Hello, my son was born on March 18th. He has reflux and horrible gas symptoms. He is taking medicine and gets special formula along with breastmilk.

Usually a baby with these issues prefers to sleep on their back while elevated to help with the reflux. However, my baby boy decided to sleep on his tummy. He must take after me since that is my prefered position to sleep.

We at first thought he didn't like our room or his bassinet since he would only sleep on our chests. My husband and I were sleeping in the living room.

One day I put him in his bassinet so I could use the restroom, and I so happened to put him on his tummy. Wouldn't you know it, he fell asleep immediately and took an hour nap. Now he sleeps 8-9 hours through the night. My husband is worried about it because of SIDS. I talked to the pediatrician and was told it is fine as long as there are no toys or blankets in the bed (like I'd do that anyways). And family members tell me that before "it was proven" SIDS decreased with back sleep, they said the same thing with sleeping on their stomach.

I was just wondering if anyone else has a baby with tummy issues who will only sleep on their stomach?

my daughter morgan was born on march 20th and after the worst 3 weeks of our lives they diagnosed her with GERD, The doctor switched me from breastfeeding to formula, and than switched her formula 3 times in that 2 weeks. She is now on Zantac and has been stable with Enfimel Lipil since i told her dr to shove it. She also will on ly sleep on her stomach. She doesn't evan sleep in her carseat or her swing, she wakes up after 10-15 min if she evan falls asleep.. :( oh and my dr threw a fit when he found out she was a tummy sleeper. but i don't care, how many of us were placed on our tummy's as babies. and we are all still here :)

I put my son in his carseat, because just like your little guy he won't have anything to do with sleeping on his back. He's also comfortable in his fisher price infant to toddler seat since it has that same angle; I've tried the inclined positioner in his bassinet too, but he won't go for that...it'll get better soon!
PS just for the sake of saying, I breastfeed and my son has the worst gas pains too, he's had them since the day he was born (mentally tiring that he was screaming in pain while still in the hospital but my roommates newborn slept through the night!!)

We have tried a few different formulas. We tried the soy, that didn't help. We are now on Enfamil's Gentlease and that is a little better. He still has gas, but at least he isn't in as much pain. Next step would be some special prescription/specialty formula that has proteins broken down more than store-bought.

I do wish that he would sleep on his back, but he wakes up (even from a deep sleep) and immediately screams.

So for now we will just stick with the Gentlease and tummy sleep I think...ugh.

I also heard about having them sleep in their car seat, but I was also told to not have them spend so much time in swings and car seats because their oxygen level decreases or something. So I don't know, things are always confusing!

Hi! My son Caleb was born on the 13th, and he did have some tummy issues too. At first I was giving him a sensitive formula, and breast feeding (Which confused my 1 1/2 year old, I wasn't able to breast feed him), and was faced with the same, he didn't want to sleep in the crib, or the couch, nothing. Gas-ex didn't help, and then he started vomiting. after many visits, they detirmined reflux. Well, because of my first boy, I decided to stop breast feeding, and then put Caleb on soy formula. We found that our older boy had all the same toubles when he was a baby, and we all suffered through it. Later, before Caleb was born, we found out that his big brother, Corban is allergic to any and all dairy products, including formula that is milk or lactose baised. So, switched new little Caleb to Soy, and then I have him sleeping on a pillow next to my on his back in bed. That's the only way he will sleep on his back, and I have an easier time with feeding him, and tending to him when he wakes. I put him on the pillow, so that even when I'm sleeping, Im aware of him next to me. Having him raised more to my level prevents me from trying to roll in that direction. It's worked for 2 months now. He growing quickly, and rarely has any gas, or tummy pains anymore. But, I should say, that through the day, he sleeps on him tummy on a HUGE couch ottoman in the middle of the living room. It works. Have you looked into the formula causeing some of the issues? Hope it all works out for you!
