My almost 2,5 year old daughter is refusing to nap and there's nothing I can do to nap her :((( She takes too long to fall asleep at night too...she tosses and turns and seems that she can't get comfortable for hours!! anybody else experiencing the same problem??

My son cut out his own naps about a month ago. he got really sick with a stomach flu, threw up for 3 days straight, and so we kept him up on the couch with us during his naptime with a blanket and his Louie (a stuffed lamb) on the couch. He would nap there. Once he got over the flu, and we tried putting him back to his regular schedule, he refused to nap. Which works out fine. He has quiet time with his big brother (usually put on a couple of shows), and then we moved his bedtime up from 8pm to 7:30pm. He goes to bed like a dream most nights (asleep before 8), and sleeps until about 7:30 most mornings.

I think that unless there is an issue, if she's not getting enough sleep at night to keep her going for the day, then it's probably not an issue. If she seems to be excessively tired, and not functioning properly on the sleep she gets at night, I'd talk to a public health nurse or your doctor for some advice.

I cut out naps too. I just make sure I poop her out during the day and she goes to bed at 6:30. She's been sleeping all night most of the time.

My son is doing this as well! I would put him to bed at 7:30, (not fall asleep until 9) and he would often wake at 5:30am. My husband went away for 6 weeks and I personally couldn't take the 5:30am wake ups. I tried cutting out his naps most days. He slept from 7pm-7am (sometimes6:30am) He still needs his naps 1 in 3 days. I find "quiet time" helps the crankies, and exhausted feeling. If he falls asleep in the car,or stroller, I let him sleep for an hour, and adjust his bedtime by an hour. Some days aren't pretty, but I figure we do regardless of naps!

thanks Amy, good to know it's common for their age, but still she does look tired and she will fall asleep in the car or if i take her for a walk in the stroller...i'll just see what follows...

My 2, 5 year old stopped her own naps a while ago as well and i think its quite common for children of their age, so my only advise on the nap situation would be that unless her health or behavior is suffering because of it just accept it. She might start napping again if she starts nursery or has a growth spurt. Does she settle in the end at night? I have found sleep and sleep patterns one of the hardest obstacles with my little one so i hope everything works out for you! :-)
