a change in circumstances, usually babies like continuity. In part I agree with Rebekah, it is true that having light in the room stimulates the part of the brain that is supposed to be asleep and research shows that all humans including babies sleep better in the dark. But you know what I really think, if it works, do it! If she is sleeping well and she needs a night light then so what. I used to look after a girl whose mother had played the radio while she slept since she was born, she was 4 years old and could not sleep without it, but hey, at least she slept!

I would not worry so much, personally my son started doing it as well and at one point would act like some noised scared him almost completely in his room that he would automatically grip onto me as tightly as he could. It made me worry a lot at first but he acts like it has gotten better. There is nothing wrong with a night light it is just the fact that they are becoming aware of their surrounding and they know they are alone. The light is just comfort so they can see. Does this help?

i believe babies get used to such things but if u dnt give in the 1st place they wnt miss wot they never had, my lil girl sleeps without any lights at all

This is not normal at all.
All animals require darkness at night time so that their bodies can reset for the next day. Without darkness the body does not function so well.
Is your baby isolated? This is not a natural condition for human babies to be isolated from other people and baby must be feeling very insecure. I would get rid of the light and make sure that baby is withing touching distance if not already.

my daughter wont sleep unless her fish light is on, next to her. it is one of those ones that looks like a fish tank with fish that go around and around. she watches it until she falls asleep. if i turn it off while shes asleep and she wakes up, she will scream. this started when she was about 6 months.
