I'm with Suzie on this one. I don't have any answers for you, but I do know that a consistent high fever isn't normal and can cause BRAIN DAMAGE!

I worked in an adult foster care home for mentally and physically impaired adults. I took care of a resident who was perfectly healthy until the age of 3, when he ran a fever over 100 degrees for over a week, the doctors just kept sending him back home. He is now mentally retarded and lives in a foster home away from his family who loves him because of his uncontrollable angry outbursts.

I am praying that you find some answers before something devastating happens. What ever you do, no matter how many you have to go through, keep taking her to different doctors until you find someone who wants to help! A doctor who won't turn you away because they don't have the answer, instead they are honest and say " I don't know" but I'm gonna figure this out!!

Good Luck to you!

about the recall for tylenol, motrin, zyrtec and benadryl.... if you buy the store brands, they aren't involved in the recall. They are exactly the same as the name brands, but they aren't made by the same manufacturer. All the brands involved have been made by the same company factory. go to tylenol.com to learn more.

My daughter was also born on March 26, 2009! :-) That was a great day. My daughter would go a few days in each week with fever, it lasted a few weeks and I took her to the dr and they checked her ears and she was fine. If it had not finally stopped I would have insisted the dr do blood work. I do not want to frighten you but my sister in law's nephew also had alot of fevers and in the end was diagnosed with a type of leukemia. Thank goodness he only had to go through treatment for a short time and he is in remission. I contemplated posting this reply because it is not my intent to scare you but want to be sure the pediatrician checks her thoroughly. I would want people to tell me every possibility so I decided to post this. Take care and I hope the fever goes away.

My son gets EXTREMELY hot when he's tired. I feel like I could cook eggs on his head if I wanted. My cousin is a doctor and he said there's no medical reason for it.. and our pcp said he could do blood tests if I wanted (my cousin said it woudl be a waste). So as of now- Caleb has consistently since birth (3/09) been a very hot kid. He does get the sweats and that, but he just heats up- not just sweating when he's tired.... so thus far I haven't been able to figure out why- and no doctors know either...

http://www.nlm.nih.gov This is a website with a medical encyclopedia. I have no idea what it could be but you might be able to find out on there, there is alot of things on there to go through... but.. I will help go through it all if you would like and if i find anything i will let you know try that website.. go to the encyclopedia tab and then there is A-Z letters.. And everything known to man... so you should be able to find something that can give you lead... or an answer.. I wish you and your family the best of luck.

I think you should have her checked or treated for a urineary tract infection. my daughter ran a fever on and off for 6 weeks even higher like 104. That was the last thing they looked at and even though I never actually got a sample I do believe that was it. They treated her for it and been much better.

I would take her to a rheumatologist,s he needs blood cultures done, no child should have a temp like that and it be normal, and if your prediatrician hasnt sent her for further tests (labs, urine, MRI) u should get a new pediatrician. if they run a temp higher then 99.1 its a fever and if its constant that can affect the brain, I would def get lots of blood work done. what state are you in?

A boy I once took care of had high fevers as a baby and toddler, and many doctors later found that it was some strange mediteranean disease, Once they diagnosed it right and treated it, the fevers stopped. Possibility?

However, all assumptions aside, make sure you have a reliable thermometer. Ear and forehead thermometers don't tend to take as accurate of a temp as regular mouth/rectal/under arm temperatures. Out of all three, the most acurate is rectal. Remember to add one full degree if it's under the arm, minus one full degree if it's rectal, and it's the temp shown if you do it by mouth (by their age now, I wouldn't recommend this).

I agree with knowing what your child's regular temp is. Not everyone's is 98.8, some can go high, or a little low. Perhaps it's a combination of not taking the temp right and her having a slightly high temp regularly? Just some thoughts to help you think about a solution!!

ALSO, I FOUND THAT IF MY LITTLE ONE LAYED FLAT ON HIS BACK WHILE DRINKING HIS TEMP FLARED DUE TO THE FACT HIS TONSILS AND SUCH NEED CAUGHT A LOT OF THE MILK ETC AND MADE IT YUCKY AND CAUSED A INFECTION, I HAVE A 1 YR OLDC AS WELL AND HE SFINE NEVER HAD A TEMP, JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WORRIED ABOUT THE NEXT CHILD, I WAS TERRIFIED THAT ID HAVE ANOTHER CHILD WITH TEMPS ALL THE TIME.

