I'm tired of hearing people say the vaccine is too new (also no offence but I've heard it a thousand times and the reason I'm tired of it follows...). The seasonal flu vaccine is new every year as it is modified to prevent the predicted prevelant strains of influenza for that year....and the H1N1 vaccine is the exact same...a influenza vaccine which is modified to prevent the H1N1 strain.

There have been over 13,000 deaths worldwide from H1N1--many people who have various underlying health issues but also many people who were young and healthy....there have been approximately 70 million H1N1 vaccinations administered worldwide with very few deaths...most of the adverse reactions that have occured have been allergic reactions (to the egg in the vaccine).

I've got three kids and the older two have gotten it. They are 4 and 12 yrs old. My 8 month old hasn't gotten it b/c I can't find anywhere to get it at. They gave it to the two older children at school. They didn't have any kind of reactions to it. I was worried at first about what to do and after researching it the best we could we decided to do it. They say the risk of getting the flu is way worse than the the risk of the vac. I wish that I could find somewhere to get it for my youngest.

My doctor is saying what alot of doctors over here are saying, The benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.......

And that's what you have to go by.  H1N1 causes severe respitory problems. Add asthma into the mix......not a good combination.  It's a catch 22, you'll feel horrible if you do get it and something happens and vice versa.  Hard decision.

My Daughter (She's 81/2 months) and I got both flu shots and we did just fine. I feel like most that the benefits outweigh the risks. She did really well with both shot and to be completely honest didn't even cry. I think you should take everyones advice and do your own research and make a decision on what you think is best for you and your family. Getting the shots was best for mine. Good luck.

I got the H1N1 shot my 2 1/2 year old and my 1 year old that was born 3 months premature. They didn't have any reactions and my youngest got the seasonal and the H1N1 flu shots at the same time.

My 8 months old actually got the Swine. My daughter got the nasal spray for the H1N1 and did fine. Even though the baby got it, I still had him vaccinated and he did fine. I do think it is worse to get the swine than the shot. My poor baby was miserable and is still recovering on top of teething.

My son got both seasonal and swine flu vaccines at 7 months and had no reactions at all and it's been over a month now. I wasn't willing to risk my baby possibly getting the swine flu. I am a teacher and surrounded by sick kids all day and he is in daycare a few days a week, so I can't keep him in a protective bubble. I am happy about getting the vaccines for him.

Nope, not here. My daughter actually survived swine flu when she was 7 months old. Finding out she had a fever of almost 105 scared me, but we made it through, minus a pound of weight just fine. Since she had swine flu already I don't plan on getting her a regular flu shot either.

The vaccine is different in many countries...different compositions. Something to keep in mind.

Well I have had to get the vaccine myself Both the swine flu and the normal one because I have asthma, I would never forgive myself if he did get it and got really sick, and likewise I would never forgive myself if i did get the vaccine for him and he had a bad reaction to it, so you can't win either way.....

What did his pediatrician recommend?  Seriously, school yourself on it, google it, that's how I got my peace of mind.

Leanne--you are exactly right, do what u think is right!

You have to remember though that the seasonal flu is generally only serious for the elderly...so even if u had it in the past u likely weren't that sick. With H1N1 it is affecting younger generations the worst...that's why the panic over it.

I'm not getting my son vaccinated. Nor are my boyfriend and myself getting the vaccine. I find it totally unnecessary.

I believe if you keep yourself healthy, wash your hands and keep away from those who are ill you should be fine. Common sense should be put into play whenever a flu season comes around..

I never get the regular flu shot and im fine, I barely get ill with the flu.. And if I do get sick it is just sniffles, a cough or a twenty four hour flu feeling and then im fine.

Sure people have died from h1n1, but don't forget that people die from the regular flu as well.. Most who have died from this virus have had underlying issues, and a lot of people have died from getting the vaccine. My son is healthy, im not going to put him in jeopardy with a vaccine that can actually kill you if you get it.

Either way if you think about it... Your damned if you do and your damned if you don't in this situation!

But that's my personal opinion, im in no way suggesting to anyone to not get it if they want to. Do what you think is right! :)

We haven't had our daughter vaccinated as we are still unsure, we dont know a whole lot about it but just worries us because they developed the vaccine and trialed it for what didn't seem a very long time and is now pushing everyone to get it.... From what i understand most deaths that have occured from the H1N1 have been people who have had other health issues. We are more worried about the long term effects of the vaccine as it hasn't been out long enough for people to say that it has no long term effects or that it wont cause problems later on ESPECIALLY in babies...

Yes, I got my 8mo both(seasonal and H1N1), no reactions. No offense but I'm sooo sick of hearing about it!!! I did a lot of research and I think it's much more dangerous NOT to have him vaccinated. There have been too many infant deaths related to H1N1. Hope this helps.
