My son will be one year old on the 5th of March, and believe it or not. I have not lost any of the baby weight. In fact I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which made me gain a pound every two days before I started taking medication for it. Now I don't gain weight, but I can't lose any. Any advice on how to lose the weight?

Also: I cannot find any jeans or any pants that aren't stretch to fit me at least decently. I am like a size 18 around the waist and a size 12 the rest of the way down starting at the bottom of my hips. HELP PLEASE!!

I actually just went to the doctor to get my levels checked, so i should hear something from him within the next week. Thank you for the advice. It is nice to know that someone else has gone through it too. Thanks!

Hi Katy, I too have Hypothyroidism, and what I am about to say may sound mean, but my intentions are to help you get to where you want to be. That said...... I lost all my baby weight! It is possible, you just need to make sure that your medication is where it should be. The hypothryoidism didn't make you gain the weight. When you are unaware of a condition, and you are tired, its hard to get out there and be active. Its the lethargy and inactivity that enabled your body to retain and gain the weight as calories were unable to be burned off.

It will take a lot of tweaking to get your levels where they should be, so make sure your TSH, Free T4 and T3 are tested regularly! Once a new level is given(ie: I am on .2 synthroid), it takes 6wks to get an accurate measure of what level is right for you. I used to take .175 before I was pregnant, but during and even still after birth, I am taking .2 !

Its hard to be diagnosed with Hypothryoidism later in life, and more and more men and women are. I guess I can consider myself lucky that I have had it since I was 3mos old. It is possible for you to lose the weight, but make sure you keep on your meds, even if it is bugging your Dr to follow up each time. What is your dose now? Also, don't take your medication with any other vitamins, as it can counteract or even render your thyroid meds useless! Take your thyroid meds as soon as you get up in am(or the last thing you take at night-so you remember to take it daily) and take it with water. You will know your meds are working when you get more energy, less headaches, concentration will get better etc etc.....then you should see the weight gradually come off. Once your energy increases, you will get out and be more active....I don't expect you to run or cycle miles a day, heck I just take my little guy for walks everyday. Don't expect it overnight, but it will happen!

I wish you all the best!