JUST TO ADD, MAKE SURE YOUR DR TAKES NOTICE OF YOUR LIUTTLE ONES SPLEAN, IF SHE HAS BEEN HAVING A LOT OF INFECTIONS THAT THEY HAVE MISSED, IT CAN DAMAGE THEIR SPLEEN, AND CAN SOMETIMES HAVE TO HAVE IT REMOVED

MY SON HAS BEEN EXACTLY THE SAME, HE GETS SO HOT THAT HE ACTUALY HAS WHAT IN AUSTRALIA WE CALL FEBRAL CONVULTIONS, AND HE FITS, LOSES CONCIOUSNESS AND SOMETIMES STOPS BREATHING, WE FOUND THAT EVERYTIME HE GOT A TEMP THAT HE HAD SOME SORT OF INFECTION, EARS, NOSE, THROAT, AND OCCASTIONALY A URINE INFECTION, HE IS NEARLY FOUR YRS NOW AND STILL HAS THEM.WE MOVED 2 YRS AGO TO THE OUTBACK AND MET A DR WHO FINALY TOLD US THAT THE PROBLEM IS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN HIS TONSILS,AND ADNOIDS THE PUSS AND STUFF CANT LEAVE HIS BODY NORMALY SO IT JUST SITS AND HE CONSTANTLY GETS INFECTIONS AS A RESULT. THE ONLY WAY TO GET HIS TEMP DOWN WAS TO USE PANADOL AND NUROFEN TOGETHER, WHICH WORKS! SEE YOUR DR AND THIS MIGHT WORK FOR YOU, BUT NEVER USE 2 PARACETAMOL PRODUCTS TOGETHER. IF YOU HAVE NAPPY WHIPES THAT YOU TAKE WITH YOU IVE FOUND THEY WORK A LOT BETTER AND STAY COLD LONGER WHEN YOU PUT IT ON YOUR LITTLE ONES FOREHEAD, THAN A MOIST WASH CLOTH. GOOD LUCK . JOEANNE

My daughter was born March 2, 2009 and she also seemed to have a constant fever (except when we were at the doctors) they said maybe a UTI and next time she had a fever to bring here to the hospital and they would cath her and check for a UTI, I didn't like that idea and 101 isn't that high so I let it go and stopped checking her temp all the time, I THINK in her case that is just her body temp, plus she is teething

This is a little bit different, but my 13 month's cold turned out to be roseola. He had a runny nose and bouts of high 102 fever for over two weeks. It took 2 nurse line calls, 1 doctor visit to rule out a sinus or ear infection, and finally the "tell-tale" rash appeared on his back and abdomen. The 3rd nurse line call confirmed it. The most common age for roseola is between 6 months and 15 months. Check out this Mayo Clinic link for more info: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/roseola... We gave our son Infant Tylenol for his fever and that seemed to work fine -- but if you have seen the news, there is now a recall on that. Here is the recall info: http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/page.... so you might want to try Advil. (Do NOT administer aspirin as it is associated with Reye's Syndrome.)

Have the doctors ever suggested that 100.5 is just "her normal" body temp? Because I have seen people whose normal temp is 97, and that's really low compared to most people. Just an idea. I don't have anything to back it up.

My second daughter doesn't have this, thankfully. But my first daughter went through a real phase of this. From when she was 15 months until she was almost two, we went through weeks of persistent fevers. The doctor kept sending us to the hospital to check for UTI, but it never was. I tried to keep the windows open and washed all of her toys (I even put the "surface wash only" ones in the freezer) and I replaced al of her soothers several times, but it didn't seem to change anything. It seemed to coincide with teeth, but that didn't seem right, teeth shouldn't do that. Someone once asked me if it was possible that the dog was carrying a disease that he passing back to her (they can do that with things like strep), so if you have a pet, you might want to talk to the vet about it, I know we couldn't keep he dog and Tia apart. Try to get her as much fresh air and vitamins as you can, hopefully it will pass quickly. Tia all of a sudden simply stopped the fevers(shortly after her second birthday and when all her baby teeth were in), but she still "runs hot". I find whenever she gets a little cold, or is over tired, or something is bothering her, she tends to spike a fever. I have refused to medicate unless its over 39.5 (just under 100), but its hard. Best of luck, I hope she cools down for you.
