Potty Training....

i got my 15 month old son a potty a couple months ago... and he just stood on it and talked to it at first. we've actively 'used' it for a couple days (a minute or 2 on the potty every 30-45 mins, followed by an m&m...wearing pull-ups) and he's peed in the potty once. he pooped near the potty once...that wasn't much fun! we only do this on days we're home most of the day... it's a no pressure thing right now. i want to give him lots of opportunity to succeed :) i'm not too concerned with him getting fully trained right now...it's mostly about familiarization and comfort right now. when we start REALLY training, i'm switching him to a trainers and we're going to try the potty scotty stuff.... i really like the idea of having him teach a doll how to use the potty :)

i do want to comment on the potty we have... it's a froggy potty... he LOVES it, but it's not very efficient. it's pretty tall... and while the eyes that work as a splash guard work well, they're awfully wide. i have to completely remove his pants/pull-up because even if they're around his ankles, he can't spread his legs far enough to sit properly on the frog. he also can't get off the frog by himself without taking the bowl with him...

my first decided one day he wanted to use the potty and we only had to help him train at night (he was about 17mnths but on the other hand at 3 1/2 and after lots of training I was at my wits end with my second, we ended up having to move in with nanny for a few weeks because he would just ignore me!!!!!!! ............SO HOPING LITTLE MR NUMBER THREE WILL BE MORE LIKE NUMBER ! (sat him on the potty after nap time last week, he had his sippy and i read him a story...... he did poos and wee's got excited but just is no longer interested!!!!)

My first refused the potty until she was 2, and at 3 we are just now getting to the place where she is making it to the potty at least 90% of the time. I have started to firmiliarize my 15 month old with sitting on the potty when her big sister does, although she hasnt grasped yet what its all about and will not stay on once the diaper comes off. I would suggest that if shes giving you cues such as an interest in the potty, sitting on the potty, telling you when shes wet or had a bm, those are all great signs that its probably time to start a daily potty ritual. if you get excited and enthused chances are that she will aswell, however dont get frustrated if her interest wanes and in a few months you are back to square one--this is just the way it can go sometimes! wish you luck.

With my 3 yr old daughter, I started putting her on the potty at 16 months before every bath every night and she'd go. With my son, 15 mos, he's sat on it a few times but hasn't gone yet. Just ease her into it, sing a song about it, make it fun.

Thanks for the advice mommies:). I also have a 15-month old and was wondering about the right time. I have recently started putting her on panties just to get her used to it and also did the pottie-thing every 20 minutes or so. She also pee, but refused to poo. However, when I take the panty off and want to put the diaper on, she SCREAMS her head off:). Good luck to you all. Sue from Cape Town

just answered this question a few minutes ago. i started my now 15 month daughter (my first also), at 8 and a half months, only because she started walking on thanksgiving. it's more of getting them used to the potty. we wear normal diapers to bed and at naps, but sit on the potty as soon as she gets up. if we'll be home all day, we do pull-ups and sit on potty for 2-3 minutes every 45 minutes. she refuses to poop on the potty, but really gets excited about peeing. she sits on the potty before and after meals and before a bath. some days she throws a fit, other days she's really into it. i don't plan on really buckling down and getting serious about it until next March and over summer 2011. i just don't want her to freak out when that time comes.
