Teething or sick? Can anyone relate??

My son has had the same thing. I took him to the doctor twice and was told it was just a virus after being given an antibiotic. Then when the fever started I called the ER thinking something was very wrong but the on call pediatrician told me that the possibility of it being yet another virus was very likely since this is the cold and flu season. Hang in there and use Baby saline solution solution every 6 hours for several days. This truly does help. I personally like it better than medicine all together.

Everytime my son pushes out a tooth he gets sick. This time his two tops teeth are coming through at the same time, and he has a wicked cough and runny runny nose. He had a bad fever Saturday but that has since gone away. The doctors at Sick Kids said there is not meds to help him so we have to wait it out. He seems to be getting better as the teeth get closer to the surface, but he still eats very very little compared to normal and still is very clingy. Don't know if this helps, but this has happened with all his teeth. Hope you son gets better soon!

Hard to say.....my daughter had a runny nose and cough with her first 2 teeth. Some get diarrhea, some get rashes, it all depends, I don't think you can really pinpoint it.

I would say sick for sure. There is little research to support that diarrheor is a symptom of teething. Good luck with you poor little man.

A little irritation from teething is to be expected, sore gums and even sinuses, more drooling can cause a few runny diapers, but that sounds like "sick" to me. Too much going on for it to just be teething. Antibiotics usually cause stomach upset (diarrhea and stomach aches) so that might explain him turning away from his food. I never feel like eating when I'm on antibiotics either. Get some good rash cream and good luck. BTW, it'll take at least 3 days of antibiotic to see any improvement in the original symptoms, possibly 5-7 days. If its been a week already, I'd call the doc again.

My son had terrible nappy rash before his bottom teeth came and a few yukkie nappies but never as bad as when the next teeth came. he has been sick before and the cough stayed for months.

My daughter was on antibiotics for an ear infection recently & ended up with bad diaper rash. The doctor said that the rash had the look of a yeast infection, most likely caused by the antibiotics, so he prescribed some Nystatin to clear it up. Keep an eye on the rash and talk to your doctor if it doesn't seem to go away using regular diaper rash cream.
